Currently on this job I am, what is known in the industry as 'Design Monitor' where I pop into site to meet with the builder to ask any final queries for that stage or 'Milestone' if you have agreed these types of payments (we are not 'contract administrator' or a project manager on this one) to keep costs down. ⠀ ⠀ I love the frameless glass detail we designed for the triangle window to the rear. BEFORE / AFTER ⠀ ⠀ Head to our stories to see this weeks round up of 3 successful planning applications and how we managed to get away with a slightly sneaky application... more on stories ⠀ ⠀ After advising our client to do a pre application, we submitted this pre app and can you bloomin' believe it, the pre application planners advised that we go TALLER - I mean, when does this ever happen. Anyway, we happily obliged to fit in our 3 flats. ⠀ ⠀ This scheme has grown another floor to meet the neighbours (locally listed) gable tall party wall. I wanted to write a long post about #internationalwomensday, I wrote, re-wrote then I saw on @linkedin how there was a movement starting of #internationalbadassday and I thought “yep, I want to be part of that” ⠀ ⠀ As even though we are WOMEN, still doing the SAME job in construction, on the SAME day of the week as any other gender.. we’re still showing up doing the SAME job now that wasn’t always available to us and smashing it. I’m so excited to share with you our project of 2019! After meeting with my client Emily (@pinkhouseliving) when we met at @sohohouse in 2018 I knew this project was going to turn heads. After multiple ideas flowing, I was so happy when Emily chose the pink building (my wild card at the end of the presentation) and we went from there. Fast forward 6 months or so to the end of the planning and #partywall period we then started on the #details and the in depth #tender pack to find the builder (@weaver.build) We interviewed, decided on the fantastic builder who were great with our #twostage tender. We @loudarchitects were kept on as a design architect throughout the build and our design was retained which is hard when you often have to compromise on site. This #rainscreen is the first in the Uk as we have a 20mm terazzo panel (bespoke by @pinkhouseliving) slotting into the pre fabricated cladding with anodised aluminium to create a brass look for the shadow gaps (thank you AP for keeping them in rather than #valueengineering them!) It’s a huge triumph all round with the client at the top being the most important. The brief was achieved - Emily, her husband and family love the design and the bonus being the contractor (@andrewpennylondon ) structural engineer (@structuraldesignstudio ) fabricator, building control and Architect (us) all worked together in a collaborative team to achieve this potentially #global first design Thinking of renovating or extending or opening a commercial project and want something no one else has without running away with the budget? SELF CRITIQUE - The Istanbul tiles everywhere, reminds me of this bathroom i did last year. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ The brief was to introduce some playful #turkish references! I didn’t want to show this photo for a few reasons, I designed it to be brass (the builder ordered and installed the wrong sanitary-ware) and my client was happy with it so it stayed, the door and architrave wasn’t the ones I originally specified before it was #valueengineered - then I thought... why am I being so silly!
