It was almost a vacation, hunting something as simple as venison and other various meats for the nearby town. He took his time, wandering and following and watching and appreciating the nature of his surroundings. It was serene, but he was here to deal death, and a deer he’d been trailing caught his eye in a clearing, grazing on the grass, unwary of its danger.

Quite so. The sudden screech startles both the deer and the hunter. Talyn was only halfway to reaching for his bow when a dark figure crashes into the unsuspecting deer. Its life was over in an instant with a sickening crunch and Talyn was suddenly grateful that he was currently hidden in the foliage. 

“What the f-” 

He quickly silences the stunned mutter, lowering his head in the shadows and keeping his eyes on what seemed to be his new quarry. Quietly, he pulls an arrow from a quiver and nocks the arrow as slowly as possible, keeping his eyes locked on the creature. 

Turns out this hunting trip would be a little more interesting than he originally intended. Talyn inhales slowly, stills, and releases the arrow-

     when the arrow pierced its flesh, it screeched. pain was, of course, a very mortal concept-- one they indulged in as one would an idle hobby. their reaction was half theatrics, and half surprise. surprise was the closest they could come to it.

andlát coiled, hunched over the body of the deer the way a wolf would, curled protectively from bowed head to curved tail. the arrow protruded out of their flank, but the attention was taken away from it by the large gash along their stomach, their entrails catching on elongated rib-bones. the sheer contrast between the dark black-red blood compared to the bright crimson along their mouth was obvious, although it looked wrong glinting off the face of another deer.

yes, even an abomination such as itself could appreciate the beauty of the rustic reds to browns around them. even the pathways winding through the woods were decorated with a collage of yellow-green-orange leaves, with small piles gathering where the land dipped down.

the peaceful scenery was broken, however, with a feral screech.

          “ 𝚂𝙲𝚁𝙴𝙴𝙴𝙴𝙴—! ”

and then suddenly, a body barreled into the body of a deer-- one that was just in a hunter’s sight.
