cw pure fluff again!! but this is a bit rushed im sorry ): no use of y/n or body descriptions.
βI know itβs scary but if he sees you with me maybe he will start doing somethingβΒ
He didnβt know but you wanted Steve as more than a friend. So, when he decides to act as your date to make your βcrushβ jealous. You know thatβs what he wants, for you to be happy but not with him.
βI donβt know, I think itβs a bad idea, Steveβ
βNo, no. Honey, that's why we are chaperons tonight if he sees you have the best time of your life. He is going to get jealous, trust me I knowβ
"Wow, I forgot about your huge ego"
You have been hiding your crush on Steve for so long, it was just a matter of time for him to have a suspicion on why you never talked about your love life. So when he asked who your crush was⦠The only name you were able to spit out was Jonathan.
And there is nothing wrong with Byers. He is sweet, he is a very talented photographer but there are two problems with it: one, he is Nancyβs secret boyfriend and two, you like Steve.
βI donβt get it, I thought you didnβt like himβ you whine, as Steve pushes you towards the door. βAre you trying to get Nancy back?β
βWhat? No! Nance and I didn't work. Iβm over that you knowβ
And maybe Steve has been pushing too hard, trying to set you up with someone you donβt even like because you havenβt been honest with him. He finally leaves you alone with Jonathan, you stand up against him awkwardly as he takes pictures of the kids.
βSoβ¦ Do you remember I told you and Nancy about this whole Steve situation?β
βMhmm, did he finally ask?β
βYeah, he didβ
βAndβ¦?β He looks at you, as you nervously play with the fabric of your dress. You look over at Steve, who talks to Max, Lucas, Mike, and El. Watching Dustin dance with Nancy.
βI said I liked youβ
The flash of his camera goes on with a loud click, the kids in front of them start protesting but Jonathan is too confused to care about them.
βYou said you liked me?β
βYes?β
βWhatβs wrong with you!β he asks. He is a bit irritated but he gets it. Jonathan and Nancy know how much you like Steve and how scary it is to confess your feelings.
βI fucked up, I'm sorry! I didnβt know what to say but Iβm going to fix it I promiseβ
βYou better fix it. If Nancy hears about this, she is going to give you a two-hour pep talk againβ
βI know, I knowβ you shake your head, hugging yourself as you look at your shoes. βI just fear he is going to reject me and I-β
βWho is going to reject you?β
Steveβs voice makes you flinch. You turn around on your heels to glance at him, his brows knit together in a frown.
βI thought you liked himβ he points at Jonathan as he walks away with his thumbs up, wishing you luck.
βI-β Fear takes over your body, you bite your lip when you are uneasy and Steve knows you are scared. You start to walk away towards the door and he runs behind you.
βDid you lie to me?β he asks, stopping you from opening the doors of the gym. You shake your head, noticing how impatient he is getting. In his eyes you see a mix of sadness and anger, is he disappointed?Β
βIt's complicated!β
βThen talk to me!β
You close your eyes, taking a deep breath. You did lie to him, but you were trying to protect him. To protect the friendship.
βWe canβt talk about this here, we should waitβ
βNo! Go grab your coat, Iβll meet you outsideβΒ
When enough time passes, you meet Steve outside the gym. You stand in front of him, his big shiny eyes looking down at you. A breeze of cold air disturbs the night, and Steveβs hair moves like waves as his nose gets red from the cold weather.
βAre you going to tell me?β
βNo, Iβll just wait until one of us turns into a popsicleβ
He bites back a laugh, leaning his head to the side. You know he is getting impatient, he hates the lies and the games.
βRight. I don't know whatβs going to happen if I tell youβ You look at him through your eyelashes. He offers you an apologetic smile.
βThereβs only one way to know" he shrugs "You tell me everything and now I know you are lying because you are making weird jokes and biting your bottom lip. I think you forgot I know you better than anyone elseβ
And he is right because he has been with you for a long time now. He is the one who always stands by your side. The one that holds the door for you. The one that you can trust.
Thatβs why you canβt risk it. You canβt lose him. But you also canβt lie to him because you know that will only make things worse.
βI donβt like Jonathan, Iβm sorry I lied to you I know you hate thatβ You shake your head, playing with your fingers and fighting back the anxiety that sits right in your belly. βI like you. I like you more than a friend, and every single time I talked about how amazing you are I meant it. You are just perfect to me and I like you, so muchβΒ
He nods, trying to process your words. Your confession falls on him like a bucket of cold water. He freezes for a bit.
Tears are threatening to roll down your cheeks as Steve walks away from you.Β
You ruined it.Β
You ruined your friendship.
You ruined one of the happiest nights for him and the kids.
You have ruined everything you-
βOoow!β you scream in surprise as a ball of snow hits your arm βWhat was that for?β You turn to look at Steve, who squats down to take more snow in his hands. His gloves help him from the snow into a ball effortlessly. βOuch! Stop! What are you doing?β You flinch when another ball hits you, the movement making your tears roll down your cheeks.
βYou like me!β Steve laughs, his smile is bright and you are so confused about his reaction. One second he was angry and nowβ¦ he looks like a child opening gifts on Christmas morning. βYou made me think you liked Jonathan and made me feel so jealous because I like you too!βΒ
Another snowball hits your body again, and you shake your head and squat down to take some snow into your hands.
βYou like me too? Thatβs why you are throwing snow at me?βΒ
You throw a ball at Steve, this time it hits the top of his head making him fall on his back.
βOh fuck! Are you alright?βΒ
You run towards him, looking down as he keeps smiling on the floor. He is going to be the death of you.
βHelp me!β he screams, reaching out for you with his hand. You offer a hand to help him up, but as he grabs your arm, he pulls you down, making you fall on his chest.
βWhatβs wrong with you?β you ask, struggling to keep your hair out of your face.
βWhy do you ask?β his mouth blows air at your face, making the strands of loose hair fall to the sides instead of sticking to your skin.
βI thought you were upsetβ
βI was, thatβs why I throw snow at youβ
βWere you jealous?β
βI was very jealous, Honey. I mean it, I like you.β
He wraps his arm around your waist, keeping you close to him. You are still both on the snow, his face is so close to yours and his warm breath hits your cheeks.
βI like you too, I'm sorry I lied to you. I was scared to tell you, I don't want anything to change, you mean a lot to meβ you confess, wearing your heart on your sleeve and ready for him to take it.
βI know, I was scared too. I thought if you were with him this feeling in my chest would go away but it only got worse. You mean a lot to me too and I was so jealous because I couldn't bear the fact of another man holding your hand or getting you so close.. Like thisβ
He rubs his nose against yours, making you melt over him.
βDo you think this is going to work?β you ask.
He takes a deep breath and a couple of seconds to think about it. He is also scared, his past relationships sucked and he knew damn well it was his fault. But with you is different, every new feeling he gets when he is with you is exciting.
βI do because you make me crazyβ
βYou make me crazy tooβ
You close the gap between you, pressing your lips against his. Itβs a short kiss, but the start of many. Filled with all the pining and love you've been feeling for a while. His lips feel so good against yours. You both giggle looking at yourselves, this night was full of surprises.
βFinally!β Dustin says, clapping as he gets closer to you to help you get up.Β
βYou knew?β
βThereβs a reason why we call you mom and dad, duh!β

MASTERLIST
Big thank you to @keeryswiftie for talking through the medical aspects of this and helping me, quite literally birth the idea for this fic. Youβre the best. β€οΈ
Steve Harrington had loved kids for as long as he could remember.
Apparently, it had started when he was a toddler. He had always seemed to be drawn to the younger siblings of friendsβcomforting them and entertaining them. He had no memory of this, but he did remember a fateful fall season when he met a group of rowdy preteens that ended up changing his life for the better.
After meeting Dustin Henderson, it was a natural progression of meeting his other friends after he was constantly put in the position of having to watch the younger kids. Only 18 at the time, he was supposed to be the responsible adult of the group. There was also an entire few years dealing with fighting monsters from another dimension, but that was a story for another time.
At the time, Steve had pretty much been an asshole. He was rebelling against parents who paid little attention to him and were hardly aroundβdoing things that heβd hoped make them careβbut probably in the worst of ways. It took him a long time to realize he deserved better than the way they treated him. A lot of that realization came from finding friends that loved him like family. Though he had no siblings of his own, the group of six kids filled that lonely space. Part of the time they felt like younger siblings, the other part they felt like his own kids. It was in those early years that he just knew he wanted to have a big family of his own one day.
In the meantime, Steve had done something heβd never thought heβd doβheβd applied to nursing school.
At the beginning of his education, he didnβt know what exactly he wanted to do, but he knew he wanted to work with kids.
Thatβs how heβd ended up here, in the Labor and Delivery wing at Hawkins hospital, back in his hometown.
His daysβand sometimes nightsβwere filled with beeping monitors, baby cries and strong mothers. Even though childbirth had to be one of the hardest things in life, he couldnβt help but love his work. He was constantly in awe of the brand new little lives and how tough these women were, going through so much to bring their baby into the world.
Most of his work involved assisting OBGYNβs, keeping check on both mother and babyβs vitals, administering medicine and doing vaginal checks, but a lot of what he and the fellow nurses in the department did tended to fall on the emotional side of things. Heβd found being calm, patient and attentive to the birthing mother helped things so much, especially in a crisis.
Apparently, he was so good at his job that heβd become somewhat famous with the mothersβwhich his coworkers liked to tease him about. Some had even requested him as a nurse after hearing about him from a friendβs or family memberβs experience.
He couldnβt count the amount of times heβd received sweet notes and gifts of thanks from past patients, something that always made him smile. It flattered him to know that heβd made such an impression on them, enough that theyβd think of him afterwards. After all, it was his mindset that the mother should have a positive birthing experience with as much support as possibleβwhich extended past the husband or father and to the nursing staff as well, in his opinion.
They always said it takes a village to raise a child. In a way, it takes one to birth one as well. He always made sure that the mothers he aided would have as much support as they needed.
While it was nice to be appreciated, his favorite part of the job had to be the post birth tasks where he got to hold the baby. Obviously it included cleaning the baby, weighing it, swaddling it and other things, but he was always mesmerized by the tiny life in his arms, one heβd watched coming into the world. Heβd been at this job for two years now and it had yet to get old.
Usually, it was the babies that he remembered the most, over the mothers, as they all tended to blur together after awhile.
But one day, one mother stood out starkly to him, one that ended up changing his life.
β’
βOkay Y/N, youβve made it this far. You can do this. Itβs going to be hard, but youβre in the final stretch. Soon it will be over.β
Soon it will be over.
Your head fell back against the pillow as you looked around the bleak, empty hospital room with no one else in it.
The pep talk you were previously trying to give yourself wasnβt doing much to calm your apprehension. Things were starting to feel real and you didnβt have the time nor the strength to process all the emotions you were currently feeling.
βGet it together,β you muttered to yourself, closing your eyes and taking a deep breath, βYouβve made it this far all alone, you can do this too.β
βIβm sorry, did you say something?β
Your eyes popped open, embarrassed that you were overheard talking to yourself. You hadnβt heard anyone enter the room.
The nurse that had approached your bedside was different from the middle aged woman whoβd performed a vaginal check on you just an hour earlier.
This one was young, male and attractive.
His brown hair was on the longer side, curling outwards at the ends. His gaze cast downward as he looked through what you assumed to be your medical chart.
βNo, sorry, I didnβt hear you come in,β you said feebly, still feeling a bit embarrassed, βYouβre not the same nurse that was in here just an hour ago to check on me.β
βNight shift,β he explained.
βOh Iβm sorry, got caught up looking through your file,β the nurse apologized, setting the clipboard back on the end of hospital bed where it usually hung, βIβm Steve, Iβll be your nurse for the night.β
He went about checking the machines thatβs been monitoring your contractions, your heart beat and the babyβs before checking up on your IV.
βLast shift said youβre only a few centimeters dilated,β Steve said, finally looking back down at you.
βUnfortunately. It feels like Iβve been in here for days already.β
He smiled gently.
βIt does seem that way, doesnβt it? I know it sometimes takes a while, but I promise it will all be worth it.β
He pats your arm gently and you notice he has warm and kind brown eyes. His face and whatβs displayed of his neck is dotted with numerous moles and freckles, giving him an even more unique appearance. It makes him even more good looking, in your opinion.
A pair of glasses are folded and resting on the neckline of his scrubs; you figured theyβre reading glasses. His ID is clipped to the bottom of the scrub shirt, a small picture of him smiling on it along with the name Steve Harrington.
His gaze swept around the room before returning to your face, a questioning look in his eyes.
βHas your husbandβor boyfriendβstepped out?β he catches himself, knowing not every mother heβs encountered has been married, not wanting to offend his patient within the first few minutes of meeting her.
Trying to control the feeling of humiliation youβre feeling deep inside, you attempt to keep any sign of it off your face as the lie slips off your tongue as easy as butter.
βYes, he went to find something to eat.β
Steve nodded, doing one last check on yours and babyβs vitals.
βWell Miss Y/L/N-β
βY/N, please,β you corrected him.
He smiled, correcting himself.
βY/N.β
He has a kind smile, one that makes you feel incrementally better about being in a situation like this. You find yourself giving him a small smile back.
βIf you need anything, just call me,β he motioned to the call button for the nurse, before continuing, βI only have one other patient today and by the sounds of it, sheβs going to be delivering soon, so Iβll be back to check up on you in a little while.
You nodded your understanding, watching him exit back out into the hallway.
Turning on your side, you stare at the window that provides a view of the sunset. According to the clock, itβs just after 7 pm. Youβve been here since early afternoon.
Another wave of pain nears, squeezing your abdomen and causing your belly to harden as another contraction hits you. So far, they arenβt horrible and feel just a tad worse than the awful menstrual cramps youβve dealt with for years.
Closing your eyes, you try to distance your mind from the pain, as to not think of it.
The sounds of the other mother from down the hall fill your ears and you attempt to block that out too. The poor woman sounds like sheβs birthing a giraffe, not a baby. Squeezing your eyes shut, tears escape your closed eyes and fall down your cheeks.
Never in your entire life have you felt so scared or so utterly alone.
β’
Apparently, youβd managed to doze off at some point because you jerked awake to a rustling noise in your room.
The moans of the birthing mother have completely vanished and all you hear beyond your room are the typical sounds of a hospitalβbusy nurses, chatter and beeping machines.
βIβm sorry, I didnβt mean to wake you,β Steve apologized, βHow are you feeling?β
βApparently good enough to fall asleep,β you attempt to joke, causing him to laugh.
βWell according to last shift you were still in early stages of labor, but it should be picking up soon. You were 2 centimeters when you were last checked so itβs about time to see if youβve progressed any further.β
Just then, a blonde, female nurse walked in, introducing herself as Kelly. She stood towards the back wall and gave a friendly nod to Steve.
βDonβt worry, just protocol to have a βchaperoneβ if you will, for any male nurses doing pelvic exams,β Steve explained.
You mustβve shown wariness because he immediately jumped back in, rambling.
βIf youβre not comfortable with me performing the exam, then I can definitely have Kelly do it,β he offered.
You waved him off, shaking your head. You already felt so weary and you were hardly halfway through labor.
After a few uncomfortable minutes, the quick exam was over and Kelly had left to return to her own patients.
βLooks like youβre just about four centimeters. How are the contractions feeling?β Steve asked.
βPainful, but nothing I canβt handle,β you answered truthfully.
βWell when youβre ready for an epiduralβthat is if you choose to get oneβjust let me know and we can get the anesthesiologist in here. Do you need anything? Some ice chips maybe?β
βIce chips, please? If itβs not too much trouble.β
Truthfully, you didnβt really care for any, but craved the company instead.
βYou got it,β he grinned, βBe back shortly.β
It was hardly five minutes when he came back in with the styrofoam cup of ice chips and a plastic spoon.
βThank you,β you said, truly grateful as you reached for the cup.
You noticed him glance at his watch, then up at the clock on the wall in the room.
βSomewhere you need to be?β you partially joked.
βNo. Just wondering how long the fast food lines must be.β
You had a feeling where this was going and knew you couldnβt avoid the truth much longer. Itβd been nearly two hours since heβd last checked on you and you knew your lie was about to be exposed.
You preoccupied yourself by putting a small chunk of ice in your mouth, realizing your mouth was drier than youβd thoughtβthe cool liquid of the ice tasted amazing.
His question was quiet and somber, but you heard it well.
βThe fatherβs not coming, is he?β
You shook your head, refusing to meet his eyes.
You looked up when you felt the stiff mattress shift just a bit and noticed heβd sat down at the end of the bed. He was looking at you remorsefully and you couldnβt stand it.
βWhy didnβt you tell me?β
Steve didnβt sound angry, nor did he sound judgmental, merely curious.
You shrugged.
βI was embarrassed and I didnβt want you to pity me.β
βPity you?β
Now he looked surprised and you found yourself surprised in return, by his reaction.
βI think youβre extremely brave. Besides, Iβve seen plenty of mothers not have the father with them. Granted they usually had a parent or friendβ¦β he trailed off as he seemed to realize, βDo you need me to call your parents to let them know youβre in labor?β
You began to answer when a much stronger contraction than any youβd experienced so far, began.
βShit,β you moaned, one hand clutching your stomach.
Steve was off the bed in an instant, grabbing the cup out of your hands to set aside. He instinctually put his hand in yours.
βGo ahead and squeeze my hand if you need to. Just breathe. Like this.β
He began rhythmically breathing in and out, similar to what you remembered the instructor teaching at the few Lamaze classes youβd attended. Youβd never finished the class though after seeing the numerous amount of couples there, women with husbands, boyfriends or family members to support themβthe complete opposite of your situation.
You mimicked the pattern, squeezing his hand as you got through to the other side of the contraction. Not once did he wince or make any sort of expression as you probably crushed the life out of his hand; he was merely focused on your well being.
When the pain subsided, you let out a shaky breath.
βHas it passed?β
You nodded, not letting go of his hand.
βThat was the worst one yet,β you groaned.
βI hate to tell you but theyβll likely get worse from here on out. But it just means itβs getting closer to having your baby,β he smiled, βSpeaking of, should I call someone? Your contraction seemed to cut off your answer earlier,β he chuckled.
βNo. My parents died in a car crash when I was in collegeβ¦itβsββ you paused, refusing to let your voice wobble and let on just how afraid you were feeling, βItβs just me.β
Steve was surprised, though he kept his face neutral. He didnβt want her to feel embarrassed or ashamed.
Heβd seen many unique situations when it came to the patients heβd had, but this was a first.
His heart ached for her. She looked to be his age. Still, she was going through one of the toughest things in life, without the babyβs father, her own mother or even a friend to help her through this.
It was then he that he made the decision to stay with her, no matter how long it took.
β’
Only an hour had passed and the contractions seemed to ebb and flow throughout your torso and a detached part of you was humiliated at how you whimpered, groaned and panted through it all.
Unfortunately, after another dilation check, youβd only inched a centimeter up, putting your progress at five centimeters. There was no telling how much longer it would be.
βYouβre doing great, Y/N,β Steve soothed, placing the cool cloth heβd fetched earlier for you against your forehead, newly cool and damp.
βThis fucking sucks,β you panted, eyes squeezing shut.
βIt does,β he agreed, βBut youβre making it through.β
You cried out at another contraction, gripping the railing of the bed.
βBreathe, breathe. Just focus on the sound of my voice, okay? In and out. Thatβs it, Y/N. Itβll be over in a moment, I promise. Youβre doing amazing, keep breathing.β
Normally, one would think that hearing coaxing like Steveβs in the midst of pain would drive any laboring woman insane, but his voice was soft, soothing and melodicβa direct opposition to the sharp, harsh edges of pain from your contractions.
Maybe it was because he was the only support you had, the only lifeline, if you will, but his encouragement helped you make it through each and every contraction.
That being said though, youβd made up your mind.
βSteve?β you breathed, when the contraction finally eased.
βYes?β
βI think I want that epidural now.β
β’
βYouβre going to have to sit very still for me, can you do that?β Steve murmured, facing you.
You were sitting on the edge of the bed, the anesthesiologist at your back, setting up the things sheβd need to administer the epidural. You didnβt care about the needles, the insertion or any of the other things that had scared you months ago, you just wantedβno, neededβrelief from this pain.
βYes,β you said firmly.
βJust hold on to me, okay? Lean forward, back out and your shoulders slumped forward.β
You did what Steve told you, leaning forward into him, your hands clinging to his arms. His touch was gentle as he held you close to him and you tried your best to stay still.
It seemed to take an eternity, but you felt the gentle squeeze of Steveβs hands on your arms, letting you know he was still here with you. Finally, the insertion was complete and you were allowed to lay back in bed.
Glancing at the clock, you noticed it was nearing midnight, already well past 11:30 pm.
βIβve kept you way too long, Iβm so sorry,β you said, apologetically.
βItβs okay. Since my other patient delivered hours ago, youβre my only patient tonight.β
βSo I wonβt get you in trouble?β
He pulled up the chair that had remained glaringly empty and sat down at your bedside, shaking his head.
βItβs a slow night. Besides, Iβm helping a patient,β he grinned.
You closed your eyes, just to rest as you began to feel the sharpness of the pain dull just a bit. You were glad to eventually feel numbness seeping its way through your lower body, the relief glorious.
Silence hung in the room between you two, yet you didnβt have the energy to try and make small talk. Besides, Steveβs company was welcomed, whether you spoke or not. Something told you he didnβt mind the silence either.
It was actually Steve who broke the silence. You mightβve actually slipped to sleep for a bit too as you didnβt quite hear what he asked.
βHmm?β
βSorry, I didnβt mean to wake you,β he said apologetically, looking genuinely sorry.
βItβs okay. Just resting my eyes,β you answered, rubbing your fingers over your eyes.
βIf youβd like to sleep, I can come back.β
βNo, no,β you shook your head, probably a little too fiercely.
You didnβt want him to go.
βI mean, Iβm awake now. What was it you said?β
βWell, I said if you didnβt mind me asking, are you having a boy or girl?β
βOh,β your face flushed, βI umβ¦I actually donβt know.β
You sat up as best as you could, Steve helping you to reposition. You thanked him as he sat back in the chair at your bedside.
βYou wanted it to be a surprise?β he asked.
βI guess you could say that,β you chuckled dryly, though there was no humor in it, βI kinda was detached from the whole pregnancy, so I didnβt want to find out. It was like if I didnβt find out what I was having, it wouldnβt be real.β
Steve watched you intently, no judgement on his face. You couldnβt tell what he was thinking and it quite unnerved you.
βThat probably sounds horrible, I know.β
βNo, it doesnβt. People cope with things differently,β Steve answered neutrally.
For some reason, though he hadnβt even asked, you found the need to explain to him. You didnβt want to sound like a horrible person, especially not to Steve.
Steve listened patiently, although you can tell heβs just waiting for you to continue the story in your own time. You appreciated him for that.
βWell of course, when I found out I was pregnant, he wanted nothing to do with it. I also found out I wasnβt the only βgirlfriendβ in his life. So from the beginning I was distraught, mourning the loss of a relationship that never was, disconnected from the pregnancy because I didnβt want to admit that I was in this alone. I didnβt spend time bonding with the baby, Iβm a horrible mother already. I feel so bad that I wasted all this time not paying attention to the baby. What if itβs born not loving me because I tried to act like it didnβt exist? What if Iβm not cut out to be a good mother?β
Youβre full on sobbing now, your shoulders shaking with your cries. Whether itβs all of the emotions youβd held at bay for nine months, your over exhaustion from the nearly 12 hours youβve already spent in labor or a combination of both, it all comes spilling out.
βIβm so sorry,β you blubbered as you feel Steveβs arms wrap around you, pulling you close, βIβm so sorry.β
Part of you is apologizing to Steve, but the other part is to your unborn baby thatβs currently making its journey to this side of the world. You only hope he or she can forgive you.
βShh, itβs okay,β Steve soothes, rubbing your back.
Your tears soaked his scrubs, but he doesnβt move, letting you cry all you want. You feel pathetic, clinging to your labor and delivery nurse, in a mess of tears.
βEverything will be okay,β his deep voice murmurs, his arms holding you tightly against him, βI know it seems like it wonβt, but it will.β
βGod, Iβm sorry,β you croak, when your tears subside to sniffles and you pull away to see the large wet spot against his chest.
βDonβt apologize,β he said sincerely, helping you lay back again, making sure youβre comfortable, βYouβre exhausted and overwhelmed. Believe it or not, tears are pretty normal throughout this.β
βHave you ever had a mother cling to you and sob though?β you groaned, still feeling the burn of humiliation at your actions as he pulls the thin sheet over you, tucking you in.
βI canβt say I have. Though there was a fight between two mothers once on who would get me as a nurse. Apparently Iβm popular enough that I sometimes am requested by name. It was a whole knock down drag out fight. I think one of them tossed their ice in the otherβs face and then barely missed a purse to the face when she had to stop and bend over for a contraction. It was quite the scene.β
You laughed, then squinted at him.
βYouβre making this up, arenβt you?β
βNo, I swear!β he raised his hands defensively, though his lips twitch with a smile, which gives away his lie, βOkay, maybe I am. But I wasnβt lying about being requested by name. That, surprisingly has happened more than Iβd ever expect.β
βIβm not surprised,β you said softly, βYouβre a really great nurse, Steve.β
βWell, thanks,β he smiled, almost bashfully.
Your eyes are drooping, the crying spell having worn you out enough to become sleepy. Youβre numb from the waist down, though according to the contraction monitor, youβre still steadily having contractions, though you no longer can feel them.
βGet some sleep, okay? Youβll need your energy for later.β
βNo,β you argue, trying to stay awake, not wanting him to leave you.
As if he can read your mindβalthough maybe he sees it in your eyesβhe takes your hand, giving it a gentle squeeze before sitting back in the chair.
βIβm not going anywhere. I promise.β
β’
βWhy does labor take so long?β
Youβd managed to get a few hours of sleepβbetween being woken up by Steve doing his job and checking on you. It was miraculous in itself that youβd managed to get a bit of shut eye. When youβd woken up though, you were once again in pain and were shivering violently.
Apparently your epidural had halfway worked. While you werenβt nearly in the amount of pain youβd been in pre-epidural, you still felt it on your right side. Also, you were having a common side effect to it, trembling uncontrollably.
But, youβd rather this than the excruciating pain from before.
Steve sat in the same chair as earlier, though his feet were resting up on your bed. Youβd insisted actually that he might as well get comfortable if he was going to stay with you and he finally gave in.
βDo you want the medical answer to that?β he asked, with a raised brow.
βNot especially,β you grumbled.
It was the dead middle of the night, the hands on the clock just passing the 3 am mark. Your baby was sure taking its sweet time.
βItβs not uncommon with first time mothers,β Steve assured you, βItβs something new your body is undergoing that it hasnβt done before, so it tends to take a little longer. All of that along with how fast and well the baby wants to move down the birth canal.β
You gave him a mildly grumpy look which surprisingly he took in stride, not seeming offended at all, but in fact, laughing.
βIβm sorry, blame the job. Medical explanations are kind of burned into my brain at this point,β he chuckled, βIt stinks, I know.β
βBut,β he emphasizes, trying to keep your spirits high, βYouβre on perfect track and getting closer to the end. You were a little drowsy when Kelly woke you earlier for your dilation check, so I donβt know how much you remember, but youβre at 7 centimeters now. Not much longer to go.β
Steve got up, grabbing the fluffy blanket heβd brought in earlier for you, placing it around your shoulders and cocooning you in it.
βHere, this should help with the shaking. Technically, itβs not because youβre cold that youβre shaking, but because of the medicine in the epidural. The warmth tends to help some.β
βThanks,β you said, pulling it around you, βTell me doctor, why am I shaking then?β
βHey, donβt give me more credit than I deserve here,β he teased, βIβm just a nurse. But to answer your question, itβs most likely the surge of hormones your body is producing currently. Your bodyβs adrenaline is also heightened during labor because it helps give you the strength to push when its time.β
You frown, nerves kicking in again at the unknown of whatβs to come.
βIs it going to hurt? Pushing?β you asked.
βIt varies person to person. Of course since I donβt know how much pain youβre feeling with your epidural only halfway working currently, I canβt really tell you. I wonβt lie, it will probably be difficult because pushing is an exhausting task.β
You press your lips together before biting down on your bottom one, attempting to keep your anxiety at bay.
βI want you to know something though,β Steve said, his tone serious.
βWhatβs that?β you questioned.
βNo matter if itβs easy or difficult, whether it takes two pushes or ten, youβre not going to do this alone, okay? Iβm going to be right here, by your side.β
β’
By the time the sun begins to peek over the horizon, youβve finally dilated enough to begin pushing.
Not only have you spent the entire night laboring, you and Steve have probably talked about everything under the sun. From favorite tv shows, hobbies, his younger band of friends to even a debate on which cheese was betterβGouda or Brie.
Heβd definitely gone above and beyond when it came to keeping you company, doing all that he could to keep your mind at ease and keep you occupied.
Itβs nearing 7 oβclock when your doctor shows up, just in time, you think. About ten minutes before his arrival youβd began feeling a mounting pressure in your lower half that was bearable until now.
βIs it normal to feel so much pressure?β you grimaced, starting to feel uncomfortable.
βYup. Means itβs time to push,β Steve said.
Thankfully, that was when the doctor decided to make his appearance, along with Kelly to help once again, too.
βWhich means itβs time to have a baby!β your doctor announced with a smile.
Time to have a baby. The baby could be here any moment. You felt yourself begin to spiral with just how real it was becoming.
βHey. Look at me.β
To your left came the dulcet sound of Steveβs voice as he offered his hand out to you to squeeze.
βRight here. Okay?β he reassured.
βOkay.β
Then, you started pushing.
-
Youβd lost count how many times youβd pushed although youβd been pushing for over an hour now.
Daylight seeped through the window of the hospital room, golden sunlight of the early morning bathing the room in a glow. In any other circumstances, youβd find the sight pretty, but in this moment, you were occupied with much more important things.
βGood, good, youβre doing fine,β your doctor enthused, βI can see the head now.β
You were sweaty, sore and exhausted. Yet Steve didnβt let up on his encouragement. In fact, he seemed to increase it, especially in moments he could tell you were waning. It was like this strange connection between you two and he knew exactly when you needed the extra push.
βYouβre doing amazing, Y/N,β he whispered, only loud enough for you to hear, βYouβre almost there, okay?β
You nodded, feeling the building pressure of another contraction, knowing you were going to be pushing once again, incredibly soon.
βOkay, give me another big push now, Y/N,β your doctor ordered.
You squeeze your eyes shut, pushing as hard as you can and you hear the female assistant nurse, Kelly, counting.
βOne, two, three, four!β
Squeezing Steveβs hand as hard as you can, he continues to rapidly praising you.
βThatβs it, Y/N! Keep going, keep going. And rest.β
You collapsed against the pillow near tears, exhaustion overruling everything else.
βThe head is almost out,β you heard Steve say, βJust one or two more big pushes and itβll be over.β
βI canβt,β you shake your head, tears threatening to spill over, βI canβt do this, Steve.β
One hand is already in yours, but his free hand joins the other one, holding your hand in between his own. He rests his forehead against yours and your eyes lock with his. Itβs as if heβs trying to channel all the strength he has into you.
βYes, you can. Youβre not alone. Iβm right here and Iβm not leaving, but I need you to do this. Itβs only a little bit longer and youβre almost there. You can do this, Y/N.β
His words centered you, banishing the panic that was threatening to overwhelm you just a moment earlier. You breath in deeply through your nose, eyes fluttering shut as you gear yourself up for the finishing act.
The deep breath helps clear your mind, helps you to become more determined. Steve believes you can do this and his words continue to ring in your ears as you nod against him.
He stepped back, giving you space as you prepare to push on the next contraction. His face is filled with concentration and youβre sure yours is too. Thereβs a small glint in his eye as one corner of his mouth turns upwardsβa small expression of his support.
With the newfound determination Steve has given you, you put all your strength into the following push and it happens to pay off. Loud cries immediately permeate the room and youβre breathless and panting when you fall back against the bed, in awe. Not only is your baby finally here, but you canβt believe you actually did it.
βCongratulations, you have a healthy baby girl!β the doctor boomed.
You donβt realize youβre still holding Steveβs hand until he gives it a squeeze, joy lighting up his entire face.
βItβs a girl!β he beams down at you.
βA girl,β you whisper in amazement, a smile on your face.
You donβt even manage to see her before Kelly whisks your baby away.
βWhaβWhatβs wrong? Is she okay? Is something wrong?β
Your brows creased in concern as you turn your head to Steve. Heβs removed his hand from yours and heβs smoothing your mess of hair back from your face before answering.
βSheβs okay. Itβs normal for them to take the baby off to the nursery. Sheβs going to be cleaned up, weighed, vitals taken and bathed. You want me to go check on her?β
You nodded, relief coursing through your veins.
βPlease.β
βNo problem. Get some rest and Iβll go keep an eye on baby girl Y/L/N.β
Your eyes begin to feel heavy as you attempt to answer him.
βThank you,β you whispered, not entirely sure if he heard your expression of gratitude before sleep takes over.
β’
It was nearing 9 in the morning, nearly two hours since Steveβs shift was supposed to end, yet Steve kept his promise and headed to the nursery.
Babies are lined up in their own little hospital bassinets in front of the window where relatives can gaze adoringly at their newest little family member. Itβs noisy, but not anything too out if control. Thereβs coos, gurgling and a baby cry or twoβa few babies not being pleased with whatever is going on.
βSteve!β an older nurse named Ruth, exclaimed as she notices him walk in, βI didnβt expect to see you here. Wasnβt your shift over hours ago?β
βIt was,β he admitted with a smile, βBut I had a special patient and didnβt want to leave her.β
Her smile was kind, though teasing.
βYouβre too good at what you do, kid. Keep this up and these mothers are going to petition for a mural of your face in the hospital lobby.β
He laughed, shaking his head at her wit.
βI just stopped by to see baby girl Y/L/N. I promised her mother I would make sure sheβs okay.β
βShe the one that didnβt have anyone with her for the birth?β Ruth asked.
βMan, word gets around here fast, doesnβt it?β
Ruth gave him a look like he ought to know better, before continuing.
βSheβs doing fine. Brenda just finished checking her vitals and getting her measurements. Sheβs a healthy 6 pounds 8 ounces. Sheβll probably be getting a bath soon, nothing to worry about.β
Steve nodded.
βCan you let me know when sheβs ready? I want to be able to take her to her mother.β
Ruth glanced at the clock on the wall, amused.
βThey donβt pay you enough for all that you do, Steve.β
He shrugged.
βSometimes itβs more about the people than the money.β
β’
Youβd only manage to doze off for a few minutes after Steveβs departure before the doctor and nurse had woken you for the post-labor part of delivery.
After that was over with, you did fall back into sleep, but not before a new nurse came by. You faintly remembered her introducing herself as Marie. Youβd also managed to mumble out only one question before falling back asleep.
βWhereβs Steve?β
You heard more than saw the confusion in her remark.
βHarrington? Heβs on night duty and has probably already left. His shift was over at 7 this morning.β
Your brain was foggy from a mixture of the drugs and the events of the last 19 hours, but you thought you remembered hearing the time of the babyβs birth being 8:47 am.
Steve had stayed long past his shift, just so he could stay with you.
βTell himββ you mumbled, eyes falling closed as you gave in to the temptation of rest.
Tell him thank you.
When you woke, daylight streamed through the window of the hospital room, brightening it significantly. Peering at the clock, you noticed it was nearly 11 and youβd managed over an hours worth of sleep. Not much, but better than nothing.
βHey there, mommy.β
You turned your head and gasped, surprised to see Steve sitting in the chair next to you, holding a swaddled baby.
βWhat? Youβre still here? What are you doing here?β
βOuch. Is that anyway to talk to the nurse that brought your baby to visit?β Steve teased.
It was as if your mind hadnβt processed the fact that your little human was no longer inside of you and was actually in the world now.
βMy baby?β you questioned, eyes falling to the stirring bundle in his arms.
βI brought her to see mommy,β Steve smiled, standing up with her in his arms, βWould you like to hold her now?β
You nodded.
βYes, please.β
You held your arms out and Steve placed the most perfect, warm, little bundle of joy in your arms.
It was awkward at first as you hadnβt had much practice holding babies, but Steve helped you, guiding your arms into a much more relaxed and less tense position.
Your little girlβs eyes opened the minute you took her, like she knew she was finally being reunited with her mother. One little hand stuck out of the swaddle and you chuckled at it, in awe of how tiny it and she truly was.
You ran a finger over the small, clenched fist then over her smooth, soft cheek. Her skin was as smooth as the finest silk imaginable. Tiny gurgles and coos came from her and her adorable puckered lips opened wide with a yawn, making you smile even wider.
For all the disconnect youβd felt during the pregnancy, the love you now felt for this tiny person was now multiplied tenfold. You may have tried to hide from the love that was developing for your child, but itβd caught up to youβnine months of love youβd try to run from, crashing down on you the instant you saw her perfect face. Your heart truly felt like it would burst from the amount of love you felt for her.
Labor had been so incredibly taxing and difficult, but knowing she was the reward for it truly made it all worth it. Steve had been right.
Steve.
Youβd been so caught up in admiration, youβd momentarily forgotten about his presence. You wanted to thank him for all heβd done before he slipped away for you never to see again.
But when you looked up, he was still there. Now sitting on the edge of the bed, watching you two with a smile as wide as your own.
βSheβs perfect,β you breathed, βI love her so much.β
βI know. I can tell,β he grinned, βSheβs apparently very well behaved, according to a friend in the nursery.β
You beamed, already incredibly proud of your hours old daughter.
βYou never answered my question,β you reminded him, βMy current nurse, Marie, told me your shift was over hours ago. You shouldβve gone home.β
βAnd miss the main event? Never,β he chuckled.
βSteve,β your voice was gentle, βI really canβt thank you enough for all that youβve done. You did so muchβ¦helped me so much. I donβt think I couldβve done this without you. Shit. Now Iβm crying again.β
You wiped at your face with one hand and chuckle, trying to stave off any more tears. Heβs smiling too and somehow, you know he understands what youβre trying to say.
βYouβre welcome,β he responded humbly before moving on from the subject of himself, βWhat are you going to name her?β
βDiana,β you said firmly, confident in how right it sounds for your daughter, βIn honor of her grandmotherβmy mom, Diane. Diana Hope. But, I think Iβd actually like to call her Hope. Itβs because of her that I met you and both of you have given me hope.β
βItβs perfect.β
-
In the chaos of post-birth, there were nurses coming in and out at all times to check on you, making sure your body was on the right track for healing. Nurses came in to check on the baby, a specialist came in to discuss feeding options and taught you how to breastfeed and then there was the the matter of getting Hopeβs birth certificate filled outβnow that she actually had a name.
You got to spend more time with Hope, even taking a few naps in between the frequent visits.
Without your knowledge, Steve had managed to slip out at some point and you felt a pang of sadness at the fact you didnβt get to say goodbye before he left the hospital.
βWell, I guess thatβs that, huh baby girl?β you spoke softly to Hope, not having yet put her down.
It was then that a slip of paper on the rolling table caught your attention. The table held your long melted cup of ice and other hospital room odds and ends, but you didnβt recall seeing a piece of folded paper on it before.
Holding Hope tight to your chest, you used one hand and slid the table closer to the side of the bed until you could reach the scrap. When you opened it, your heart skipped a beat.
There was a phone number scrawled on it and a message below.
If you ever need a friend. -Steve Harrington
β’
Weeks had passed and work kept Steve busy.
He hadnβt heard from Y/N and itβd been nearly a month since sheβd changed his world.
He knew he had no right to, but he couldnβt stop thinking of her, thinking of little Hope, wondering how both of them were faring.
He scolded himself for leaving his phone number. She probably had no use for it, but heβd really wanted her to know she wasnβt alone. Maybe the gesture alone had been enough to help her, he might never know.
Of course, newborns were a lot of work and maybe sheβd just been kept busy settling into life as a mother. He knew he was foolish to hope maybe one day heβd hear from her, but it didnβt stop him from doing so.
Even still, he wished all the best for her, no matter what.
Heβd just finished up assisting in the Operating Room during a Cesarean section, healthy twins just being delivered. Mom was doing good and in recovery, but she wasnβt on his patient roster for the night. He had one other mother that was just admitted in early labor, but he wasnβt needed right now for much assistance. It soon became eerily like the night he met Y/Nβan unusual, slow night.
He sighed heavily, sitting in a chair at the nurseβs station, propping his feet up on the desk in front of him. He leaned back as far as the chair would let him, his hands resting behind his head, fingers laced. He stared at the hospital ceiling as if it held the answers to the world.
βThatβs an awful big sigh over there Harrington. Everything okay?β
He looked over at his co-worker and friend Kelly, whoβd also been there the night Y/N had given birth.
βYou ever wonder about how the moms and babies are doing after they leave us?β
She gave him a knowing look and he raised a brow in question.
βThis isnβt about that one girl from a month ago that you stayed with hours after your shift, is it?β
βDamn. Is it that obvious?β he asked.
βNo, I just know you.β
βI donβt know,β he shrugged, βI guess I just worry for her and not out of pity. Sheβs probably one of the strongest women Iβve met in my time here. To go through all of that all alone and face motherhood alone. Thatβs pretty fucking admirable to me.β
Kelly was smirking at him and he gave her a confused glance, not quite sure why she was reacting to his comment in that manner.
He was about to question her when a nurse he wasnβt as familiar withβthough he recognized her faceβapproached the desk.
βSteve Harrington?β
βYeah, thatβs me,β he answered, righting himself in the chair, feet dropping to the floor, βWhatβs up?β
βThereβs a visitor in the waiting room for you,β she said, head motioning down the hall towards the waiting room.
With that, she walked off, leaving a confused Steve and an intrigued Kelly.
βOne of your kids?β she teased.
βI wouldnβt be surprised,β he mumbled.
Ever since getting this job, his younger group of friends tended to show up from time to time for surprise visits. Sometimes for no other reason than just because.
Usually he didnβt mind them and was glad to spend a break with them, but still, he sometimes missed the days before they got drivers licenses.
Shaking his head, he stood, heading down the hall towards the waiting room. It was usually only used for extended family and friends to await the birth of loved onesβ babies.
If they were out this late to visit him, he at least hoped they brought pizza. He was starving.
The moment he stepped into the doorway of the waiting room, he froze. His suspicions of the identity of his guest couldnβt have been more wrong.
There she sat, the only one in the room, an empty baby carrier next to her. In her arms was a sleeping Hope, so much bigger in just the weeks since heβd last seen her. She was gazing down at Hope, clearly not having heard his arrival, swaying gently in the seat with her. He was utterly mesmerized at the sight.
βHi,β he breathed, unable to believe both of you were right in front of him.
You looked up, a small smile curling on your lips in greeting to him.

The teddy bears? *melts* Jesus Christ, Mommy. I read one fic where Eddie turned the bears cause he didn't want them to watch π and I immediately sent it to my friend. We've had this conversation so many times because I currently have 6 bears and 1 hedgehog on my bedframe.
One of them is actually a werewolf that's Eddie! I got a plain white shirt and a hellfire patch, with a denim jacket and little jeans. I made it at build a bear and when they guy pulled off his birth certificate he just went "so how hard did you cry?" "Well. I made him into a stuffed animal so you can see how I'm coping."
Ugh I wish I had a Eddie bear! That sounds adorable
requesting an eddie one where all his hellfire friends bully his gf & she starts crying & shutting down because she doesnβt have a good life at home either & she thought they were here escape & eddie tries to figure out what happened

Y/N struggled a lot with her self esteem. She grew up with parents who breathed down her neck about everything she did wrong. She was too loud, talked way too much, voiced too many opinions and was overall annoying.
But when she met Eddie, he didn't think any of those things
"I'm the same way baby" he said with a smile
It wasn't hard to feel comfortable and welcomed around him. He made everything feel so easy. She spent less time holding back her words, just freely voicing everything out.
She met hellfire and figured they all were like Eddie. Eddie wouldn't hangout with rude or mean people. She didn't try to hold herself back. Allowing herself to just be her, the way Eddie would have wanted.
~~
But she began to see that it was a mistake. At first they all seemed fine with her. She's Eddie's girlfriend and they are his friends, so they spend a lot of time together.
She didn't know that every boy in that group was seconds away from lashing out. No idea that she was talking too much and driving them insane.
"okay so since Eddie's birthday is in two days, I'm thinking we could all run to the party shop downtown. I'll buy it, no worries. I'm thinking lots of red, black and white. We could do a hellfire theme. He's really into ball-"
"just please shut up!" Mike sighed, throwing his hands over his face
She froze fast. Lips shutting in seconds. A painful routine she was used to
"we love Eddie and we already have stuff planned for his birthday. We don't need you and your big party planning. He hates that shit" Gareth snapped
She felt embarrassed. She didn't know Eddie didn't like big birthday parties.
"maybe if you didn't talk so much you'd hear about the things he actually likes" Jeff scoffed. Laughing like it was the best thing ever.
"yeah he also doesn't like that you watch his campaigns. He tells us he hates when you try to help him design it. He doesn't like your ideas, he feels like he has to use them because you'll cry. He doesn't like how emotional you are. How he liked anything about you is beyond me" Lucas added with a shrug.
She felt her throat close up. Nodding to everything they were saying.
It was so easy to believe. So easy to break her heart all over again.
"um... yeah..okay" she said quietly, throwing her backpack over her shoulder, leaving her binder of party ideas behind and running out the door.
~~
"don't you think that was harsh?" Dustin asked, his heart breaking for the sad girl who ran out the door
"no. She needed to hear it. Now let's plan this epic party" Gareth smirked as he yanked the binder.
~~
Eddie had no idea what happened to his girlfriend. She did a whole 180 on him. Last week she was talking happily in his ear for hours. He was writing down every amazing idea she had for his campaign. Asking about every detail of everything he liked. And this week?
He's barely seen her. She hasn't shown up to hellfire in 2 days. Constantly running when he caught up to her. Lips sealed shut when he asked for her opinion. It was like she was a ghost.
But today was his birthday and there was no way he was spending it without her.
"baby come on. The boys are here already" Eddie sighed, trying to yank her out of his van
"I still think I should let you have boy time" she said quietly. Picking at her nails as she eyed Gareth's house.
"trust me I've had lots of boy time. It's my birthday let's go have fun okay?"
She really didn't want to but she wasn't going to run his birthday.
She sighed and gave him a nod. Allowing him to drag her to the house.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" hellfire screamed as Eddie walked in the door.
She was caught up in Eddie's huge smile that she didn't notice the decorations right away.
But once she did, she felt a kick in her gut.
It was all her ideas
The colors, the banner, the balloons and even the cake.
Everything from her binder
"wow these decorations are amazing" Eddie was in awe
"thanks man. Got them all myself" Jeff said proudly, glaring as Y/N tried to hide herself in the corner.
Eddie looked at him confused
"oh really? Did Y/N give you her list?" Eddie asked, having no idea the question would cause a ton of heat towards his girlfriend. His back to everyone as he looked down at his cake
"bitching cake!"
"no, Gareth picked it all out" Mike defended
"all my own ideas man" Gareth said with a big smile
Eddie looked over at his girlfriend. Even more confused as she refused to look anywhere
"baby aren't you going to say something?" He asked
Everyone looked at her then him
"um no" she said fast, shaking her head
"about what?" Dustin asked. The only one who was giving her a smile
"this whole room is decorated from your binder" Eddie said, slightly growing angry as his friends would try to take credit for everything
"I don't know what you are talking about. Here let's open gifts" she said quickly. Trying to move on from the topic
"no no. You do know what I'm talking about. The binder is filled with your birthday ideas for my party. You showed it to me for hours and we went over every detail. Why are you lying to me? And why are you letting them take the credit?" Eddie questioned as he walked closer to her. Keeping her eyes on him only
"I...um...I" but she didn't know what to say. The heated glares she was getting from over Eddie's shoulder had her shaking with fear
"because they stole it. After they made her cry and run out the door" Dustin said, breaking the silence
Eddie's soft eyes turned pissed in seconds. His head snapping to Dustin
"what did you say?" He growled
"they told her she talked too much. And that there was no reason why you would ever really like her. That she doesn't know anything you like because she's always talking over you. That you hate that she's emotional and hate when she tries to be part of the campaign " Dustin refused to hold back.
What these guys did to her was wrong and they deserved whatever Eddie was going to give to them.
"is that true?" His eyes returned to her, already softening and gentle
"I um...yes?"
He nodded and kissed her nose, smiling to her before turning around.
An angry expression on his face as he marched Infront of Gareth's face
"you have a lot of nerve talking to my girlfriend that way. Jeff and Mike? I'll talk to them later but you! You have been my best friend for most of my life. And knowing you would hurt someone I love like this is so fucking cold. You don't ever disrespect her like that again. Half the ideas you boys praise in that campaign are hers. I talk a lot, I talk more than she does. That never was a problem. Why is it now? Huh? Once you learn how to respect my girlfriend and fucking apologize I'll return to hellfire" he snapped. Eyes flashing to Jeff and Mike
He walked to the door, grabbing her hand softly
"thanks Dustin" Eddie nodded towards him
Bringing his girlfriend back to his van
"don't believe a word they said. I've been missing you so much these few days. I miss your voice, your ideas, they are jealous jerks. Don't stress about them okay?" He pecked her nose softly
She nodded and wiped her tears
"okay I won't" she smiked
"good. Now tell me all about your last two days, the good stuff"
He smiled as she went ranting in seconds. Easily occupied with her own words. That was the girl he loved. And he wasn't going to let anyone make her feel like she had to be different.
sorry i havent been posting at all recently. sorry.
also, HAPPY NEW YEARS
sorry if it not as much as yall want.

Eddie at first didnβt know how to comprehend that your favorite shows are crime shows. Some are fake and some are real fucking stories.
That blew his mind.
He thought you were psycho.
You are the first significant other he has had. Like ever.
Eddie didnβt know that one could get addicted to crime shows. Some of the episodes that you are watching scare him a lot more than horror movies do.Β
And Eddie with his dumb self, decided to ask the Hellfire club of what he should do.
Some of them said that he should leave you before he gets murdered, and the others said that he shouldnβt leave you because then that is when he will get murdered.Β
Dustin pointed out that some people just watch them for no specific reason, they just think that it is school, or maybe they like the bad guyβs getting caught. He pointed out that his own mother, the wonderful Ms. Henderson watches them late at night and sometime Dustin even joins her because they seem kind of cool.
But everyone gets back to talking and completely ignores what he said.
When Eddie came over to your house unexpectedly, like always so at this point it's almost expectable.Β
And once again you were watching your crime shows, and Eddie just accepted at this point.
You are always his perfect sweetheart. You are his darling. You are his perfect disaster. You are his extraordinary chaos. You are his doll. You are his everything.
So, he will love you despite your weirdness, because you love him despite his.
Maybe a few days later it doesnβt bother him anymore because now he has started to enjoy them with you. He will ditch going with his friends somewhere just so he can stay home with you and watch some random guy killing people.

Y/N adored Eddie Munson ever since she first saw him. The curly hair and puppy eyes had her smitten.
She wasn't shy either, she wanted Eddie to know just how she felt. But she was slowly learning how difficult he made it. The way he brushed her off shattered her more every day but she didn't want to give up. She wanted him to give her a chance because she thinks they could be really good together.
He just didn't see that
But he did and he hated it. He hated the teasing he got from his friends. The embarrassment he felt whenever his friends would laugh when she came up to him
"oooo your girlfriend is coming"
"I heard your girlfriend is taking up guitar"
"your girlfriend is wearing your favorite color"
It got too annoying. Her constantly coming up to him. Eyes everywhere watching them interact.
~~
"Eddie hey! Do you want to be partners for the chemistry lab?"
"sorry I'm going to partner up with Gareth" he said with a tight smile
"oh that's cool!" She said, accepting the rejection with a smile
Only to watch him walk past Gareth and sit alone at a different desk.
Students laughed as she walked silently back to her desk.
~~
"hey Eddie! I have an extra ticket to the carnival this weekend, are you interested in coming with me?" A hopeful smile on her face
"I don't really like carnivals" he shrugged, walking past her into the classroom
She brushed it off. Carnivals aren't for everyone.
But then she saw him laughing with Chrissy as he won her a stuffed animal
~~
"wow Eddie! Your new patch is so cool. Where did you get it?"
"I'm not quite sure. Just bought it somewhere"
She nodded, trying to wrap her brain for a way to keep the conversation going
"oh. I actually work at a record shop and we sell patches. Maybe you could come check it out?"
"not sure I can fit many more" he laughed awkwardly
"right yeah" ignoring the way half of his vest was empty and plain
Gareth snickering as she walked away
"your little girlfriend wants you to visit her at work"
~~
"Eddie, I was wondering if you could teach me how to play guitar? I can't afford real classes but I could pay you a small amount for just like an hour?" Bouncing on her feet, as she rocked nervously
"I don't really have any free time. Sorry"
Sighing to herself as he walked out of the lunchroom.
Maybe it was time she just accepted Eddie Munson didn't like her and he never would.
~~
Eddie knew he was being a dick but he couldn't handle the side comments from his friends. He didn't like her but he didn't know how to come out and say it. He felt guilty every time her smile dropped and she walked away all sad but he had his eyes on Chrissy and he couldn't have her thinking he had a girlfriend.
~~
Y/N decided to give up on Eddie. It was clear he wasn't interested and that she embarrassed him. She heard his friends side comments and their laughs. At the end of the day she was hurting herself and no guy was worth that.
So she began to focus on herself. She did her hair and make up, feeling more beautiful than ever. The confidence boosting her mood instantly.
She sat in chemistry, working quietly on the lab, alone.
Not bothering to ask Eddie to be her partner. He never said yes so she didn't plan today to be different.
She was too caught up in her lab she didn't notice Eddie's brown eyes moving from his lab to her to the lab and back to her.
~~
"your little girlfriend pissed at you or what?" Gareth asked, noticing Y/N hasn't walked up to him once today
"stop calling her that" Eddie snapped, rolling his eyes
"relax it's a joke" Gareth eyed him
"it's not funny" Eddie snapped again
"I was just poking fun at her obvious crush on you. Don't need to be a dick" Gareth scoffed
~~
Eddie noticed that Y/N didn't talk to him anymore. He used to run into her everyday but he's been met with silence for a week.
He also noticed how beautiful she looked. He always thought she was beautiful but lately she's had this glow. A sort of confidence in her step.
He also had to admit to himself that he was starting to miss her. Maybe he should have just given her a chance. It wasn't like he'd have to throw himself in a relationship with her. She was just being friendly.
~~
He was ironing on a new patch on his vest when his brain thought back to her. Feeling like an asshole for rejecting her invitation to her work so harshly. All she wanted to do was find a similar interest. She was being a nice girl and he let his friends stupid comments control him and treat her like shit.
Eddie decided he'd ask her where her work was, take her up on the small offer if she still cared to have him around.
~~
He's never felt so nervous to talk to her before. He wonders if this was what she felt like every time.
"um hey Y/N?"
Her head snapped up, eyes widening as she saw who was talking to her
"um yeah?" She asked hesitantly, looking at him curiously as she twirled her pencil.
"I took off some old patches and was hoping to look for new ones. I remember you saying your work has them? Um where is that exactly?"
He felt his heart race as she smiled. Which wasn't too new to him
"um it's on Babcock, called Groovy Records"
He nodded at the information, writing it down as he thanked her
"um when do you work there next? I'd trust your opinion on what's worth buying" he cringed at his dumb excuse
'"um okay. I have a shift tonight from 4-8"
"I'll be there"
~~
Eddie showed up at 7. Hoping the rush was over and she'd be free to help him out.
He walked in, the bell chumming loudly as he scooped out the room for her. Spotting someone with their back turned, playing the guitar. And they were playing it very well.
He slowly walked up and noticed it was her. She was deep into playing, not realizing he even arrived.
"doesn't look like you need my help at all" he joked
She jumped at the sudden voice, turning around fast to see Eddie standing there, hands in his pockets as he rocked on his feet.
"oh yeah. I bit the bullet and paid for the classes. Teacher said I'm a very fast learner" she smiled gently
Eddie felt his heart sink. Knowing she used her hard working money to pay for classes she could barely afford, all because he said no.
"I'm sorry for not helping you out" and he meant it. He felt so guilty for the way he treated her, or was treating her.
"no worries. You don't have free time then you don't have free time. Happens to all of us" she shrugged it off. She got used to Eddie blowing all her advances right out of the water. Refusing to let it hit him. She got good at it.
Eddie felt worse because truthfully he had all the free time in the world. What would be so bad about liking her? Why did he feel like he should be ashamed when she was perfect?
"um the patches are at the check out counter" she mumbled, placing down the guitar as she walked to the counter
"right. Thanks" he coughed. Digging through the different patches.
Easily picking out five as she silently watched him
"doesn't look like you need my help at all" she teased, a small smile on her face
"yeah I guess so" he let out a small chuckle. Watching her as she rang him up, placing the patches in a small bag
"there you go" she said, handing him the bag with a smile
He thanked her again and left the shop. Watching through the window as she picked up the guitar. Maybe he wasn't as into Chrissy as much as he thought.
~~
"okay this project is big, you will need time outside of the classroom to work on it. So make sure you pick a partner you can meet with after school"
Eddie's eyes kept drifting to her. Wondering if she was thinking of asking him. Eddie wasn't quite sure why but he was praying she was.
He watched as the class began to move around, her staying seated as she looked over to the rubric.
Feeling eyes on her she looked up. Surprised to see Eddie staring in her direction. She looked around to see who he was staring at. Was he staring at her?
He was hoping the longer he stared, the more of a chance she'll walk over to ask him. But she gave a tiny smile and began to look through her chemistry books.
"sad your little girlfriend didn't ask you?"
This time Gareth wasn't teasing. Watching Eddie's eyes softly staring at her.
"actually... Yeah I am" he confessed, finally moving his eyes away from her
"then ask her dude" Gareth nudged him, encouraging smile on his lips
"no... She would have asked if she wanted me" Eddie deflated
"Eddie, she likes you. But let's be honest, we've been dicks so she stopped trying. If you want her, do something"
Eddie felt a small smile on his lips
"thanks for that. What about you?" Eddie asked, if he left, Gareth didn't have a partner
"I'll figure it out. Go cheer up your girlfriend" he replied with a wink.
Eddie smiled back, taking a deep breath as he grabbed his books.
Walking over to her as his heart raced
He coughed loudly, her eyes once again finding his
"Eddie?"
"would you want to be partners?" He got out in one breath. Eyes searching her face anxiously.
"um...wait. You want to be partners with me? You know that means you have to see me out of school right? Like you physically have to sit with me for hours and it's kinda impossible to ignore me at that point " she explained, a weak chuckle leaving her lips.
"I don't want to ignore you. I want to be partners and hang out. Is it that shocking?"
He hated how fast she said yes
"considering you spent weeks avoiding any sort of contact with me, I'm definitely confused why you suddenly want to have me around" a very weak smile on her lips
Eddie flinched at her words, guilt in his stomach
"you are right. Look I'm so sorry for being such a fucking dick. I had my own issues and took them out on you, which wasn't fair. You are the kindest girl I've ever met and I really want to make it up to you. Try to be friends? But you also have every right to reject me so hard right now" a teasing smile on his lips. Trying to stay hopeful.
"I feel like as the girl you pissed off, I should tell you to go fuck yourself" Eddie deflated, his smile dropping, "but as the girl who still believes you are a nice guy, I'll say yes" her smile was too bright not to match. Smiling to himself he walked around the table and sat down.
"the new patches look nice" a wink sent his way as he fumbled with the books.
~~
The more Eddie was with her, the more he liked her. She always smelled good, always was smiling, and she was fun to be around. She was funny and quick with her tongue. He wished he gave her the time of day a long time ago.
"hey Eddie, I need a favor" her nervous smile had his eyes softening as he looked at her. Closing his locker.
"yes, what's up?"
"can we work on our project a little later today? I have a date after school"
Eddie felt his heart drop, along with his attitude. She had a date?
"you... uh...you have a boyfriend?" He squeaked out
"oh no. Just a first date. He's been asking for months but...well I'm sure you already know but I had this huge embarrassing crush on you so I never gave him a shot. So I figured why not?" She laughed, shrugging her shoulders.
"oh yeah that's fine. I can come over whenever"
"okay thanks!" She pecked his cheek and skipped down the hallway.
"a kiss on the cheek? I see asking her out on that date worked!" Gareth cheered, patting Eddie on his back
"she's going on a date with someone else" Eddie said sadly
"oh shit...I'm sorry. I totally thought she was into you" Gareth apologized. Feeling bad for his best friend.
"she said she had a crush on me so technically you were right, I just waited too long. She's looking elsewhere"
"well you still have her as a friend"
"yeah....friends"
~~
Eddie watched as the time clicked, waiting for her to call. School got out at three, he had no idea what they had planned so he wasn't sure how long he'd have to wait.
But as the clock hit five, his phone rang. He raced to it and answered
"hey Eddie! I'm back now. You can come over whenever!"
Eddie packed up his books and drove himself over. Jealousy in his veins knowing some other guy got to take her out. Something he had months to do but never thought about it.
And to no surprise, she looked gorgeous when she answered the door. Stepping aside to welcome him in as she walked to her bedroom.
"how was the date?" He didn't want to know but he needed to hear it. He sat at home praying it was the worst experience of her life
"it was really good! He was very sweet" she kept it short, opening her book as she laid out the poster
"think there's another one on the way?"
She looked up him weirdly, "probably not. Why?"
"just curious! You know as a friend just wanted to check up on things. How come you don't want another one?"
"honestly, I still have a crush on you that I need to get over first" she laughed awkwardly, dumping out her pens and markers
Eddie's heart skipped a beat, she still had the crush
"what if.. what if I told you that I didn't want you to get over it? Maybe take you on a date myself?"
"Eddie, look you don't have to pity me and ask me on a date. I'll get over the crush and we can move on"
"it's not pity. I want to take you out. I know I'm the worst person in the world and don't deserve a shot with you but I really like spending time with you. Just please think about it? Don't move on from me just quite yet, please?"
"let's start with an apology before we move forward to a date" she smiled
~~
They finished the project, and Eddie was scared she wouldn't care to keep seeing him. He started with a real apology like she asked. Spending every night together for the past two weeks. He learned more about her and learned more reasons why he was starting to like her more and more.
"your little girlfriend is coming" Gareth smiled. Eddie's eyes snapped up to look at Gareth, smiling as Y/N came into view
"hey Eddie, can we talk?"
Gareth gave Eddie an encouraging smile and walked away. Leaving her and Eddie had his locker
"what's up?"
"about that date, did you still want to give it a go?" Her nervous eyes skipping past his shoulder
"YES!" she jumped at his loud voice, laughing as he blushed
"I mean yes. I'd love to go on a date"
"pick me up at 7"
~~
Within the month, they've been on countless dates. Eddie took her to the carnival, and they spent many nights playing guitar together. He'd sit behind her and teach her new songs. He showed her how to play electric guitar, she was still a fan of the acoustic guitar.
Kissing her was one of his favorite things. She was shy and never made the first move when it came to kissing. She'd stare at his lips until he leaned in. She was soft and warm.
"okay love birds, split it up. Losing my appetite" Gareth groaned, looking away as Eddie nuzzled his face in her neck
"sorry. Wanna go make out in the bathroom?" Eddie asked
"Eddie!" She smacked his shoulder, feeling her face burn
~~
By the second month he finally asked her to be his girlfriend.
"of course!" She squealed, throwing herself on his lap on her couch. Smashing his lips in a heated make out. Moaning and groaning.
Now Eddie always wanted to be her partner.
"hey so after work, want to sleep at my place?" He asked, watching as she put away records
"you were with me at school, have been sitting at my shift for the last few hours, and you want me to sleepover? " She laughed
"duh. I love being with my pretty girl" he smirked, wrapping his arms around her as he messed up the records she was nearly putting away
She smacked his hand but found herself smiling
"fine. But I pick the movie" she argued, kissing his cheek.
And Gareth's comments made his heart race and face light up
"your girlfriend is staring"
"your girlfriend is walking over"
"you are drooling over her"
"going to see your girlfriend?"
Because at the end of the day she was the most perfect girlfriend ever.

prompt: the first time you use a pet name on steve :) (he actually really likes it. it makes him feel all special and loved and admired) - lavvvvv π
everybody say hello to my beloved. say "hello lav!" good, good.
steve x gn!reader. smidge of angst (bc it's me) but major fluff!
****
"Baby, can you try this?"
You've hardly hung your coat before Steve's in front of you with a wooden spoon full of sauce. He puts it to your lips.
"Taste, honey," he encourages. "Wanna make sure I'm not gonna kill the kids."
"I don't think you're gonna kill them with spaghetti, Steve."
Nevertheless, you bump your lips to the spoon and lick the sauce off your mouth. You smile, nodding.
"Yeah?" he asks.
"Yeah," you confirm. "First a babysitter, now a chef. Aren't I lucky."
Steve throws a grin like spun gold over his shoulder.
"Flatterer," he says, but his ears are red. "How was work?"
"Good. Not too busy."
"Everybody was nice?" he checks.
You laugh. "Yes, Steve. Everybody was nice. You don't have to crack any skulls this time."
"I have no problem doing so," he says in a tone you can't tell is joking or not. "Nobody should be giving my sweetheart a hard time."
Sweetheart. The first thing you learned while dating Steve Harrington is that he loves giving pet names. Nothing compares to the way he softens and bestows the most affectionate monikers known to man.
And what do you call him in return? Steve. Just Steve.
It's pathetic is what it is. Steve's effortless in his endearments and you refer to him like a co-worker.
"Honey?"
Steve waves a hand in front of you.
"Hmm? Sorry. What were you saying?"
His gentle smile returns.
"I was asking if you could set the table? Think this is almost done."
"Oh! Sure, yeah."
You grab the foliage-themed placemats (Steve's purchase, not yours) and head to the dining table. You don't know exactly what the reason for tonight's dinner is, but Steve loves company and cooking, and it's entirely possible he's doing this just because.
"Robin'll be here soon. Eddie's stopping by too, can you believe? I think he's bringing Dustin, who'll probably wolf down everything in three seconds and ditch us for the arcade. Kid's gotta learn some manners."
"And you wonder why you're the designated mom of the group," you giggle.
Steve rolls his eyes, but you know he's not upset. He likes being someone the kids can rely on. Somebody special.
The reminder of how Steve is nicknameless in your presence returns. He's lovely flittering about in the kitchen, at home for once in his house. You have the urge to push his hair behind his ear so you can see more of his jawline. Steve's a mix of strong and delicate features. Royally handsome. You've always thought so.
"Look at these," Steve says, holding up a pair of tomatoes. "Thought I wouldn't find any this late in the year but the good stuff was downtown. Kinda expensive, though. But they taste amazing, so I think it's worth it, y'know?"
You lean in, overwhelmed by your affection.
"Well, all the credit shouldn't go to them." Here you go. "You make anything taste good, my prince."
You wait for Steve to glow, maybe turn a little shy. It doesn't come. Instead, he stiffens. Your smile slips.
"Steve?" you try.
He turns off the stove. You shift antsily.
"Steve, did you hear? I saidβ"
"Your prince," he finishes. "Yeah, I heard you. I get it. I'm so removed from reality that I'll go downtown for good tomatoes. 'Cause I'm the trust fund kid. I got it."
"What? N-no, no, no! Oh my God, Steve."
You get up. Steve's already curling in on himself, trying to self-soothe and bury his hurt. You tug him away from the stove and cup his face with your hands.
"That's not what I meant, Steve. I would never make that joke. I'm sorry, I just wanted to call you a name!"
That makes him tilt his head, hurt slipping into confusion.
"Call me a name?"
"Yeah, like... like baby or sweetheart. All the nice names you give me. Except I wanted to give you a special name 'cause you always give me special names. And I chose prince because you're so handsome."
Steve's eyes widen. "Oh."
You nod rapidly.
"Yeah, handsome like a prince! I wish I could paint you. I'd paint you like those Renaissance masters. They'd love to have painted you, y'know? 'Cause you've got the nice jaw."
You trace his chin with one finger. Steve's gaze is indecipherable, so you keep talking.
"And you've also got those big, pretty eyes. You're this perfect mix of soft and strong, you know? You've got features that are really beautiful to look at, like your lips and nose. So I settled on prince, and you're my prince, andβ"
"Y/N."
You cringe.
"Yeah?"
Steve tilts your face to his and kisses you sweetly. You relax into his embrace, humming. He pulls back first, brushing your cheek with a knuckle.
"I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions," he says. "That'sβJesus, that's probably the best compliment I've ever received. Renaissance masters? How do you come up with this stuff? Totally blows my names out of the water."
You shake your head.
"No, it doesn't. I feel so warm when you call me those. And I just wanted to reciprocate."
"Baby, you do. Just by being you. You don't have to call me anything but Steve."
"I want to. I'll come up with a different one," you vow.
"No, no," he grins, nuzzling your cheek. "Keep it. I like being your prince."
