Maybe I'm mistaken but it feels like these days in the tumblr therian community its much more common to be 0% human.
Feel like a bit of an outsider now. Somecreature posted a more poetic version of this sentiment a few days ago: something like too beastly to be human, too human to be beast.
I think the reason my balance is so bad is because I'm missing my tail

"Therians are faking because most of them are dogs and cats!" You mean the most common & well-known & well-loved domesticated animals worldwide? Wow a species of animal that exists EVERYWHERE – and that most people think of in a positive light – has a lot of people identifying as it? I WONDER WHY!!!
Therians of all kinds of animals do exist, a lot of them just don't know or don't like their species yet! And obviously the animals that are widespread across the globe will have more therians of them!!

I wish therians were viewed as an actual identity instead of a joke or some kid on tiktok

“This term refers to those who feel as if they perceive or experience their species in a way that is both human and nonhuman at the same time.” (Original coining here.)

As different facets of alterhumanity gain more of the public eye with each passing year, the more I ask "Ok so, what are we going to Do sociopolitically. When are we going to organize and start advocating for ourselves". Because eventually that will be necessary, and "let's bury our heads in the sand and hope we become obscure again" isn't realistic in any way. We've gotta start organizing and teaming up with our allies (queer groups, neurodivergent groups, mad pride, etc.) that we are heavily intermixed with.
Therianthropy for example, for the longest time has relying on the niche nature of the concept while hoping that they'll always be forgotten about by the public eventually. They keep popping up though, and visibility has been a rising line on a graph, it's never once returned to the obscurity that it had in the 90s-early 00s. By now, a majority of information that (for lack of a better term) "normies" have about therians is all bullshit.
There was an attempt at alterhumans organizing one time in the form of AltH, but they're already defunct and have left nothing behind except "AltH" as a convenient acronym for "alterhuman". Outreach and advocacy just kind of died in the water before getting anywhere.
I've seen the argument "alterhumanity faces no issues on its own, so advocate for other things instead and it'll help us by proxy". On one hand, yes, their fight is our fight. At the exact same time, alterhumanity is its own thing, it doesn't only exist as the sum of other groups. Using nonhuman identity as an example, there are people calling therianthropy a psyop and also trans people believing that nonhuman identity is made up by transphobes and not real. "Let's go along with it and wait for this to blow over" isn't an acceptable conclusion, we need to go "yes we are real, no will not be weaponized".
Our voices are important. Our identities deserve to be respected. Neither of the two will just fall into our laps, we have to work for it.
I still think it’s very sweet that two of my dear students identify as therians, shared their several theriotypes with me, and have showed me their quadrobics and vocals before. To keep in mind, my students are 11.
Meanwhile, I’m 23. I don’t do quadrobics, but I do enjoy yoga. I don’t have a mask or any “gear,” really. I’m pretty much just a cat, questioning feline cladotherian. Yet I also identify as a therian, particularly favoring the alterhuman label.
Big or small, young or old, I like the fact that so many of us get to experience this together. Being an alterhuman comes with its joys and hardships, but having a community really does make it all better.

People who say "species dysphoria isn't real/is making a mockery of trans people" are crazy to me bc like. You DO realize that dysphoria isnt exclusively tied to gender right. You can be dysphoric about so many things.
It's a feeling of discomfort that tends to particularly be about one's self image. Of course there's gonna be individuals out there uncomfortable with the human body. I'm confident there's people who feel that way even outside of nonhuman/alterhuman spaces.
just saw a video by dannyphantomexe talking about 'human dysphoria' and how he kinda wishes he was a skeleton or a robot and so many ppl in the comments are like 'omg same I wish i was xyz' and there are probably so many ppl whod identify as therian or alterhuman or wtv if it wasn't seen as so cringe and childish
“b-but physical therians make the community look bad!!1!1!1!11!” “they aren’t real therians1!1!1!1!1”
They literally founded the community. They are just as valid as you. You’re hating on the roots of therianthropy and the community.
Heyyy if you don't like/support holotheres/physical nonhumans leave my account 💞💞💞

"your 20s are for going to parties and getting drunk" NO! your 20s are for discovering your alterhumanity <3
More people should really at least consider otherlinking to be a thing they themselves can do. The community is quiet and the tags tend to be overrun with crossposting, but I think it'd be a lot louder if people actually considered it as a genuine possibility a little more often. 'Linking is usually seen as an afterthought you tack onto the end of a list of alterhuman terms and not usually discussed too much more than that from what we can see. Which is sad because it really can be beneficial and it absolutely has a place in the broader alterhuman community.
You really want to be an animal, or your favourite character, but you know you're not? You can do that--you can just.. become them.
You have a hearttype but it feels kinda weird and it feels like you should have been that thing, but you're not? You could always 'link it if you're dysphoric about not being that thing.
You have something that was--or you thought was--a kintype, but now it's not, and you miss it? Just link it back into yourself.
You think [thing] is really cool and it'd be cool to be one? You can!
You want to incorporate an aesthetic of [thing] into your identity and it'd work best if you just became that thing? That's absolutely a thing you can do.
You think it'd be fun to identify as something other than what your body is? You can make that happen.
Being [thing] would help with something in your life? Go ahead, you can do that.
You can mold your own sense of self an identity however you see fit, and that's really cool. Honestly it comes across as a power move. You get to make your own self, no matter what came before it.
