oh no.....i read the intention of the post wrong! i apologise for the misunderstanding....
as a person of colour who is also interested in the early modern period, i do not endorse racism or find it delightful to partake or consume in any way. i have read about the accounts of the atrocities that countless europeans had committed against other racial groups, including mine, and i do not endorse their abhorrent behaviour at all.
i can see that much of the legacy of racial classification and dehumanisation that has been established in much of the early modern period is still prevalent in society today. i don't think this system of exploitation is right at all; to make things clear, i wish we could live in a world where everybody loves each other regardless of race.
and i think it is common knowledge that many figures in history, especially the early modern period, were most likely racist. i do not want to glorify any of these figures, because many of them and the systems that they have perpetuated have committed countless atrocities and exploited countless people, many members of my family included. the thing is, we must of course acknowledge these atrocities that the people and systems perpetuated. only then can we choose to face the reality of this, or continue to blorbo out.
example: i'd say my historical blorbo is johan de witt. i think he is such because he is a smart man, good at math, well educated, a "good" grand pensionary who cleared up lots of debt, and also generally just a funny unc who died tragically. but if you look beyond the "meme" version of him you will come to understand that he was also a corrupt politician, removed the monarchy for him and the patrician classes gains, and had very questionable means of getting and distributing income. only then you will understand that the incident on the 20th of august 1672 was a reasonable act and not just a random tragedy. he is only my blorbo because he is what keeps me motivated in terms of maths study. i would not put him on a golden pedestal and deflect every primary source that outlines how corrupt his regime was with an "OH BUT HES SO UNC HE CANT DO SHIT" statement.
now. the tags. i only posted that because i was skimming through a bunch of posts (including this one) and i mainly read the bits about william iii and how active the history fandom was and didn't really process that this was not a "blorbo" post but rather a post that was meant to critique... its kinda lonely over here cuz i do want more history moots that i can talk with who share my interest.
what i meant by "this sounds fun" is that obsessing over your blorbos sounds super fun to do and also something i didnt get to experience much kinda. so i thought maybe this way i could get more moots. (context: all the characters i would consider my blorbos are mostly OCs set in historical periods, not necessarily real people because personally, i think a lot of the time it is not very good to idolise real historical figures and treat them as "babies" when they weren't)
when "blorbos" was stated, i thought that they would encompass the creation and sharing of OCs as well as historical figures. maybe expressing my desire to connect with similar people would lead to such in the end. i am saying that this seems to be the closest fandom (kinda) that i can partake in some of my interests about. i did not mean that partaking in racism sounds fun because it isn't and why the fuck would i be white supremacist when i am literally a person of colour myself.
