God Richie is so dumb in front of cute boys, he tells the barista his name is “Richie with an R” and thinks he’s being smooth somehow because his brain is shut down and Eddie stares down at the empty coffee cup with a marker in his hand for like a whole minute after Richie steps aside, just frozen, like what the fuck does that mean???

ok I don’t get why so many fics are like “Richie says something obnoxious, Eddie insults him, Richie loves it” because like sure, it’s their love language, but you’re telling me that Richie was just completely cool? That 15-year-old Richie didn’t lay awake at night overthinking every word, every move, every facial expression, agonizing over it like “oh my god he hates me he actually hates me he thinks I’m ugly and stupid and annoying and he hates me” like every other teenager with a crush does? Richie has deep insecurities about what he means to/how he’s seen by other people and whether the people he loves actually care about him, and I don’t buy for a second that being insulted by the boy he’s in love with doesn’t make him want to fucking cry when he’s alone, at least when they’re young
