The city has jurisdiction over four counties, namely, Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Yongsheng County, Huaping County, and Ninglang Yi Autonomous County, with the total area of 20,600 square kilometres and total population of 1.28 million. There are 22 ethnic minority groups accounting for 56.79% of the total population, including Naxi, Yi, Lisu, Bai, Pumi and so on. The forest coverage rate amounts to 70%, with very good air quality marked Level-I. The highest point reaches 5,596 metres, and the lowest is 1,015 metres above the sea level. Such altitude difference leads to abundant tourism resources as well as pleasant climate in this tourism city, with the average temperature of 12-19 degree Celsius all year round. Tourism scenic spots total 104, represented by “two mountains, one city, one lake, one river, one culture and one custom”.
