if she could,  she would will him to forget her:   to forget the intricate curves exposed beneath his feverish touch,  to forget the tilt of her smile brushed by the golden glow of sunrise,  to forget the words he coaxed out of her half parted lips split from divine heaven.  the warmth which he brings her,  settling into the centre of her chest and spreading outward like a disease is something she dislikes.  or,   she obligates herself to think so.   innately,   the dubious and perhaps deleterious behaviour she often possessed struck an intense self - dislike,  blooming within her like a rotten rose.   he looks at her with such wholeness,   with a purity in his gaze that spoke in velvet tongues telling tales of adoration and her brain acts with inability to process it in a normal manner.   so here they lay,  a tangle of limbs and a mess of rushing heartbeats and he speaks with such strongly held conviction that if she just let the bricked wall around her chest fall for a moment,   she could believe the words @ltomahas¡ whispers into the crown of her head. Â
there is an immediate reaction in the way her frame tenses in his arms,  he cages her into his grasp and suddenly,  she feels like sheâs suffocating on the thickness of the air which seeps into her lungs.   she is reactionary;  unable to hide the emotions which course so violently through her veins.  itâs written in her expression,  in her body language,  in the way she immediately pulls away from his grasp and is left with the coldness of the sheets wrapped around bared frame.    â  neil,  please donât.  â     sheâs not one to beg nor plead   ( effortless in getting her way without such necessity )   but she will now.  he is too good,  too kind,  too gracious,  too tolerable.   and if she allowed for these sentiments to build within him,  it would become too real.   thereâs something bleak about the way her eyes glaze over with equal parts yearning and sorrow.  but all carmen knew was tragedy.  and she couldnât let him know the same.Â
her gaze wavers momentarily,  drifting out the window before returning back to him.     â   donât ruin this.  we have a good thing going on here.  itâs fun and thatâs it.  donât make it into something it isnât,  alright?  â     this unholy moment filled with tension,  she sits at the anchor of the hallowed place shared between their desperate bodies and the words that slip so easily from her raw lips are pained;  tinged with intonation of lies.  itâs more than what she makes it to be but thereâs inability on her part to accept the deeper held bond which forged a fire in the pit of her stomach.
loving  carmen  felt  like  bleeding  out,    a  slow  and  painful  descent   that  he  wouldn't  trade  for  anything.    she'd  dealt  the  mortal  wound  some  karaoke  night  or  mimosa  sunrise,    a  bright  smile  stitching  her  name  into  his  heart.    his  condition  had  been  stable  while  she  kept  him  at  arm's  length,    but  that  shifted  like  an  electric  current  the  moment  she  offered  him  more.    he'd  been  unraveling   since  the  first  time  he  tasted  her  lips  and  now  he  was  in  critical  condition.    the  feel  of  her  skin  beneath  his  fingertips,    the  lullabye  of  her  breathing,    it  was  better  than  any  picture  he  could  have  painted  with  his  imagination.    then  suddenly  his  chest  was  cracking  open,    exposing  his  heart  in  a  way  he  promised  himself  he  wouldn't  since  she'd  first  turned  her  back  on  his  confession.    it  was  a  mistake  then,    to  say  anything,    and  the  recoil  response  he  gets  now  is  like  history  repeating.  Â
it's  between  the  space  of  just  a  few  heartbeats  that  his  embrace  breaks  and  a  chill  floods  the  chasm  created  between  their  sweat  slicked  skin.    he  was  a  fucking  idiot.    he  leans  back  and  brings  a  hand  up  to  scrub  over  his  face,    listening  to  her  plea  with  his  eyes  on  the  ceiling.    better  off  focused  there  than  meeting  the  flat  expression  he  knew  she'd  be  wearing  for  him  now.    it  wasn't  like  he  didn't  know,    she  didn't  want  to  hear  this  shit  from  him,    but  he  insisted  on  leading  himself  to  the  gallows  anyway.    the  explanation  she  offers  is  even  worse,    just  twisting  the  knife  again  and  again.    as  if  somehow  this  reality  with  her  could  be  casual  for  him?      did  she  just  selectively  forget  the  part  where  he'd  told  her  the  depth  of  his  feelings,    or  was  it  just  that  she  never  believed  him  in  the  first  place?      either  way  he  could  feel  the  rope  tightening  around  his  neck.  Â
â  â  don't  ruin  this,  â    he  echoes  in  a  hollow  voice,    â  it's  fun...  that's  it.  â    a  difficult  sentiment  to  reconcile  since  he  felt  like  this  was  ruining  him.    he  does  let  his  gaze  turn  back  to  her  then,    doing  nothing  to  hide  the  injury  she'd  inflicted,    wanting  her  to  see,    hoping  she  would  see.      â  do  you  really  think  this  is  the  same  for  both  of  us?  â    it's  a  question  he  shouldn't  ask,    only  inviting  another  harsh  blow,    but  he's  had  enough  silence.    â  it's  as  good  as  it  is  because  we  care  about  each  other.    do  you  really  think  us  hooking  up  somehow  changed  the  way  i  feel  about  you?  â    he  leans  up  on  an  elbow,    angling  toward  her,    but  stops  himself  from  reaching  out.        â  because  i  have  to  tell  you,    it  hasn't.  â  he  loved  her  more  with  every  laugh,    every  kiss,    it  was  like  an  avalanche;  beautiful,  dangerous,  and  consuming.    â  you  deserve  so  much  more  than  you  believe.â
