thin  cream-coloured  linen  is  bunched  in  one  hand,  the  other in a loose fist as lee  prods  experimentally  the  large  merlot-coloured  graze  that  covers  the  bottom  half  of  river's  ribs.  there's  bruising  already  forming,  blossoming  outwards  in  shades  of  reds  &  purples,  &  river lifts his hand to  brush  his  thumb  over  them,  gaze  tightening  as  he  does  so.  ❛     fine,     ❜  he  lies,  surveying  the  injury  once  more  &  then  putting  his  shirt  back  down, waving lee's hand away.  ❛     it  looks  worse  than  it  feels.     ❜  river  breathes  in  a  couple  of  times,  noting  the  SHARP JAB  of  pain  that  spikes  when  he  breathes  a  little  too  deeply.  that's  fine,  he  can  work  with  that.  he's  schooled  his  expression  into  something  mild  when  feeling  worse.  at  least  it's  not  constant.  this  time  it's  only  when  he  BREATHES.
