They were taken on the first night they've played in Paris, in this venue I hate so much haha But the lights were awesome so even if the angle is quite the same, I managed to get some pretty good shoots!

I love Drenge, I discovered them last year at the Download Festival, and was more than happy to be able to photograph those chaps. Happyness was a discovery, but an awesome one! Their album is wonderful, I especially love the song Lofts... when I listen to it in the tube, it makes it more beautiful (yeah I know it's weird).

Here are my favorite shots, even though I found it hard to shoot something interesting as the girls were often behind their mic! I thought that the show would have been more lively (as it is a rock band, you know...), but I got disappointed, the girls were really static. Too bad, we'll see next time if they come back in France!

[Gallery update] Last week was the great return of coldrain​ in Paris (a band that I love shooting, you’ve probably noticed), and with nothing less than Papa Roach​! I was really happy to be able to shoot them again, and with a pit for photographers, FINALLY *praise the Lord*!

My joy didn’t last though, as apparently the photographers who were there didn’t know how to behave in a pit. That was just unreal, the majority of them was just rude and selfish, I hadn’t experienced that before, and it kind of disgusted me.

As a beginner, one of the first thing I did was finding on the net/in books “the rules” in the pit to respect the people who were with me. I didn’t want to be a bother. However, I was among the few who tried to respect those unspoken rules (but so obvious when you think about it, like not staying on the same spot all the time, not being glued to the stage all the time, don’t pushing people etc.) and struggled to get some decent shoots. I nearly regretted to not be in the crowd haha. Why am I writing this? Not to complain of course, life is life, I should be prepared to every situation and I learned a lot about this one. However, it has always been for me to respect my partners in crime. We’re all in the same boat, and even if being a photographer is a constant struggle, I don’t find this very fairplay to just don’t give a shit about the basic rules of concert photography.

I struggled A LOT in the crowd to manage to get some shoots (again, no pit for photographer, and the stage in that venue is very high), and I have to admit that at the beginning I was a bit desperate haha! At the end of the show, I managed to have some cool shoots, but honestly I should have done better than I did (and because of that stressful situation, I didn't fully enjoyed the show, which was completely crazy and awesome!). I don't have a telephoto zoom lens for the moment, only a 50mm f/1.8 prime lens, so here was the moment when I realised that this is really a need. I don't know what to choose between a 70-200mm and a 24-70mm (all f/2.8). The first one is a basic choice and one every photographer should have, but the 24-70mm would be of a better use as I'm shooting in smalll venues 80% of the time. That being said, I was also considering on buying other prime lenses (like a 85mm, and a 35mm). I don't know yet which way I'll take first. Anyway I hope that I'll be able to take picture of them again in the future (in a photopit please thanks) as their lightshow was completely mad, a real pleasure for as a photographer (as they told me, like a Christmas tree!). Rou just woke up from a nap, so he had a funny face. We were in a bit of a hurry so the setting is not perfect, but still, I’m happy about that band portrait!

HAPPY NEW YEAR ! 2014 was just an amazing for me (long post here, sorry!) I don’t know where to start, because there is so much to say … I started photography a long time ago, then I stopped because I lacked of time, and nearly forgot how much I loved it. Then, Fate plays its little game and put photography back in my life. At first, it was just a hobby, but step by step, I felt like there was something more between my camera and I. Some friends started to tell me that my pictures were really great, that they had something special. It could have stopped here you know, but then I shot coldrain in February. This was a turning point because for the first time, other people (professionals, artists) started to notice what I was doing, and told me that it was amazing. “Amazing” was quite a new word for me to describe what I was doing, and I started to think that maybe, this was what I was looking for. This little thing that makes you complete. I was in a key moment of my life, this moment when you don’t really know what is going to happen next and when you need to make big decisions in order to not get lost. I was encouraged by my best friends, even my mother told me “do what you want to do, the most important thing is your happiness!” So I’ve made this big decision : stopping teaching (I was a teacher back then) and just throw myself into the nearly unknown world of music and photography. This was a hard one to make, but what happened next just confirmed me that it was the right decision. Since then, I feel blessed by all the compliments I’ve had from artists and professionals, it’s a dream coming true. Seeing that my work is appreciated and shared by all is the greatest reward, and I can’t thank enough all the people who believed in me in the first place : Paul (my editor at Journal du Japon), Anji (my best friend), Morgane, Suzanne, Masato from coldrain who don’t know how much his kind words and support mean to me, Mitchell and Iris from RAW POWER MANAGEMENT for trusting me. I was lucky enough to meet and take pictures of wonderful artists, sometimes so big that I felt like Fate was becoming a bit too kind with me haha! I also had the chance to speak with some awesome photographers, especially Matthias Hombauer Photography who helped and encouraged me A LOT throughout the year, and I can’t thank him enough for that. He (and his project) gave me the confidence I needed to really be at ease with myself and my choices. And finally, I wanted to thank YOU for your support. It means the world to me. Really. Now 2015 begins, I don’t know yet what it will be made of, but I hope that my adventure won’t stop anytime soon, and that I’ll be able to got further into my passion for music photography!

Little preview of my Canterbury photoset from their last show in Paris last November, taken for VisualMusic. The band has decided to stop its activities, and their last show is tonight in London. I feel really sad about that because it’s an amazing band (particularly in live). I wish them all the best for the future, but I honestly and selfishly hope that they’ll keep on making music and release some stuff …

I got the chance to shoot the band during their UK tour thanks to RAW POWER MANAGEMENT. I really like their music and was stoked to be able to do that. That was the first time I was shooting outside my country (France), so it was a bit impressive, but in the end, it all works the same way everywhere haha! I got trouble getting my photopass, but things got sorted out thanks to the kindness and professionalism of the management. SO the beginning of my adventure was a bit stressful, but I think I manage to shoot some cool things. This is not as perfect as I wanted it to be as I was under the “3 songs only” rule, but I tried my best to capture the dramatic energy of the band. It was a real pleasure to shoot them, there’s so much power and hope in their music, I really hope I’ll be able to do that again when they’ll come in France!
