They are trying to inhale the rebar out of sight so that stitchwraith doesn’t see them and stop them

Oh absolutely. They're trying to hide the devious crime of eating the broken rebar so that technically they're cleaning but they're also doing something Stitchwraith specifically told them not to do.

Stitchwraith notices he can’t find them and goes to see them devouring rebar

They just knock them out with the rebar. There is now a KO'd Stitchwraith in the ball pit while Blood Moon eats more rebar.

What’s kinda weirdly wholesome about this is that despite the prime opportunity to kill him, which they say they want to do, they don’t do anything while he’s knocked out because they absolutely enjoy the little dynamic they have living with stitchwraith.

They just don't want to be lectured for the rebar. Rebar-eating is more important than killing at the moment. They're just refusing to get lectured just yet, even though they will be later.
