đŞđŽđ˘đđ¤ đđđđđŹ:
mateo was the middle child of seven to a traditional family complete with mass and spending every other day down at the local church in their little village. as a young pup, there was something that never really fit right for a scrawny little girl from a second generation farming family. so it made sense that while his parents were busy trying to raise his siblings, mateo would run off into the woods and spend endless hours with his grandmother. it was her teaching that lead him realizing that maybe he wasnât supposed to be a girl like he was born but maybe he was a boy instead. so mateo shaved his hair and started picking up with the local boys. it felt like a natural progression to go from running in little packs to running in gangs in the city and eventually joining up with the largest wolf pack in the south; The Mayans. it was the first time he felt actually welcome anywhere and though part of him missed home and missed the old stories his grandmother would tell him, he was able to embrace who he was meant to be fully for the first time in his life.
he never expected to find himself surrounded by so much care. surgeries were hard and getting medicine was harder so being trans was a fight he took on every day. mateo still smuggled and stole for The Mayans, but he also would take just a little more to drop off at the local clinics and shelters. he still remembered how hard it was for him as a young pup and try as he might it still made his heart hurt to think of anyone - wolf or not - going through the same thing. after a while, his packmate told him about an opportunity to set up a trade line in a city full of supernaturals that no one had been able to establish before now due to not finding a way in or out of the city without something fucking up. so mateo took it as a personal challenge and spent the next ten years mapping out every in and out of the city. and try as he might, despite growing up a bit of a lone wolf and fitting in with his pack, it was the first time mateo really fell in love with a city. los santos was dirty and dangerous and loud and wild and every day he woke up falling more in love with the city.
mateo never thought much about being trans, he just knew he always was a boy. so it doesnât really factor into his day to day life aside from finding himself bristling and getting set off easier when he sees femme presenting people being treated poorly. heâs killed more than his fair share of people for treating kids badly too and being in los santos means heâs become something of a vigilante. some nights itâs quiet and heâs content to just go out for a drive on his bike and other nights heâll be getting drinks or smoking and see something that drives him to intervene. mostly he hangs around tsavos for this reason and because thereâs something about the seedier establishments that make him feel more comfortable than the nicer parts of greenhaven.
he is relatively approachable, and the few friends he has know how fiercely loyal and protective he can be at times. mateo naturally is blunt and forward even around strangers and but it takes time for him to open up even on a friendly platonic level. it's easier for him to treat people as disposable because of how many people heâs cared about that heâs had to bury along the way. part of him canât help but yearn for that simple life of settling down and maybe having a pup or two but he wouldnât trade his life for anything. mateo is quick to deflect romantic overtures mostly because heâs never trusted anyone to get close enough to try but eventually heâd like to give it a go and see what all the fuss is about.
mateo is damn near devout in his work and takes it seriously. but his âday jobâ in the underground marketplace doesnât leave him with much room for anything else in his life so most of the vendors he supplies are the closest thing to friends that he knows. heâs gotten good at fending off vampires and who knows what else is in the sewers so any free time he has is spent relaxing at the ugly duckling getting a drink or watching the dancers at the glass slipper to unwind.
work and his near endless hustle keeps mateo in a bit of a routine and even if he canât stand his job some days mateo still would wake up and do it day in and day out. thereâs no telling what or who heâll run into while roaming los santos and thatâs half the thrill of it. of course part of him is worried for what that means in the future should The Mayans come knocking and try to assert themselves but heâs sure thereâs no reason to worry. so until the time comes mateo is content to integrate himself further into the underground where heâs finally found himself at home. odds are if you canât find him there you can try following him back to his apartment in tsavos if you feel brave enough but mateo is known to carry at least six different weapons on him at any given time.
