the knee-jerk reaction to most things that threaten them is violence -- this being because of their past life yes, but also because they were raised by a dremora ( @rebelablaze ) during a key point of development in their life ( ages 13 to 17 ).

Forgive me, Hortator, for not properly quaking in my boots.” The assassin is unaffected by the display before her, instead responding with a devil’s grin. Hostility was expected, after all; her associates had dogged the Nerevarine to no end. As the other’s hand drifts nearer to their weapon, hers remain far from any of her own, unbothered by the threat curtained by the Nerevarine’s behavior. She approached them with a disturbing amount of ease, inching closer with slow, swaying steps.

          “No need to be so defensive. Defensiveness is best reserved for the fearful, and you have nothing to fear from me.” Did they? There was a reason that the Dark Brotherhood would dare send a lone agent after so many others had been slain at the Nerevarine’s hand. Daeris was no Nerevarine, but she was, well, far less killable than the others. “I would not presume to demand anything of you. I’ve merely come so that we may find an alternative that we both find agreeable. Surely a chance at harmony is worth a civil discussion, at the least?”

𝙼𝙾𝚄𝚁𝙽𝙷𝙾𝙻𝙳 𝚆𝙰𝚂 𝙰 𝙱𝙴𝙰𝚄𝚃𝙸𝙵𝚄𝙻 𝙲𝙸𝚃𝚈, but the beauty that was there was sullied by the filth that dwelled beneath it. somehow despite all the bodies that had fallen by their hand, vane had the feeling that it wasn’t quite the end. this particular assassin’s timing was convenient; a night-time visit just before their plan to siege the 𝚋𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚘𝚏 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚋𝚎𝚊𝚜𝚝. the calm before the storm, perhaps, but they were just surprised there wasn’t already a dagger to their neck.

people know vane there, though usually not personally, with the exception of the first councillor and a few other long-standing citizens. vane themselves is an enigmatic, cloaked, masked figure that nobody (nobody recent) really knows anything about. all the denizens of raven rock really know is that morvayn meets with them and regards them with a large amount of respect.

the hlaalu problem is already dealt with. long before it even became a problem, actually. intimidated by the hortator’s continued presence, they steer clear of raven rock.
