“you’re ridiculous, you do know that, right?” jeno asked, pouring a gin and tonic while donghyuck paused walking the floor for a glass of lukewarm tap water. “jaemin’s fine.”

“he’s fine to you, because he’d have to be a monster to be anything else.”

jeno rolled his eyes. “talk to him, donghyuck, i don’t know. find common ground so that i don’t have to match every shift with you to avoid the fallout if you’re put together.”

he used to think it was like jackpot for a person like him, the ‘anti aging curse’. everyone around him had met their soulmates and were aging normally. the one who had the biggest gap between their real age and body was mark who had met renjun when they were both 22.

jeno meets donghyuck when he is 26 in the body of an 18 year old. they meet at the bar jeno was working in then and donghyuck had tipped jeno so generously that jeno had bought himself korean beef that day.

donghyuck became a regular and jeno came to look forward to his nightshifts.

7 months later mark and renjun know about the weekly regular that has jeno wrapped around his finger. yes, its that serious.

he’s cleaning up the counter after work one day when donghyuck wraps his arms around his waist, wrapping him up in a back hug and placing the sweetest kiss against his pulse. the moment is broken when his boss calls out to him and he sees panic in donghyucks eyes.

‘im so sorry i thought you were someone else’

jeno brushes it off as a joke. he goes home and for the first time, searches how a soulmates first kiss is supposed to feel. he finds out tons of things he wasn’t previously aware of.

it works even if it isnt on the lips.

all of the descriptions make sense.

donghyuck is 26 years old, in a 26 year old body.

the next time jeno sees donghyuck its with a group of people, his friends jeno assumes. his laughs feel like sunshine on a rainy day and jeno wonders how he had never realised that donghyuck was his soulmate.

jeno takes the 5 drinks to their table and is about to leave when donghyuck calls him.

‘jen! a gift,’ he says and passes jeno an envelope that looks a tad bit too fancy for him to be touching right now, but he takes it anyway. ‘i really hope you will be there, you’re like my only tolerable drinking partner.’

he opens the envelope and all the questions he never asked are answered.

‘this is him by the way, isnt he a catch?’ donghyuck is nuzzling into the boy sat next to him. and oh he’s beautiful, not more than donghyuck but he is. ‘jaem, thats jeno. the drinking partner i told you about,’

jaemin gives him the most sincere smile and he returns it.

that day he goes home and cries for a love he never gained and yet had lost.

a month later he attends the most beautiful wedding. donghyuck laughs when he sees him, pats him on the back and says ‘jenjen you seem older, did you finally bump into your soulmate?’

and jeno just hugs donghyuck, one last time before he moved away to america to start his new and married life.

“Oh, I guess I have a thing for being watched then.” Regulus rolls his eyes, muttering out the words sarcastically. “Matches your whole thing for doing the watching, right?”

“I don’t think it counts as just your business if you’re getting yourself off on top of Barty’s lap for the entire room to see.”

James splutters, his drink threatening to spill all over his hand. “You can’t just say that!”

“Can’t just say what?”

“You know what. It makes me seem like some depraved, sad asshole?”

“Weren’t you watching?”
