The Chronicles of Elizabeth

Longest week of my entire life.. and don’t get me wrong, I love visiting my parents, but can’t they understand that I hate being kept until the very last minute? Nearly had to beat them away with my purse as I left, God..

        “I know the feeling.” She chuckled as she heard the blonde talk. “My dad and brother are the same, once we are all on the same roof it’s like they never want me to leave.” 

I got called rude and foul-mouthed by an old lady that was being debriefed about murdering her own husband with an axe to the head. I mean… Fuck me, you’re cuffed to a fucking chair about to get arrested for murder and I’m rude?

        Elizabeth stared dumbfounded about what the lady said. Had she heard correctly? Cleary from the expression of the other’s face, she had. “People are the most curious thing in the world, especially the stupid ones. It’s kind of disturbing to think that, that was the sperm that won.”

“Awe, this song is awesome! You gotta hear it.”

        “Really? Okay, I’ll take a listen, just because you look pretty convincing.” She joked before leaning in to hear said song.

Miles sat at one of the tables within the library,  The Elements of Moral Philosophy in hand, a title he had been visiting the library a few times a week to read. He didn’t much care for taking books home, he had too many things he was already responsible for anyhow. He raised his eyes from his book when he saw a figure sit at his table. “Hello,” he started, a welcoming smile forming on his face. “How are you?”

        Elizabeth had the list of the books her professors wanted her to take a look at. It was quite the long one, therefore, it was to be a long day. No problem, she was in her element after all, surrounded by books. Getting all of her books in her arms, she carried them back to a table. She looked up startled, “Oh, hi.” A warm smile grace her features, “I’m well, thank you. How are you?”

Anastasia nodded as she heard Elizabeth talk about not being pregnant for a while and couldn’t help but think of the same for her and tried to not let her sadness of that thought come across her face. “I do get that, I would be the same way if my roommate was expecting. Babies scare me, they are just so tiny and I worry about everything.”

        “Right? Like everything about them is tiny. Tiny bodies, tiny hearts, tiny hugs, and their fingers and toes! I just paranoid I’m going to drop her, I can be very clumsy.” Came the reply from Elizabeth as she stared at Anastasia. She noticed a brief pause in her expression but didn’t comment on it. It was probably personal and she didn’t want to invade her space.”

“Oi! I am not a wanker!… You are.” He grinned, joking as well, “Oh thank god. No more turning back, this deal is set in stone. Yeah, pretty much, I saw old friends and stuff… Oh! And I learned how to play the guitar, you know? One of my friends started teaching me. I’m not great, but I’m making progress.” He nodded, “Good, I’m glad you’re well.” He smiled, pausing, “How am I now?… I don’t know really.” He shrugged, “Stuff happened when I got back.”

        “Whatever.” She replied back lamely, sticking out her tongue. “Really? Then now you have to teach me! It’s a cycle, plus it’s on my Bucket List so you can’t say no.” She tilted her head to the side, confused. “Stuff happened? What do you mean?”

“Hmm, probably not. But I mean, it’s not like a full person yet, I don’t know. Babies are weird. But hey, if you like them then good for you. You’re better than me.” Kelly added, a bit amused as she grinned over at the other. “It didn’t tell you anything about that?” She reiterated, furrowing her brows as she glanced down at the book. You would think that would be the number one thing the book would talk about. After all, in Kelly’s mind, if you were gonna deal with it crying for the next 18 years there had to be a shortcut or something. Who needed to learn about feeding and all that anyways, right? “Hey, you got a chuckle out of me, it wasn’t that bad.” Kelly added in between a light bit of laughter. “I’m not an expert by any means, but I’d say just pretend to leave. If they really think you’re leaving, they’re gonna shut up and follow you….though I guess that would be more for toddler not a baby…oops? Pat it’s back?”

        “I know what you mean. They are! I feel like if you look one in the eye for so long, they’ll see into your soul. Scary stuff. Plus they’re so tiny. Oh hey, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, I think they’re cute. But I don’t particularly like them. I don’t hate them, but it’s just weird. I am so not prepared for when Rosie’s baby comes.” She shook her hear at Kelly, knowing what was going through the mind of the other. After all those same thoughts passed through her mind. “Nope, I know it’s ridiculous. But they’re more into the mother sixth sense, and since I am clearly not the mother it’s telling me nothing.” Elizabeth let out a chuckle with her. “Yeah, I think that’d only work with toddlers.” She let out a full laugh at her last words. “I’ll keep that in mind. ‘In case of emergency: Pat back’.”

William chuckle. “No problem.” He told the girl. “Oh not much. Working with Raven. And working period. Also getting ready for College again.” He sighed. “I enjoyed not going.” Will frowned. “Aside from wanting to learn about kids, what else have you been doing?” William asked.

“Hey Lizzie,” Leo said smiling at the girl as she recognized him. “I get that, I have been a nervous wreck about it lately,” he said, trying to reassure her. “I think everyone fears them. I know I do, I think I will hurt it. But practice does help. If you ever want to come visit my friends, you are more than welcome.”

        “Well praise the Lord I’m not the only one.” She laughed lightly. “Exaclty! Me too, I think that with my clumsiness I’ll accidentally drop her. So, they’ve told me, goos because this book does not. Won’t that be kind of awkward? A stranger in their home just wanting to pick their baby?”

Allie gave a confused look and shook her head. “No. Mine decides to leave the complex without warning and then randomly come back.”

        “Oh.” Elizabeth remained quite for a few minutes, debating on what to say. “Did he at least have a good reason?”

“Only as little,” Tessa joked back while nudging her arm playfully. “It wasn’t my first but it was definitely the best. I got to meet my boyfriends family so that made it even better. Just talk to Jack though if you want to practice Portuguese.”

        She laughed, “That’s good! Oh, that’s insanely adorable. Oh, no I’d much rather do it with a person, who won’t make fun of me for it.” Elizabeth replied jokingly. 

“I went to Brazil for a family wedding” he said, “With Tessa, and we had a good time too. She also met my family too, and they accepted her in the tribe” he said with a laugh. “Nope, but I am practically a slave there. As well as the rest of the ones we work at the Tribune” he said with a sad laugh.

        “Brazil! How exciting! I’ve always wanted to go, it’s on my last of places to travel to.” She replied excitedly. “Aw, that’s so sweet. It’s so nice to hear that, I’m glad you too are going strong.” Elizabeth said happily, such a sappy romantic at heart. “That’s awful. How do you keep coping with him?”

“I am!” Kenzie nodded. “Nice to meet you. I’ve been in Chicago for two years, but I just moved into Lakeview.”

        “Likewise! Oh, that’s nice, I’ve been almost the same time here. But I’m from Virginia. How have the stated been treating you?”

“Oh you’re Rosie’s roommate! The one with the baby shower, I heard about it” he said with a nod before he listened carefully to what she said. “Hm, I see. Can I ask, do you feel like you want to avoid any sort of problem over the baby from you?” he asked as he tilted his head, “Well, for starters. If you want to work on your baby panic issue, you can’t do it with a book. But with a real baby” he said with a nod.

        “Yeah, I am! The baby shower was lovely!” She replied before laughing lightly. “What is this a therapy session? I don’t know? I just want to help her with the ‘baby stuff’ but every time I see a crying baby I want to run. Oh? That sounds like the intellectual thing to do.” But would she really do it?
