Song at the beginning: The Yawning Grave by "Lord Huron"
_____
I tried to warn you when you were a child, I told you not to get lost in the wild, I sent you omens and all kinds of signs, I taught you melodies, poems, and rhymes, Oh, you fool, there are rules, I am coming for you You can run, but you can't escape, Darkness brings evil things, oh, the reckoning begins, You will open the yawning grave.
Screams…
That was all that Caius could focus on. He sat with his back against the wall, trying to focus on anything but your pain-filled screams…but he couldn’t. Caius hadn't looked at you in some time. He couldn’t.
I swore I would never hurt her.
It was a silly thought, and he knew it. He knew long ago, when Marcus told him of the bond, that he would have to change you at some point, but he had put that out of his mind. At the time, it didn’t matter. You were still young, and Caius saw you as nothing more than a mild annoyance.
Now, however, he wished that he had dealt with this in some way other than bottling it up and shoving it deep inside. This was why you tried to get him to talk about his emotions. He didn’t know how to handle anything other than anger. Now, he could have used some other type of coping skills, and the one person who could calm him down was a mess.
She tasted like heaven.
Caius was ashamed of the thought, but your blood had been the best he had ever tasted. The moment Caius had bitten you, a feeling of euphoria that he had never experienced before had overtaken him. He was so lost in the moment that he didn’t notice when you went limp in his arms. Now the sounds of your screams chased any feeling of euphoria away. He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice Aro step in. Aro and Marcus had heard the screams and came running. Both had an idea what was happening, but came anyway.
Aro looked at your changing body with sad eyes before turning his attention to Caius. In the thousands of years that he had known Caius, he had never seen him look scared. At the moment, he looked simply terrified. He sat not blinking, looking dead ahead.
“Better now than never.”
Aro commented before sitting down. Even though he hated seeing his darling niece in pain, he was also anxious to see the gift that you would possess. He was also relieved that you would soon be immortal. No longer would Aro have to fear for your life.
Marcus observed the scene with a frown. Like Aro, he had never seen Caius be unsure of himself. Caius always knew what he was doing and was totally confident in his decisions. Today, however, if he were able to stop the change and return you to your normal state, he would probably do so.
“It will be over soon.”
Aro added. He wasn’t saying it only to comfort himself but to comfort Caius as well.
“Not soon enough.”
Caius replied. His red eyes finally drifted to your face as your screams began to subside, leaving you in a silent state. Moving to kneel beside you, Caius placed a hand on your tear-stained cheek.
She's perfect.
Caius had thought that nearly every time he looked at you. Even in your disheveled state, you were the perfect being in his eyes.
Please wake up, darling.
Caius thought miserably as he placed a kiss on your hand. From his place at your side, Caius could see that you were changing. Any trace of pink had vanished from your skin, leaving you a perfect pale ivory.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
Caius commented in a soft tone. Aro and Marcus exchanged glances. Never in a thousand years had they heard Caius be this gentle with anyone. If Aro needed any more proof that you were Caius’ mate, this was it.
“You have your queen. I don’t have to tell you how important her safety is. She’ll rely on you for everything now.”
Caius glanced up, meeting Aro’s gaze.
“You’re still her uncle. She will still come to you as she always has.”
Aro shook his head. Like Caius, he didn’t like showing his vulnerable side, but now he couldn’t hide it. No longer were you to be the little girl who needed him to come check for monsters under your bed. Now you would be the woman, the queen, that Caius needed. He would be the one to care for you.
“It will be different.”
Caius’ eyes widened before giving Aro a smirk.
“Now don’t you be going soft on me! There can only be one designated basket case at the moment, and it’s my turn.”
The following hours passed slowly. Aro remained sitting like a perfect statue while Marcus paced the room. Caius hadn’t left his place at your side. He sat staring ahead until your hand twitched in his.
“Darling?”
Caius quickly knelt back down beside you while Aro and Marcus nearly tripped over each other to get to the other side of the bed.
“Y/n?”
Aro said your name in a soft voice as you made a pained expression.
“Why are the three of you yelling? Can’t a person die in peace?”
Caius and Marcus exchanged a confused expression before looking back at you.
“Darling, none of us are yelling.”
Caius replied in a calm tone. You shook your head.
“You’re all yelling in your minds. Can you turn it down to a dull roar?”
Aro’s eyes instantly lit up as he realized what was happening.
“Yes, I can hear you getting happy over there.”
You commented as Caius and Marcus exchanged looks. Aro had gotten exactly what he wanted. You were able to read minds, just like him. The only difference was that you weren’t having to touch him.
“It looks like you can leave the Cullen boy alone.”
Marcus replied. Caius was beginning to get annoyed.
“You can have your celebration later.”
He said, coldly. Turning his attention back to you, Caius stroked his hand over your cheek.
“It’s over, my darling.”
Your now red eyes slowly fluttered open. Everything was blurry before coming into sharp focus. Caius sat beside you, his eyes focused on your face while Aro and Marcus hovered in the background.
“Yeah, that wasn’t a good time to be had.”
You commented as Caius stood and gently lifted you onto his lap.
“If it were fun, more people would want to be doing it.”
He replied with a small smirk. You lay your head on his shoulder, still feeling rough.
“We’ll give you some time alone.”
Marcus commented while getting a still overly excited Aro out of the room.
“I’ll deal with him.”
Marcus commented before closing the door behind him.
Caius waited until the two of you were alone before speaking.
“You’re all mine now.”
You moved to wrap your arms around his neck and snuggled against his shoulder.
“Like I wasn’t before.”
Caius chuckled, stroking his hand through your hair.
“Now there will be no questioning it. I know you still feel rough. That will ease soon enough.”
A moment later, there was a knock on the door. Caius groaned before slipping out from underneath you. Answering the door, a still overly excited Aro stood on the other side.
“While you both still have your clothes on, I figured Y/n will need this.”
He motioned his head to the clearly clueless receptionist behind him. Caius nodded.
“Indeed. Now send her in and go away.”
Aro turned back to the totally “unaware of what was about to happen to her” receptionist.
“Go on in, dear. My niece needs to speak with you.”
The receptionist nodded as Caius moved aside.
“Get in.”
He said sharply before closing the door. Neither of you had bothered learning the receptionist’s name. They never lasted long anyway.
“What can I do for you, sir?”
She asked in a cheerful tone. Caius stood motionless a moment before yanking the helpless woman closer and sinking his teeth into her neck. Once he got her subdued enough, Caius dragged the woman over and placed her down in front of you.
“Go on, darling. You’ll feel much better.”
Caius waited while you leaned forward and bit down. The realization that you weren’t acting like a blood thirsty newborn made him frown. Caius had half expected you to try and bite him. Yet, here you sat acting like the perfect little angel.
Maybe having a newborn bride won’t be so difficult after all?
Caius thought before stepping forward.
“Alright, darling. That’s enough.”
Caius gently pulled you back. You gave him a small growl. Wrapping an arm around your waist, he prevented you from having another go at the dead woman.
“Don’t be naughty.”
Caius replied in his firm, cold tone. He stepped away to open the door where Felix stood.
“Get rid of this, will you?”
Caius moved aside while Felix stepped into the room to get rid of the receptionist’s dead body. Felix gave you a nod. He knew it would be time for you to be changed soon enough. Now he didn’t have to worry about someone killing you.
Once Felix was out of the room, Caius turned his attention back to you. You were beautiful before being changed, but now you are simply perfect.
Holding out a hand, Caius pulled you to your feet.
“I always thought you were beautiful, now I can’t take my eyes off of you.”
“Is it that good?”
You asked, standing on your tiptoes to kiss him softly. Caius closed his eyes, taking in the moment. This was the side no one but you saw.
“You have no idea. I believe we have a marriage to consummate.”
Stroking your hand from Caius’ cheek down his chest and stopping at his belt, you gently nipped at his bottom lip.
“Now we don’t have to worry about me getting tired,”
Caius chuckled before roughly turning your body to have a go at the zipper of your gown. This had been a thought that Caius had for some time. While he didn't mind stopping for you to rest and recover when you were a human, he longed for the day that he could make you finish, then shove back in and keep going. In the beginning, he had been hesitant to touch you as a human, but as the relationship progressed, he couldn’t stop himself from touching you.
“You’ve clearly put some thought into this.”
You nodded, feeling the zipper come down.
“I have a feeling that we will break the bed again.”
Caius shrugged. He smirked at the memory of Aro’s face when Caius had broken the last bed in the heat of passion.
“He will get over it. It isn’t like he’s done something like that before. Now let’s stop talking about him. Turn around and let me see this lingerie.”
Caius sat down on the chair and began buttoning his shirt as you turned. You were thankful that you had chosen the particular lingerie set. Heidi had steadily gotten you into the appeal of French lingerie. The way the dainty fabrics hugged your curves and pushed your breasts up finally made you feel like a woman and not a little girl.
Turning, you watched as Caius’ eyes widened and a small smile graced his lips.
“Who needs art when I have you. Come here, darling.”
You didn’t wait to be told twice. Taking your place on Caius’ lap, you placed a leg on either side of his body. Caius placed a hand on the small of your back to push your body closer.
“Now that’s better.”
Caius murmured, reaching up to slip the cups of your lace bra down. His eyes locked on your face for a moment before moving to gently suck each of your nipples. Your eyes closed, reaching up to tangle your fingers in his hair. Caius groaned, rocking his hips into you.
“Don’t make me wait.”
You said, softly. Caius quickly stood and carried you to the bed. You squealed the moment he dropped you on the bed. Caius quickly began to undress.
“Get rid of the lingerie before I rip it off of you.”
You didn’t wait to be told twice. Caius would rip the lingerie off. You had gone through so much lingerie that Caius had literally shredded during the heat of passion. Lying back against the pillows, you spread your legs as Caius took his place on top of you.
“Legs around my waist, love. No playing around tonight. I want what’s mine.”
Caius grabbed your thighs, hiking them over his waist. You didn’t expect much foreplay. There is plenty of time for that later. We both want the same thing. You thought with a smile as Caius pushed in. Both of you groaned as he began to move.
“There we go, darling. You wanted to feel connected. Here you go.”
An hour later, you lay on top of Caius while he lazily thrust into you. A knock on the door made Caius groan.
“What?”
He snapped, clearly annoyed. Aro’s voice came from the other side.
“I do not want to know what the two of you are doing, and don’t tell me, but we have a trial.”
Caius groaned before tapping your behind.
“Get off of me, woman. As much as I would love to stay here, I have business to attend to.”
You reluctantly did as you were told. Watching as Caius dressed himself, you pulled the sheets over your nude body. He turned back to you with a small smile.
“I’ll be back soon, provided this doesn’t take forever.”
Walking into the throne room and sitting down Caius ignored the way that Aro and Marcus were staring at him for a moment.
“What?”
He finally asked. Aro was the first to speak.
“You look like you were attacked.”
Caius quickly smoothed down his hair and rubbed his face for any signs of lipstick.
“Your niece is an animal. I’m certain we may need a new bed.”
It took all Caius had not to chuckle at the expression of horror on Aro’s face and how Marcus was frowning ahead as if saying how much he did not want to be there.
“Why do you say these things to me?”
Aro asked, his voice rising a few octaves.
“You asked.”
Caius replied in his normal, even cool tone. The three sat in silence for a moment. Aro was still making a disturbed expression while Marcus stared ahead, clearly wishing to be anywhere but here. He was very well aware that you had been sleeping with Caius for some time. That didn’t mean that he wanted ring-side seats to the aftermath of it. Aro sighed before turning to Caius.
“You know we are about to have a trial. We have a reputation to uphold. You sitting over there smiling like a fool isn’t helping. You’re supposed to be the scary one.”
“We don’t have to take breaks for her to rest now.”
Caius replied, wanting to antagonize Aro a little more before getting his act together. Marcus turned.
“I implore you to stop.”
Caius chucked, before resuming his cold, cool composure.
“Very well. What is today’s problem we are dealing with?”
Aro frowned.
“You are your dark humor, at the moment.”
“Y/n loves me and my humor.”
Marcus sighed.
“More immortal children.”
Caius instantly went serious. The rage and anger quickly returned with a vengeance.
“Again? Is it the Cullens this time?”
Aro shook his head.
“Unfortunately, no. I know that you are anxious to deal with them, but it wasn’t.”
Caius groaned.
“Well, let’s get this stupidity dealt with.”
(Meanwhile)
You lay in bed for a while until there was a knock at the door. Heidi stepped with a smile on her pretty face.
“Look at you! Y/n, you are simply breathtaking.”
You sat up and reached for the silk robe beside the bed.
“Always the flirt, Heidi.”
Heidi chuckled.
“Of course. You know I have to be, but I’m being serious. You look like a work of art. It’s fascinating how calm you are for a newborn. I was a disaster.”
You shrugged. While you didn’t feel like a menace to society, that didn’t mean that you felt exactly comfortable. You didn’t feel the urge to start slaughtering people, but if the opportunity presented itself, then you wouldn’t object.
“I’m feeling a lot of things, trust me.”
Heidi nodded, reaching out to cup your face. She was thankful Caius had finally changed you. From watching you grow up as a child to becoming your close friend, Heidi had grown overly attached.
“I know. It gets better. Oh, why I'm here, Caius asked me to take you to Paris to look for new lingerie. I think I know what’s going through his mind. Aro wants to see how your self-control is.”
You began to redress yourself.
“That’s exactly what’s going through his mind. Is it a good idea for me to go out amongst humans so soon?”
“Felix is going with us. You know Caius wouldn’t let you out without himself or someone he trusts. Felix will be able to get you in line if things get out of hand. Caius was going to take you himself but they have a rather large problem to deal with.”
You frowned. It had been a while since Caius had disappeared to the trial. Could he not have taken a few moments to tell you all of this himself?
“Oh?”
Heidi nodded as she moved to zip your black dress back up.
“Immortal children again.”
Heidi said this as it was just another day, but you knew the impact of immortal children. You had heard the stories.
“I’m sure the three of them are livid.”
You said. Heidi nodded, shivering. The last thing that she wanted was to get on either of the three kings' bad sides. She had seen enough not to consider stepping a toe out of line.
“It’s never a pretty sight. At least we don’t have to worry about you getting pregnant like the Cullen girl now.”
You only nodded. You had never put much thought into having a child.
“Indeed. That isn’t something I would even consider.”
Heidi nodded.
“Now you don’t have to. We should be going.”
A few hours later, you stood in the dressing room of a French lingerie shop as a few shop workers hovered, taking measurements. Looking dead ahead, you tried to stay focused on the task at hand while not breathing in the ladies' scents. It was taking all that you had not to reach out and drain each of them.
I’m kicking Aro in the shins when I get home for putting me through this.
You thought before glancing over to Heidi, who gave you a smirk. Heidi sat casually on a sofa, watching with a careful expression. She kept Felix right outside the door in case she needed to get him inside quickly.
“I think she needs a break.”
Heidi said. Both of the shop workers quickly left the room without further comment. You sighed.
“Thank you. I think my dear uncle is getting kicked once I get home.”
Heidi chuckled before guiding you outside, where Felix stood.
“You are doing remarkably well. Aro will be pleased. Just stand here and clear your senses.”
Felix gave you a reassuring smile.
“I promise it will get easier with time. They will always smell good, but you will learn not to envision killing all of them in seconds.”
Felix fought the urge to laugh at the expression on your face.
“Thanks, Felix. That is most reassuring. I’m still kicking Aro.”
From the shadows, a few feet away, Stefan and Vladimir stood watching.
“Look at that. The little angel has grown up. Figures she is with the blonde menace.”
Stefan said with a frown. From where he stood, he could smell Caius’ scent on you. Vladimir nodded.
“Like Aro would let her be with anyone else. The two of them can keep a hawkish watch on her for the rest of eternity. Now we know that the Volturi have, what the humans call, kryptonite after all.”
Stefan chuckled.
“Yes, indeed they do.”
