No it's fine it;s like fine that c!tommy's story is one of healing and growth no it's cool like I don't even care that Tommy is a character defined by loss and hardship who always found a way to keep going IT'S FINE that his epilogue is one of a boy who's now a young man, who's still hurting but is once again on the road to recovery, who's done so much growing up but still has some left to do. I DON'T EVEN CARE that this epilogue is one that tells us that he's still fighting for the little boy who's childhood was taken all those years ago. Fighting to be happier. And he may not be quite there yet, but he's getting there. He's getting there...

One of the reasons I've stayed in the dsmp fandom for so long is the huge amount of ao3 fics without romance. Going from dsmp to any other fandom on ao3 is crazy because while 90% of dsmp fics are centered around platonic relationships, most other fandoms seem to have 90% of their fics centered around a romantic one.

Like, in 2023, while only 18 of the top 100 relationships were platonic, 7 of those were dsmp. Even more, the top 2 most popular platonic relationships were dsmp. Then there's the fact that of the 44,000 total fics on ao3 with the "no romantic relationships" tag, 9000 of them have tommy in them. And most writers who write a story without romance don't even use that tag.

Even shows with canon aroace characters have way more romance on ao3; with hazbin hotel, alastor is shipped with someone in almost every single fic. With DBH, even though their relationship is friendly at worst and father-son at best, there are way more hank/connor fics than hank&connor fics. Lastly, I think it's funny how there are almost 500k harry potter fics and only 1000 of them have no romantic relations, which is an insane percentage compared to dsmp.

I don't know. Do you get what I'm saying? No other fandom (that I've found) does it like dsmp. And so while I understand why people have stopped writing them and have been deleting their fics, it does make me sad to lose all these found family and friendship fics that I've lived off of for so long.

ctommy is so interesting to me as a character because he’s a fascinating balance of dualities. he’s gentle and kind and loves so much and takes care of animals. and he’s also an annoying ass smelly teenager who laughs too loud and steals your stuff for fun. the tommy who picks boogers to chase you with and the tommy who carefully plants flowers are one and the same. i think this makes him a difficult character to get right bc if you sway too far in either direction you end up with a flat caricature. too soft and scared and affectionate and he’s been woobified. too mean and aggressive and uncaring and he’s been vilified. he has the patience to sew his own clothing but he’ll cut you in line without a thought. he has the compassion to care for vulnerable animals but he’ll also trip you and laugh when you fall. hes more complex than the typical ‘mean on the outside softy on the inside’ character because the brash outside isn’t just an act to hide his vulnerabilities. that’s also part of who he his. and it’s really hard to balance those aspects properly and i think that’s where a lot of c!tommy content struggles.

I’m having many thoughts about the DSMP finale.

I don’t think anything like DSMP will ever happen again, if I’m being perfectly honest. Nothing is ever going to come close to just how MASSIVE it was, and how momentous it’s all felt. Like over 100k people were tuning in to watch MCRP lore at some points, which is INSANE. And like the insane amount of love put into it by (most of) the people on it, and the fans. The fanart, fansongs, recreations of the server, animatics, everything really! Stuff like Sad-Ist’s animations, Derivakat’s songs based off the characters and events, and like!!! So much more!!!! And the work of the CCs!!!!! Stuff like Quackity’s Las Nevadas streams or BadBoyHalo’s Eggpire streams with their INSANELY high quality productions, with the former even having it’s own music??? That’s INSANE!!

And like, despite EVERYTHING. The Dream situatuon, the slow and uneventful downfall of the server, the Nuke ending. I still LOVE this server, and don’t see myself leaving it’s fandom ANYTIME soon. and I’ll probably love it for the rest of my life. It’s literally changed my life for the better. Introduced me to so many lovely people I never would’ve seen otherwise, made me improve my writing and my art, and literally got me through SO MANY tough times in my life. And it introduced me to so many content creators I never would’ve gotten into in the first place. It’s done so much for me, and has done so much for so many other people, and I don’t think that can be overlooked, because I doubt something like that is ever going to happen again.

Farewell, DSMP. Your Unfinished Symphony finally draws to a close.

man!!!! dsmp fucked so hard. the best way i can describe it is like. theres a lot of technically good media out there. that do things better or less chaotically or more thematically coherent that the dsmp. but dsmp feels so fucking sincere, like. it’s homemade, is the thing. it’s made by them, it’s made by us. it’s imperfect, it’s flawed, it’s honest. it goes beyond its medium and demands that you care. its genius comes from the fact that we’re consuming it together, watching it together, creating it together. it feels a lot like a homecooked family meal, is what i’m saying. love that shit <3
