Hi Sans I just wanted to ask how did you feel at first and the end of your journey?
“Huh? Well, uh, I guess that’s a good question…”
“When I first climbed the mountain… I was very depressed. All my life, I’ve been sickly, and I couldn’t hold onto a job to save my life. It got to me, I felt worthless.”
Sans sighs, shoulders slouching. “I always called it laziness, but my depression made it hard to stay awake. I felt no reason to do anything. Nothing was worth it. So I got away from it all by sleeping away the days. If I couldn’t enjoy it, I’d just skip it by sleeping through it.”Sans takes a deep breath.
“Undyne and I had gotten into a fight. She said I couldn’t give up, I had to ‘do something with my life.’ But, that was the hardest thing she could ask of me. Paps came in, and I… well… I turned to him for some help…” Sans smiles sadly.
“I don’t blame him for agreeing with her. What I was doing wasn’t healthy, but it was all I could do. But she had fired me up by waking me up, so I stormed out and drove away. I drove to the one place no one would bother me. The ‘cursed’ Mount Ebott. No one who went there ever returned, so no one went there. I climbed it to get away and think. What she had said had really gotten to me, and I needed to get away before I hurt someone by saying something.”
Sans scratches the back of his skull. “Or myself. I was in a dark place. I climbed up and hid in a cave. I leaned against a bush, and pulled out my phone to hang up on Undyne, who was calling to scream at me to come back and face her like an adult… But I fell into the Underground, and landed on what I later discovered was Frisk’s resting place…” Sans laughs. “No wonder they were pissed when they woke up. I know I don’t like being woken up. But man, they were terrifying…”
Sans smiles. “So when I fell down, I didn’t have any ‘determination’ that monsters were supposed to have other than the bare minimum. I mean, I didn’t have much motivation to do anything. After all, when Dandy attacked… I felt as if he should kill me. But when Melissa saved me, and Frisk sarcastically revealed what monsters had done to humans, I slowly felt more determined.”
Sans shrugs. “But at the end of my journey? I felt like I had control over myself. Like a completely different person. I barely felt like Sans the Skeleton anymore. I mean, the Sans I knew would never fight two godly beings and win! He’d probably lay on the ground and tell himself that he’d rest in pieces.”, Sans chuckles. “But Melissa… Sofia… Jason… Apollo, Skylar, Chara, Albert, Celeste… Kennedy…” Sans grows solemn. “Jake… Frisk… They all needed me. I was the only way they could be free. I was determined to help them!” Sans grins. “And well, while I certainly didn’t do it alone… I did! I couldn’t be worthless if I saved all of humanity and fought off two gods!” Sans goes silent.
“And a very grumpy deer spirit. Man, they didn’t like me very much. Anyway, at the start, I felt like a potato sack, and at the end, I felt like a much better potato sack.”
Kennedy scoffs as she peeks in. “Sans, you are not a potato sack.”, she objects, and Sans rolls his eyelights. “Sure, Kennedy, sure I’m not.”, he sighs, and Kennedy smirks.“No, you are more of a… bag of bones!”, she giggles and Sans laughs with her. “Alright, you’ve got me there.”
Apollo storms in behind Kennedy. “DID SOMEONE SAY ‘BAG THE BONES’?!?!?”, he exclaimed, and Sans put his hands up and Apollo stomped over to him. “Woah- Apollo- WAIT- GAH!!!”, Sans yelped as Apollo shoved him into a cloth bag and heaved him over his shoulder.
“ALBERT!!! I GOT HIM!!! TOTALLY WILLINGLY!!!”, Apollo yelled, racing out of the room with his captive, Kennedy not far behind, leaving the computer alone.
A red, cloudy silhouette approaches the computer, closing the door. They glow a bit brighter as they reach to turn the camera off.
