Ubuntu 14.04 comes redistributed with TexLive 2013. In order to upgrade to a newer version you can download and install the vanilla TexLive, however you will then lack the integration into apt which will result that Ubuntu tries to install TexLive 2013 everytime a package depends on texlive or any other tex package.

Luckily, a nice guy shared his script to download and install TexLive 2014…

Caching - Accelerate your maven builds on Travis-CI.org

Building large maven projects takes its time. Locally, you have your ~/.m2 folder which contains the downloaded artifacts to be used in subsequent builds to not have to download the internet over and over again. A long time using Travis-CI.org there was no way to cache any data.

SSH Fingerprint for Travis-CI.org

Using Travis-CI.org gives the ability to include nice badges into your README.md on GitHub in order to show that the build is running smoothly (or failing). However, if you want to upload build artifacts to your own server using SSH you will end up with your build erroring because it stalls since it is asking for user input.

Open JDK8 is the reference implementation for Oracle JDK8, thus they do not really differ anymore. However there are some pitfalls where OpenJDK does not offer the implementation that is needed. This is true for JavaFX and the Spring Tool Suite.

Build standalone jar with Eclipse dependencies with Maven

As I already wrote in an earlier blog post, I changed the build tool of our project from Ant to Maven/Tycho. However, we have a companion project, which just aims to provide Dresden OCL as simple jar for those outside the Eclipse ecosystem, providing a standalone version.
