When I was a kid I laughed at this, but now as an adult who works in the public, I can assure you people are exactly like this.

It’s probably more of an ant joke because ants do that in real life as well

They can’t go over the leaf??

ants walk in a line based on scent: the leader puts a scent every few steps so the others know where to go. If the scent disappears they freak out and clump up. A leaf would probably obstruct the scent so they wouldn’t know to go around it, as ants are actually completely blind. The same thing happens if you drag your finger across a gap in a line of ants: they’ll all freak out.
