A celebration
I think it is started on a younger day in senior high school. People kept telling me that high school day is a very memorable one. There's been several"first" on that particular time, first karaoke, first concert, first heartbreak, first insecurities, first kiss - you name it. There's been a hell of a journey to maturity. Therefore, I was really afraid that the memories will be faded. I wanna keep those moments so tight, I wanna remember them and cherish them so badly. I was afraid I was not living. So how I cope with it? I kept a journal (i wrote almost every day in that journal in three years of high school), I would engage in my friends' life-desperately to stay relevant, and I would celebrate every occasion as possible.
A Celebration.
In high school, one of the common celebrations is a birthday. Birthday is my favorite day because in the oceans of extraordinary friends, birthday, is the only day I feel great about myself. This childish thinking-the wanting of people to treat me differently on my birthday carried on until college day. So there was this moment I was really upset because my friends did not celebrate it the way I want to - or at least, the way I did it to them. I felt my anger is valid because they didn't reciprocally do the basic thing they have to do. But I realize it just my thinking, to felt this way about my birthday, and then I realize I was wrong, and I forgive them.
Another celebration is new year's eve. if you scrolling through my Tumblr timeline, I always celebrate new year, from 2012-2017. It is a warm and delightful occasion (literally warm because of fireworks and bbq, indeed). I always like the crowd, I love the countdown, I love the fireworks, I love the festivity. I want to share it with my closest friends or family.
Fast forward to the end of my journey in college day, I felt so happy about the graduation, because yeah you can guess it, all of the ceremonies, it's about celebration. Maybe I can guarantee that my uni has one of the most exciting graduation cultures than another campus in this country. I am very grateful to have good friends that very thoughtful and considerate during my graduation. It is certainly one of the best moments in my life.
And then when I getting old, there's another life-changing event: A Wedding. Again, it is truly one of the remarkable moments in my life. I've been involved directly with the preparation, to the detail I make a mood board with google slides so my vendors won't miss my direction at that moment haha. So there are no fatal discrepancies from the reality vs my expectation.
Reality vs expectation. After being a wife, It hit me that much that to make the marriage works, there are a lot to sacrifice, including my wanting, my needs to be special, my thirst for celebration. I don't celebrate a birthday, new year, and anniversary like before. Almost no cake, no new year crowd, no wedding anniversary. As much as I want it to be celebrated, there are several things that more important than this annual gimmick commemoration. How is my feeling? There is a part of me that not willing to let this go-because celebration is part of my life, part of me. But I think , this is again, a journey to maturity, where we should prioritize which one important or not, which one that I can let go of.
