These episodes had me shedding TEARS!
The parallels of Savage and Maul to Scorn and Icarus and the way both Maul and Icarus say βbrotherβ when they die is tragically beautiful. Loss is never easy to overcome, especially when itβs your own flesh and blood; and for Nightbrothers, brotherhood is such a sacred thing to them, since all they have is essentially their marital training and each other.
You can not only hear Maul let out a shuddering gasp, but you can clearly see that losing Scorn reopened the wounds of losing Savage to Sidious. I had a feeling Scorn was gonna die, but I didnβt want to be right. And poor Icarus, man! I think the irony of his name is that instead of him flying too close to the sun, itβs his brother who pays the ultimate price.
Iβm glad Rook gave him a brief moment of comfort. If I were with these guys, Iβd give him the BIGGEST hug humanly possible.
WE GOT TO SEE BOTH MAUL AND SAVAGE AS KIDS MAN! WHERE WAS FERAL?!! OMG!
"Stop there! What have you done to my brother? Answer me, you monster!β
Youβll notice Savage said that exact line towards Maul when he was being stalked in those tunnels on Lotho Minor, mistaking Maul as nothing but a feral animal.
But you know who is an animal? SIDIOUS.
Oh, the RAGE I had towards that man was UNREAL. This animal groomed a scared, frightened Maul, abused the heck out of him, turning him into the vengeful creature we know today. Of all of the apprentices Sidious has had, Maul has suffered more than all of them. Because he had no choice! He never asked to be ripped away from his family, but he did what he had to do to survive. Andy unfortunately, that has led him down countless roads of suffering.
Seeing Savage begging Maul not to go with Sidious, makes him being so protective of Feral in the Clone Wars makes this hurt even more! The Sith and their machinations have RUINED this family: Maul, Savage, Feral, and Talzin.
Seeing Maul CRYING and seeing his younger self apologizing to himself was like being stabbed in the gut man.
Maul reassuring his younger reflection and promising that scared, abused boy, and ultimately HIMSELF, that he wonβt let Sidious do this to anyone else makes you so sympathetic for this man.
Iβve never had PTSD before, nor have I suffered from traumatic upbringings, but I think these episodes really flesh out that people like Sidious who use, groom, abuse, and discard exist and are running a lot of the world. Itβs scary to think about, but people like that do exist. We reap what we sow, and people like Sidious may get away with their atrocities for a time, but theyβll get whatβs coming to them.
These were the best episodes for me personally, weβve got one more week of Maul: Shadow Lord left, so weβll see what happens. But these episodes made me very emotional. I need to recover.
