☆ fyi this is an au where Jolyne lives with Jotaro in morioh + Rohan and Jotaro are already in a relationship and Rohan lives with them
Rohan found himself following Jotaro through the receding darkness of the early morning. Rohan would usually never be awake at a time like this when the sky turned freshly dull blue, his sleep was too precious but curiosity found him.
Now here he was, sitting on the rocky beach next to a man who had something deep weighing on his mind. It's quiet, the words needing to be spoken not yet being able to be formed. So they sit there like that for a minute or two.
"Is it about your past?" Rohan finally cut through the silence.
"What?" The older man turns toward Rohan, a saddening look of longing settled in his eyes.
"It's hard to ignore, you know. Especially when you've come out here at this ungodly hour. I couldn't conjure any other reason as to why than your past." He almost sounded like he was annoyed with how he was complaining.
... "You didn't have to follow, I thought you were asleep.."
"Light sleeper" Rohan simply puffed out.
Jotaro let out a hum in reply. He pulled his knees closer to the rest of his body as he let another beat of silence pass by. Subtly he chewed on the inside of his cheeks but ever the observant, Rohan knew.
"It's not like I'll push you. I've asked Josuke and the others about it before, I was curious, you can't blame me. But all I got told was how'd you tense up when asked about it."
Silence fell yet again, Rohan let out a soft sigh.
"I care a lot about you if you haven't realized. That's why I hope you'll consult in me." Sincereness was rare, he let the worry show on his face as he looked over to Jotaro.
Jotaro chose to stare off into the horizon before opening his mouth again. "I feel.. A lot of guilt. Not just for what happened in those fifty days I spent traveling to Egypt but for the positions I've had to put other people in.." He admitted though letting out his feelings was, not what he was used to to say the least. The words tasted foreign on his tongue as he spoke them.
"I never expected having to feel the guilt sink into me as I walked back into school like it was just a fever dream. For a long time after that it was difficult to come to terms with everything.."
Rohan didn't falter in his listening, he let the other mans expressions flow free.
"And I still feel guilty for having left Jolyne with her mother—"
"However Jolyne is with you now." Rohan interjected.
Jotaro released a small gust of air through his nose "Yes. If you had let me get there." He glared towards Rohan which was quickly received with a soft sorry.
"And above all else..." Painful memories began replaying in the back of his mind, once an aching dull felt as if it was burning his face. His words faltered before he replaced it with a different sentence "Having to tell Noriaki's parents their son is dead." His voice shook recalling that last part, something he never really got past.
The soft waves cascaded down the fine grains of sand and pushed against the hard clumps of rocks. Off in the distant horizon a seagull screeched as it mingled with others of its kind.
The atmosphere could have been almost peaceful if it wasn't for the intense sorrow parasitically burrowing its way into every happy memory made.
Rohan scooted closer to Jotaro, carefully resting his head onto the taller man's shoulder. Pleasantly this action was received by a warm hand circling Rohan's hip.
"I fear also that the things I do are because I lost Noriaki.. On the off chance that's true.. Then there's a chance I could lose you, that scares me."
"I don't believe that's the truth." Rohan quickly rebutted "Maybe it's a selfish answer but at least I don't feel like you're per-say treating me like a replacement. From what I've heard of your short stories of him he seems so absurdly different from me." He puffed as if he took offense in being compared to someone so nice
Jotaro let out a thoughtful hum "We should head back home before Jolyne wakes up" he states as if nothing had happened.
"Only if I get a kiss for waking me up so early"
"Cheeky."
