why does anyone working in education genuinely get more evil the younger the kids they work with are. i remember I had grade school teachers who would literally get irritated at EVERYTHING a kid could do, like I know they don't get paid much but as someone who has worked with kids and gotten paid probably less I never came into work thinking 'im gonna be evil as shit to these kids today'???
remember I had a teacher who would give me a stern talk every now and then for growling a lot, and y'know, I still do it, never grew out of it bc I wasn't just a little edgy warrior cats kid but autistic as hell, and only ONE teacher ever got annoyed, and it was that one from when I was seven or smth
one time we were also using those mini white boards to solve like math problems n shit and after I had finished mine I drew some dumbass cartoon thing on the board I don't even remember and some OTHER teacher got SO mad and banned me from using white boards for the rest of the day?? like I was DONE?? in american high school I drew all over those things whenever they had them out and NO ONE gave a shit
this is less direct but still irritating-- some OTHER time this kid lets his ass rip in near total silence while the teacher was reading and all the other kids just start shrieking and laughing... we were like six I think idk but like are you expecting a kid to be able to control how loud his farts are and when he lets it rip 😭😭??? and are you expecting six yr olds to keep completely straight faces while this happens in a moment a child would find comedic?? i mostly bring this up to say, I only found out later from a friend what happened, I was apparently the only kid who didn't laugh bc i don't think I heard it, or if I did I just didn't rlly process it (but also as a kid I never liked that 'gross' kinda humor, idk I just didn't necessarily grow up with it so maybe I fully processed it all and didn't care, who knows); well in any case this kid farting and everyone laughing irritated this teacher SO much that she instantly got up and gave ME something from her little prize box bc I didn't laugh, keep in mind I was still mostly confused at this point, but what a weird thing to reward a kid for not acting like a kid. i do recall she might have said I was mature for that but again, what a weird fucking thing to say abt a six year old, and what a dumb thing to get pressed about. i think she was even mad at the kid who farted. rarely have I seen teachers of older kids rlly even give a shit.
this one happened when I was like nine or ten but I had like acquaintances in other classes I would talk to outside occasionally and there was this one girl I knew who said 'ain't' all the time and I'm sure y'all know abt this but there would be teachers outside who would get SO mad, literally all huffy and rolling their eyes, then go on and say 'well ain't isn't really a word is it' or smth like that, like she would ask a question sometimes to these big ass white men or grown white ladies with beef with little brown girls for some reason, and they just wouldn't answer and only repeat the same stupid shit.
on that topic, I'm sure much of this could have been pinned down to like racism or ableism or whatever, at the time, they were all sorts of awful, I obv just wouldn't have understood this. but it just consistently shocks me how growing little vulnerable children get the worst teachers and the worst guidance, how nobody bats an eye in these schools at how these kids are constantly belittled and mocked and bullied by THEIR OWN TEACHERS. like there is no reason to be THIS strict with LITERAL CHILDREN who ultimately, most of the time, don't understand why you're just being an asshole! I didn't understand what I did wrong when I growled bc she sure as shit didn't give me a good reason for it, I didn't understand what was wrong with drawing after I had finished with what I needed to do, I didnt understand why I was being rewarded and why that other kid was being punished, I didn't understand what was wrong with that 'ain't' word!!! maybe with older kids it'd make more sense to see this treatment with them even if I didn't agree with it, but LITTLE KIDS ??? you let older kids get away with some actually harmful shit but you can't give little kids an OUNCE of understanding? I just don't get it, WHY does it get meaner and harder and more frustrating and confusing the younger you are, when you're at an age where it doesn't make sense? all I knew was that it made me, at best, confused and irritated, and at worst, made me cry and had me rlly scared to honestly do?? anything at all?? does anyone see the problem with having little kids with developing brains in an environment like that??
