I love everything about this scene.

Danny looking around to see if Chim is close before saying "you miss me, don't you?". He knows this isn't a normal police partners behavior, this is straight up flirting.

mcgarrett. you got a visitor.

GIF 1: Steve lazes back on his elbow with the phone to his ear, his eyes dropping down somewhere on Danny's neck. His smile widens as he looks back at Danny, seemingly laughing to himself as he looks back up, amused.

GIF 2: Danny watches Steve incredulously, spreading his free hand out in a confused gesture as he asks, "Why are you smiling at me?"

GIF 3: Steve smiling, looking at Danny through hooded eyes as he says, "You're not wearing a tie, it suits you." He glances back down to Danny's open collar before smirking back at him.

The first:

Two characters who would literally do anything for each other.

Destroy the world, break the law, betray their nation, their beliefs, everything they've stood for throughout the series…

But “they're just friends.”

And then you get called dramatic for thinking there's something more because “men can have deep friendships too.”

Sure.

Normal deep friendships where someone betrays their entire moral compass for a single person.

Totally casual (you'd do that for someone you barely know, sure…).

And then there's the second type of ship:

The characters barely speak to each other.

Sometimes they don't even like each other.

Or they were enemies.

Or they have like four scenes together in the entire series.

But there's symbolism.

Colors, planets, parallels, glances, dynamics, specific lines…

And somehow you end up surviving with edits, two-hour analyses, and fanfics at 3 a.m. The morning
