The back of a lightweight cardi. The design specifies hem to armhole at 9" for large, 15" for XL. I think I want something between but can't decide: 12? 13?
This collar sort of works as designed and looks kind of okay. Feels overwhelming. Gonna rip back and pick up & knit a crew neck/ mock turtleneck.
Picked up & knit, then i-cord bind off. This version will get some use.
yesterday i was at the woodworking store getting a knife sharpener because i've been really into whittling hair sticks out of hardwoods which dulls your blades like mad. and the lady who was helping me said "oh yeah i know the feeling of jumping into a project that turns out more complex, that's how i feel about my cable knit right now"
which in turn activated my sleeper autist, and we ended up talking about fiber arts, where i learned that this woman is part of the local lacemaker's guild and uses her woodworking experience to carve lace bobbins on the lathe. she then gave me the email address of the woman who runs it, because their group has no social media and only meets when the lead lady says 'everyone come to my house.'
while all of this was going on, another woman walks up. her partner was shopping for wood repair stuff and she heard us talking about fiber- she's a spinner who does historical reenactments nearby. period accurate, processes the wool herself. of course i ask her if they need volunteers and she gives me her contact info
long story short. autism is everywhere you look and you have to be okay with chatting with strangers. i don't remember where this post was going

KICK THE CAN!
Let’s play the biggest game of kick the can on the internet.
To kick the can, reblog it. I wanna see how long this can go on for.
the oldest reblogs for this post that i can find are from january 2nd of 2013. this can has been getting kicked around tumblr for almost 13½ years now
And yet somehow this is my first time kicking it!
Happy Pride Month!

The knit version of the viral TikTok design – the Ant scarf! Make your own looong Ant scarf using this knit pattern! Perfect DIY project for
Mosiac bag im blocking, im gonna add a fabric lining to it as well yippee!
Meet Butterscotch! I splurged on some nice mohair and just happened to have an old ball of yarn that fit PERFECTLY colour wise, so I made a very fancy lad. He is naked for now, but I'm working on his outfit! I have enough yarn to make a smaller bear, so after this lad has his outfit done I'll probably make a smaller fella!
that expression!!

A little knitting update 🧶
I’d say I’m probably an intermediate knitter, but I’ve never really made a proper wearable before.
So I decided to knit a vest for my Teddy Bear 🧸🤭 using a knitting pattern from a book I bought in Japan.
I definitely improvised parts of it — especially the neckline! 😹
But somehow it all worked out, and I’m quite pleased with the result 🫶🍀

finished a shawl, blocked the shawl, took pictures of the shawl
very, very pleased with this one. it's soft and drapes amazingly, the gradient flows like i was picturing in my head and i was able to make the shawl i wanted
pattern is Knitting By the Pool by Romi Hill. great pattern, not so complicated i couldn't watch something while knitting while being just complicated enough to make sure my brain stayed engaged. also an excellent pattern for a gradient. i could see making this pattern again in another gradient, possibly for gifting purposes
yarn is a handspun 2 ply laceweight 100% BFL gradient from Hilltop Cloud's Never Ending Gradient Club. i used around 90 grams for the shaw, and i extended the last section by 8 rows. the yarn is from the beginning of my study of consistency in spinning lace and gradients so i can see the areas i was looking to improve at the time and how i would handle them now. still i'm very happy with how the yarn knit up
now to figure out what my next knitting project will be
It's spring now which means the kids in my city have started drawing hopscotches on the sidewalk and as a rule I do every hopscotch I see because 1. Use it or lose it (ability to scotch) and 2. If a child got down on the hardscrabble streets of Boston Massachusetts to draw a scotch the least I can do is use it, but in doing the hopscotches, I've learned that about 50% of them are the typical 8-10 step scotch and the other 50% are. Somewhat avant-garde. And of course I'm not vetting the entire scotch before I start it so sometimes it's like haha 8 steps woo! Childlike whimsy! And sometimes they're 20 steps or 30 or they've got a section with three squares instead of two where you have to do a little Charleston to step on all three, or, memorably, FORTY one foot squares. A full BLOCK of jumping on one foot but I'm no quitter so once I've started Jigsaw Junior's fuckin hopscotch gauntlet I'm there til the end just a daily pot smoker in her thirties jumping kasa-obake style through an affluent suburb while some little proto-kennedy watches from his bedroom window rubbing his sadistic little third grade hands together and cackling. It's amazing. I love spring.
its so scary to put yourself out there but a SINGLE message saying "hi i loved what you made it touched me in some way" makes it all worth it 10000%
daily reminder that if you like something someone made tell! them! tell them tell them tell them TELL THEM

I think my coworkers LIKE me?? which is fuckin crazy imo
so yesterday one of my coworkers, a manager who used to be in my department, stopped by my office and they said to me "are you the library murmur?" and I said, "what." and they basically repeated the question and, thru my office door and past them I caught the eye of someone new to the library and they ALSO had no idea what the manager meant.
so I said, "I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about" and the manager made an excited face and said "hold on!!" and ran away to the kitchen
they came back with fun little zines someone had made and posted anonymously! they were full of library jokes and other neat and weird stuff.
and the new person read them as well and we all chatted about them for a little bit about who we suspected posted them, and then manager left and we got back to work, such as it is when its half an hour from closing
and then literally five minutes later another coworker stops and knocks on my doorframe and says, hey are you the library murmur??
ANTS IN A ROW RAGLAN IS DONE!! still need to block it tho
