Love is celebratory phone calls, texts, and messages as soon as the clock strikes 12am. It is also forehead kisses, soft touches, and warm words that transcend distance and physicality. Love is an intimate moment at 2am, hearing them whisper “I love you” and falling back asleep. Love is waking up to tornado sirens but the first thing you hear is “Happy birthday” despite the panic. Love is hearing it again in a much, calmer voice later on. I think my grandmother frying chicken, boiling a pot of greens on the stove, and mixing macaroni and cheese for me is love. Looove is loving myself enough to remember that I am loved.
