2022 Artist Wrap Up! This was so fun to complete!
(Please find the template here - it’s not mine! https://twitter.com/sabattons/status/1607416425030864900 )
This was a great year for art. I tried a lot of new things, drew a lot of characters, and I feel like I’ve improved a lot. This year, I feel like I “got to know” some new brushes and techniques better. I had “known” them before, but never really used them - so we were “reintroduced” and got along well! (That sounds like a crazy description but if you know, you know!)
This year, I also tried to replicate a style from Vox Machina! I’ve never tried to duplicate something from an animated show. I’ve only ever done “photo studies” with painting and realism. So this was REALLY neat to see the way the characters were created. There is a complexity to the simplicity of it all.
This year, I spent a lot of time with characters who made me happy, too. My two original characters Tango and Caerus came up quite often and I leaned into the joy they gave to me. I think that’s an important thing: draw what you love and what makes you happy. I want to do that even more in 2023.
I also learned that I really like drawing/trying to draw hot guys. Yeah. Yeah I’m gonna’ do that more. Why not?
Next year, I want to keep exploring things with art and open up a small commission store! More lighting effects, more dynamic poses, and more paintings! I also want to sketch more and complete practice drawings. I always get into the mindset that if I draw, it has to end up some elaborate, finished piece. But that’s not always true.
Cheers to art, my friends - may we continue to learn, grow, and find our souls staring back at us. <3
