I’m terrified of how censored the internet is becoming.
The Uks Child safety act was one thing but the shitty demon that keeps coming back is KOSA. KOSA is an American act that keeps being denied but is coming back again and again. Rn it’s coming back for another round.
If it passes you’ll need to give government issued ID to access whatever is deemed “adult material”. This could be porn to political education to sex education to whatever the US government deems inappropriate.
Imagine having to access a website about transitioning and having to give your government ID so now it’s on record that you’ve accessed a trans website. If you want information on ongoing genocide your ID is on record, if you want information on ICE your ID is on record.
Sex education, abortion, mental health, queer online community- so much is at stake with this bill and similarly with other bills being passed around the world.
This also means the death of fandom spaces. Most fandom servers are under US Law and would have to comply with the censorship. I’m not American but I really really do worry because if KOSA passes it’ll be a blueprint for other countries.
Outside of KOSA we already are seeing just normal age verification on other sites with the introduction to AI. I just had to give fucking Roblox my passport in order for an AI to allow me to play horse life. Same with YouTube.
I dunno it’s crazy. If you’re American please do what you can to call your local lawmakers.
