Someone really looked at ballet and said âhmmâŚput knives in their feet and put em on ice.â

is 28°c/84°f too hot or too cold for you?
if you think 84°f is "too cold" then you are one of those organisms that lives exclusively in deep sea sulfur vents and I don't know how you got an internet connection but it's cool that you're here

My motherâs first language is Spanish, so sometimes when I talk to her in English, sheâll forget a word or two, but not a problem: sheâll just create new words, words no one else was brave enough to use. She took my little cousins to the mall once and this is what she told me when she got back. She was like âit was so cute, i took the kids on one of those⌠um⌠El Horse Tornado or whatever, you know what it is.â Iâm sorry, El Horse Tornado? Iâm gonna need you to elaborate. She was like âyou know what Iâm talking about, you put that attitude down. You put it down.â Okay, putting it down, sorry. She said âdonât try me, Iâll kick your ass.â And I was like âyou donât need to kick my ass. Just put me in a Horse Tornado Iâll be terrified.â âYou think youâre funny?â âMum how would you react if someone said that to you in Spanish? ÂĄTornado de caballos! That sounds horrifying.â She was like âok thatâs pretty funnyâ.
Merry-go-round by the way. It was a Merry-go-round.]
ok but this picture is a rendition of an actual historical event!
The duel was between Viennese royal Princess Pauline von Metternich and the Russian-born Countess Anastasia Kielmansegg.
They agreed to a duel in the summer of 1892 after a dispute over how the upcoming event -the Vienna Musical Theatrical Exhibition- would be decorated, on which they vehemently disagreed on flower arrangements.
Itâs been dubbed the first âemancipated duelâ as there were no men present. Two women played mediators to the duelists, the third was standing medic Baroness Lubinska.
It was Baroness Lubinska, a female medic from Warsaw, who suggested they remove their top garments as a safety precaution! She explained that when stabbed by a sword, small bits of clothing could enter the wound, making it more difficult to clean and putting one at higher risk of sepsis/infection even with minor injuries. Thus, the topless duel was born.
The conclusion? The Paul Mall Gazette (August 23, 1892) wrote:
As for who got final word on the flowers, no one can say with certainty!

Did you know that beetle wings used to be sewn onto dresses? Like, hundreds of them on each dress? It's equally creepy and beautiful.
oh my stars, anyone have pictures?
Something like this I believe!
thatâs one of the famous ones, a Lady Macbeth stage costume from 1888. apparently it wasnât uncommon in victorian fashion:
we should bring embroidery like this back (but w/ imitation wings). we should all be walking around with beads & wings, clanging
Bring this back in 2019
Thereâs a youtuber who does historical sewing and costumery who did this recently

OH MY BEETLEJUICEÂ
To everyone in the comments- No, the beetles arenât killed for their wings. These jewel beetles have short adult lives (2-3 weeks) and the wing casings are harvested after their death to ensure their conservation.
The Victorians did not invent beetlewing art. This species of beetle is indigenous to South and South East Asia where beetle wing art actually originated. Thailand, India, Myanmar, China, and Japan all practiced beetlewing art before the Victorians. Most notably, they have been used for centuries in clothing and art in the Thai royal court. Queen Sirikit has promoted beetlewing art in an effort to revive Thailandâs art and cultural history. Queen Sirikit has also forbidden the harvesting of the wing casings prior to the beetleâs death to protect them.
Unfortunately, it is hard to find old Thai art online but here are a couple of examples.
(Date and artist unknown. Thailand.)
(RenĂŠ Mancini, 1980.) Belongs to Queen Sirikit.

I just love how nobody talks about this movie and this epic scene. Â
I really do wonder what was that meeting like when discussing on having this scene added to this movie
How to CGI greatness probably
I remember seeing this in theaters and all of us were laughing well into the next scene
That character is voiced by Robin Williams in a movie that also has Ewan McGregor and Mel Brooks.
Robots was a pretty good Blue Sky movie and why did people sleep on this?
It was ahead of its time, I fear. (aka, because adults realized it was about how capitalism is toxic and kills innovation, they stopped promoting it.)
WAIT WHAT NOW I GOTTA SEE IT
Robots is truly a classic
