Villain is terrified. Not because they were tortured—they had honestly expected something horrible to happen—but of Hero finding out their true identity. Hero rescued them when they were vulnerable and injured and took care of them, tending to their injuries and staying by their side to comfort them and Villain can’t lose that

Villain knows Hero would abandon them if they found out, they knew Hero would have left them to die if they’d known who they were at the start, and they know Hero would feel betrayed at being manipulated like this, but they can’t give up such sweet comfort.

Hero holds their hand and brushes their hair out of their face, placing a kiss on their forehead after replacing their old bandages with fresh ones. They give Villain hugs when they catch them frowning, and Villain is so starved for affection they can’t stop themselves

Even before the whumpening, Villain had no one they really trusted or relied on for emotional matters. It was all business, and whatever they felt, they kept locked away lest it be seen as weakness

When Hero finds out, Villain prepares for a fight. They are enemies after all...though Hero just looks upon them sadly and draws Villain into a hug, telling them they don’t hate them, that all the time they spent together was not meaningless, even if part of it was a lie
