“diet culture will demonize any food that isn’t “clean” but EVERY food can have a benefit for you
Diet Coke is somehow the only thing that stops my migraines, and it reminds me of my best friend. Cape Cod potato chips are my go to salty snack and I live 10 minutes from the factory, so they make me feel cool.
Food is more than fuel. It’s memories and satisfaction and tradition and home and culture.
There’s nothing evil about that.”

god i hate how normalized diet culture and shit like bmi and calories are. bmi is based on eugenics. calories are a measurement of how much energy something gives u and not at all of how much weight or fat ull gain. diets have been proven to be harmful and ultimately unhelpful in actually losing weight. fatness has been largely proven to not be inherently unhealthy and doesnt inherently cause health issues.
if anyone has more good links to add on then please do and if anyone knows more on this stuff than me then dont hesitate to correct me!
FOOD IS GOOD. FOOD IS GOOD. FOOD IS GOOD!! if you’re eating, ever, and even/especially if it’s hard, know that i am personally SO SO proud of you
The BMI was invented by Adolphe Quetelet, the 19th century statistician who invented phrenologist anthropometry. He wasn’t just a eugenicist, he was one of the founding fathers of racist pseudoscience. Please do not listen to anything he has to say about your body.
“And get this: While epidemiologists use BMI to calculate national obesity rates (nearly 35 percent for adults and 18 percent for kids), the distinctions can be arbitrary. In 1998, the National Institutes of Health lowered the overweight threshold from 27.8 to 25—branding roughly 29 million Americans as fat overnight—to match international guidelines. But critics noted that those guidelines were drafted in part by the International Obesity Task Force, whose two principal funders were companies making weight loss drugs.”

Body mass index is used to sell weight loss drugs, set insurance premiums, and counsel patients. There's just one little problem.
I always thought everyone knew this by like the early 2000s but instead I see more people than ever believing this stuff is real medical science
this shit sucks i wish i was having gay sex
The Crushing Weight of Not Knowing If There Is a Task

i love characters with an innate ability to just fucking survive
bestie you should be dead but you arent fucking how
I really cannot emphasize enough the mental health benefits of abandoning the idea that you're special.
This goes both ways, both "You don't have to do everything singlehanded" and "You're not uniquely awful."
This is something I came to grips with as part of years of recovering from PTSD and it was so, so important. Realizing that the worst thing in my life has also happened to so many other people was at first disappointing because I wanted to be special to give my suffering meaning. Then I realized that my suffering isn't what makes me special or interesting. And once I let go of needing to be special, I started paying attention to all the ways other people enrich my life and just became happier.
I came at this from the other side. I was the child prodigy who was constantly told how special and smart I was and how I had so much potential, and all it did was give me a crippling case of perfectionism since I was convinced that everyone was watching and judging me all the time. Being a pretty average adult has been freeing—I can suck at something and not feel like it’s the end of the world, because I know nobody gives a shit but me. Which means I’m much more able to learn new things than I was twenty years ago, when failing at something meant failing everyone who’d invested their time and energy in me.
It also means that I can approach things with humility instead of a compulsive need to be the smartest, specialest person in the room.
