I have a long day of annotating spectra and desperately emailing my TAs ahead of me 💀 I actually enjoy annotating infrared spectra but not so much when I have 0 idea what the compound is supposed to be. On the upside I got this ergonomic mouse yesterday which helps a lot since the Apple mouse is really not very got comfortable to use for hours at a time!
08.01.21 / a refreshed workspace for the new year. i got a mini oil diffuser for my desk and i’m so excited to use it! what do you have planned for the weekend? i hope your week went well ♡
Anyone else still in almost entirely zoom based courses with the worst possible internet? 2021 student aesthetic is getting kicked off of zoom due to poor connection until you just give up👍🏼
I’m going to cry a lot this semester

I haven’t posted anything here for so long… this pandemic really messed up my life and brought up family problems, money problems, anyway, too many problems. Guess I’m figuring things out now. Oh well, yeah, moved my desk again to get it close to my bookshelf.
11.11.2020 | November is the worst month of the year, no doubts. I have, like, 6 finals to get done this month and, as if I don't have enough on my plate with uni and my writing, I decided to get back to producing stuff for youtube - mainly video essays, really. So, that's how I am right now, with research about the bury your gays trope in my head but writing about Aquiles journey 😔☕🌿✨
the leaves are turning pretty late this year and the 5cm of snow that fell on Friday isn’t pictured but wowww east coast autumn 🍂🎃
“I very proudly entered the forestry school as an 18-year-old and telling them that the reason that I wanted to study botany was because I wanted to know why asters and goldenrod looked so beautiful together. These are these amazing displays of this bright, chrome yellow and deep purple of New England aster, and they look stunning together. And the two plants so often intermingle rather than living apart from one another, and I wanted to know why that was. I thought that surely in the order and the harmony of the universe, there would be an explanation for why they looked so beautiful together. And I was told that that was not science, that if I was interested in beauty, I should go to art school. Which was really demoralizing as a freshman, but I came to understand that question wasn’t going to be answered by science, that science, as a way of knowing, explicitly sets aside our emotions, our aesthetic reactions to things. We have to analyze them as if they were just pure material, and not matter and spirit together. And, yes, as it turns out, there’s a very good biophysical explanation for why those plants grow together, so it’s a matter of aesthetics and it’s a matter of ecology. Those complimentary colors of purple and gold together, being opposites on the color wheel, they’re so vivid, they actually attract far more pollinators than if those two grew apart from one another. So each of those plants benefits by combining its beauty with the beauty of the other. And that’s a question that science can address, certainly, as well as artists. And I just think that “Why is the world so beautiful?” is a question that we all ought to be embracing.”

throwback to my first mineralogy lab at the beginning of last year ;-; my favourite part was when my friend, who is an incredibly smart business major, came in and asked me how we get an entire rock to fit underneath the microscope. as i was holding a slide with a plagioclase sample in my hand.
online university is just *hyperaware of how itchy I am in a zoom meeting* *opens an email and forgets to respond to it* *lack of focus* *lack of focus* *lack of focus* *headache from staring at a screen all day* *constantly snacking* *fantasizes about dropping out* *zero motivation because you need tangible in-person class time to feel like you’re in a course and right now this just feels made up* *misses campus* *loathing* *frequent bathroom breaks* *frustration bc my brain doesn’t like digital readings* *romanticizes last fall semester* *timing when to join the zoom class so you aren’t the only one in there with the prof but you aren’t too late* *cheats on quiz* *NaViGaTiNg UnCeRtAiN TiMeS*
If you could instantly be granted fluency in 5 languages—not taking away your existing language proficiency in any way, solely a gain—what 5 would you choose?
Stop buying from Muji.
It’s being reported that Muji uses cotton produced by Uyghur Muslims in Chinese concentration and labor camps, specifically in Xinjiang. Obviously, the atrocities being done to the Uyghur Muslims are horrific, and a company profiting off of said atrocities is disgusting.
I know Muji is wildly popular on studyblr, but I’m asking you to think about real humans being forced into labor camps. As an average citizen, we only have two ways of imposing our power: by voting and by being deliberate with our money. Do not give Muji your money.
Do not support Muji. Do not support concentration camps. Do not support the violation of civil rights. Stay aware, read the news, and be a critical consumer.

Please correct me if I'm wrong
But a good alternative to Muji is Sostern Grene. It's a chain but is still a privatly ( & family! ) owned business that has a strict code of conduct for their suppliers with regards to health & safety, forced labor, child labor, environment, animal welfare & denial of factory inspections. Their code of conduct can be found here :
If anyone else has any other ethical alternatives for stationary please let me know!!!
STUDYBLRS! LET’S PHASE OUT HARMFUL BRANDS LIKE MUJI!
SHOP ETHICALLY OR LOCALLY/SMALL BUSINESS!!
Yoseka Stationary is one of my personal faves right now! I just ordered a journal from them and was sooo tempted by all the other stuff they have, ranging from classic Japanese brands to small artists. they’re based in NYC and I live on the west coast but my package got delivered pretty quickly. everything is so high quality, and they’re family-owned. check them out!
