August 14th 2014 - our first ever conversation

July 6th, 2015 - we meet for the first time. 

I created this blog to archive and share the stories and memories of the most important friendship of my life, one that I hope can be relatable or will inspire others, and if you’re  reading this - thank you for taking an interest in our journey. 

Marta and I became friends when we started messaging each other on twitter due to our common interests at the time - the Divergent series and Taylor Swift. We became really close friends over the next few months, until one day she told me she was booking tickets for the Taylor Swift 1989 tour… we thought “oh wouldn’t it be the most amazing thing in the world if we could go together?” But there was only one problem. We live nine thousand miles apart. 

We never truly believed it could ever happen at first, it was really just wishful thinking - but it never left our minds. Even the prospect of meeting each other was so insane, too good to be true - but to go to the concert of our favourite artist in the world??? Beyond our WILDEST DREAMS (yes I did that on purpose).

But then came April 30th, 2015… after a long road of visualising this incredible idea as a reality, hunting for part time jobs to save up for plane tickets, discussing it at length with my parents… the stars aligned, and somehow, WE BOUGHT THE TICKETS. 

When the 5th of July - the day I stepped onto the plane - finally came, I could not stop shaking I was so excited. Every minute of the 24 hour journey felt like an eternity, and when I finally saw Marta standing by the airport doors, it was like everything I’d ever wanted in life just came together all at once. As soon as we met it was like we’d known each other forever. The next week we spent together was the best week of my life - we explored her home town, had a lot of starbucks (I mean, how can you not), went shopping, explored NEW YORK CITY (WHAATTT) and, most importantly…. went to the 1989 World Tour. I can’t even put into words how amazing it felt to have everything we’d been wishfully talking about come true right before my eyes - to this day I swear it was all just a dream. 

Saying goodbye at the end of that week was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do (I don’t think I’ve cried that much since), but we must be the luckiest people in the world, because she came to visit me for Christmas that same year. It was another magical week full of beach adventures, sunset chasing, city exploring, and becoming even closer friends. 

I can honestly say that my friendship with Marta is the best one I’ve ever had. Every single second we’ve ever spent together was full of such an amazing vibe, the kind you only think exists in movies - the kind you hope never ever ends, and stays engrained in your mind after it does. I know this sounds so cheesy, but we complete each other in a way - she’s adventurous and wild and brings me out of my comfort zone, and I’m stable and sound, an anchor she can always return to. 

I don’t know how we were lucky enough to meet, but I will forever be thankful that we did because she’s the little sister I never had, and we bring out the best in each other whenever we’re together. 

I guess the main things I’d like people to take away from this (if you’ve read this far, I appreciate it a lot), are that friendships don’t just have to happen with people you know at school or in your neighbourhood - you can meet people in so many ways, and our friendship is an example that making friends on the internet isn’t always dangerous or untrustworthy. Yes, the distance is hard to deal with, but you know what? Every time we see each other its like we never left, and our limited time together means that we can make every second count. 

Another thing is - don’t. give. up. If you had told me two years ago that I would meet my internet friend twice and go to the 1989 tour with her, it would’ve sounded so ridiculous I would’ve laughed in your face. NEVER disregard a wish just because it seems too unlikely - believe with all your might that in can happen, work towards it, and you’ll be surprised what happens.
