hi again! i sent an ask about your american girl art but have figured it out myself that the girl in glasses holding the green book is Melody. i was unfamiliar with her school outfit and hadn't seen her with glasses before! (she was after my time lol and i have mostly kept up just with doll releases to see who the new characters were without diving any deeper) thanks again for sharing such a lovely piece of art!

No worries! I am also an older fan and only after revisiting AG for these drawings did I deep dive a little more with the newer dolls. I haven't read a lot of the newer girls' stories so I only know the broad strokes and adding glasses to Melody does make it a little confusing.

They made a bunch of live actions films like a decade ago mostly for their Girl of the Year characters but there was a Melody film and I saw that they had the actress playing Melody wear glasses. Genuinely a missed opportunity to sell 60s style glasses for her because I LOVE the idea that she has them but just wears them sometimes. It's the most "head canon" thing I put in these AG drawings (if calling the film version a head canon because she literally seems to wear them in most of the screenshots and promotional photos I've seen) but I stand by that there's not enough glasses and I like her wearing glasses as an homage to film Melody.

I've been lucky enough to get some paid work that I can't share yet so I haven't posted art in a while but I had to do something for the American Girl 40th anniversary. I have been reading these books since I was six years old and these girls have a huge place in my heart. All 20 historic girls in one place!

Oh you better believe in the anime they have color photos

Personally I headcanon that Konoha being a ninja village has a very ingrained "don't ask questions don't talk about things openly" since that seems like something a village of ninjas would be conditioned to do. Hence why Sasuke's whole family is killed and Sakura and Naruto barely knew about it at the start of the series. It was probably rumors and heavily frowned on as a subject of open discussion. So the kids just do not hear anything their parents talk about. And that Nart's whole birth was there if you looked close enough but not openly discussed so barely anyone has put two-and-two together unless they knew Minato personally. Also I think it's canon that barely anyone knew about what Kushina was but at the same time she was under way higher control so she wasn't seen by many people so barely anyone would remember her. The canon vs the anime's canon does get messy so it's sometimes hard to figure out the true Kishimoto Vision.

In the manga I headcanon they do not have color film yet so this all makes it easier for Nart to never have seen a photo of his hair color.
