When you first find that you would be able to earn money writing articles online, you, like me might have been seeing dollar signs. Getting started in the world of online blogging isnât as simple as some like to suggest it is, but, it isnât as hard as you could have imagined. Online sites are available to pay for nearly every level of writing, there is always another tier for you to advance to as you become faster, clearer, and better with your writing.
Find a site that works for you
The first step is to find a site that accepts the articles you write. You can start by becoming a freelance writer for online freelance sites like Odesk.com and Elance.com, you can try to sell your product for just 5 dollars on Fiverr.com or you can create a blog and gather a following around you before striking out for pay. Finding the solution that works best for you is the key to creating a stream of income to support your other ventures.
While some people replace their income within a month, itâs not common. Start small with a few jobs and build up a reputation for honest work. You may need to start much lower than you anticipated, writing for barely above a few dollars an article. While there is no shame in starting so low, be sure to demand a higher pay as your skill and experience increase. Learning write to markets
If youâre having trouble getting your writing accepted by editors itâs mostly likely not written for their market. Each editor has a specific audience theyâre trying to target. Sometimes itâs better to find the market you naturally write to, rather than changing your writing style to match the markets. Writing on the web is different than school or print. The content must be produced quickly and constantly updated to encourage viewers. If you want to write for the web you need to write clearly and concisely. Use as little words as possible when writing and organize your thoughts under headers and bulleted point. The general rule is if you can make a paragraph a bulleted list, do it. You also need to read up on what SEO is and how to write for it. Everyone today wants SEO content and their willing to pay more for it.
Building on your first success
After your first articles are published build on that success ask for recommendations or more work. Always ask for feedback and look into software to improve your grammar and writing. You may take a class and try to teach yourself new writing styles. You should also always be proud of the work you created. Be sure to show off the pieces youâre proud of and use them to secure more writing jobs.

My Thoughts On Conference Call Etiquette
I was prompted to write this blog post based on my last few experiences with some weekly conference calls. I would have to say that in the last few weeks, a recurring pattern has emerged as it relates to proper conference call etiquette. At one point I finally hung up the phone as there was no way to intelligently discern what was being said due to the background noise and personal conversations.
To stay positive in this post, I am going to list five tips on proper conference call etiquette. These are purely my opinion based on the huge amount of time that I spend on calls every day.
Conference Call Etiquette Tips
Dial Into The Conference Call Early â There is nothing worse than having someone show up late to a meeting and interrupt it. Make sure that you dial into a conference call at least five minutes early. Come prepared with materials to take notes, your coffee or other form of caffeine and anything else that you will need.
Announce Yourself â Make sure that you announce yourself if it is asked in the beginning of the meeting. If you arrive late, please remain silent unless the call is polled again for latecomers to announce themselves. If you arrive late, then you missed your chance and should not disrupt the call.
Mute Your Line â I canât stress this enough. Typically, most conference call systems these days allow you to enter *6 on your keypad to mute your line. If you have a mute button on your phone, that will suffice as well. Simply un-mute yourself as needed when you need to speak and then mute yourself again when finished.
Keep Background Noise To A Minimum â There is no worse conference call etiquette than hearing someone carrying on a conference call in the background, or worse, using the restroom while on a call. For goodness sakes, have respect for the others on the call. If you have other discussions or events happening around you, either refrain from being on the call or mute yourself as to ensure others that are actually on the call to participate can do so.
Stay On Topic â Often times, I hear others bring up topics that have no place in the call. Even if the conference call has no agenda, it usually has a purpose such as a live training call, updates and announcements, etc. This said, donât start discussing support issues if the topic is marketing advice. There is a proper time and place to discuss such items and it is disruptive to the leader of the call if he/she is taken off-topic to address a non-related discussion point.
There are a multitude of other bullets that I could bring up, but I would probably never finish this blog post. These address the majority of the common patterns that I see in the calls that I attend. Feel free to comment on this post if you have ideas or others to mention.

Ten Great Time Management Strategies for the Busy Marketer
Time is an Internet Marketers biggest enemy. Thatâs why in this article I will give you 10 effective time management techniques to use in internet marketing and in your daily life.
Figure out How You Spend Your Time while doing Internet Marketing. Keeping a schedule is a helpful way to find out exactly how you are using your time on the Internet or with offline marketing. Record this information somewhere as it will help you identify the most time-consuming tasks in your operation and help you decide not to invest your time in the tasks you have to carry out.
Start Setting some Priorities. To best manage your time you need to be able to differentiate from what is important, what is urgent and what can be done later. Make a âto doâ list to prioritize you activities. When making the list really think about what is more important. For example sending a quick reply to a $1000 a month client is more important than playing clash of clans for an hour.
Use a Planning Tool. There are many tools that you can use to remind you things. Find something to record your daily activities in, if you have a computer of phone, you can get alerts and they are fantastic. They never fail.
Get Organized. Clean up your desk area or your office. You wonât be able to work productively if your surroundings are muddled. Your environment affects your brain and if itâs unorganized you wonât be able to work to your maximum potential.
Schedule Your Time Appropriately. Scheduling way more than recording what you have to do, itâs also committing to doing these things. You really need to know yourself for this to work.
Start Getting Help from Other Marketers. You can go on Fiverr to buy all the help you need from talented marketers. These people are experts at what they do and you can also go on freelancing platforms like Elance to get all the help you need. You can even hire a virtual assistant to do all the mundane and boring work. If you donât have the money you can simply find another marketer to trade work with. My buddies and I help each other all the time, some guys help me do the SEO for their websites while I do the copywriting and article marketing for them. Itâs beautiful how easy it is to find someone to partner with on a forum like Warriorforum. Time management techniques like these are invaluable.
Stop Procrastinating. Youâve heard this a lot, but its true and I had to include it in the list.
Manage External Time Wasters. Your time is negatively affected by external factors imposed like other people and things like games. Eliminate those things quickly
Avoid Multi-tasking. University studies of recent have shown that multi-tasking doesnât save time at all. Surprisingly you waste 10% more time when youâre trying to do everything at once.
Stay Healthy. Youâre health is the most important thing. Exercise regularly and eat well to stay at your best. If you have health problems and canât control it lots of time will wasted in the hospital or elsewhere.

How the Cost of Acquisition can increase your net advertising
Many businesses, especially startups, focus on three key operation elements. They know they need the proper team, a service or product and a fit in the market. While these are all vitally important, another major cost of doing business is Customer Acquisition Cost, or CAC. Many businesses fail because they donât accurately understand simply what the cost of acquisition is in order for them to turn a prospect into a customer. It is essential to calculate the cost of customer acquisition before building a marketing plan, to make sure that those dollars are directed in the best way possible.
In addition to the CAC, you must also determine what each of those customers is worth to your business, in terms of the amount of revenue generated during your business relationship. This is referred to as Lifetime Value, or LTV, of the customer. For some businesses, this may be a single transaction, while for others there is the possibility of a long relationship, with multiple transactions over a period of years.
For a business to be successful, the Cost Of Customer Acquisition needs to be significantly less than the Lifetime Value for that customer. It is obvious that your business is headed for failure if you are spending more on acquiring each customer than they generate in revenue.

How to Calculate Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC)
Computing CAC is relatively simple for established businesses. You take all of the costs for your marketing and sales program over a given period. This would include marketing budgets as well as salaries for all the staff in your sales and marketing departments. This number would then be divided by the number of new customers you were able to acquire over that same period.
As an example, if your costs for a given year were $50,000 and you acquired 500 new customers, the math is very straightforward:
$50,000 á 500 customers = $100 to acquire each customer
It is recommended that the CAC will be = > to 4 (Month Revenue Per Client)
How to Calculate Lifetime Value (LTV)
The LTV for each customer would be the amount of gross revenue you would expect from that customer over the course of your entire relationship. This amount would also need to take into account any costs for supporting your product or services, as well as the cost of goods sold. While this will obviously vary with each customer, any business should be able to track how much revenue they are generating versus how many customers are generating that revenue. The key here is to be able to track repeat business, and to know how much each customer averages over the lifetime of the relationship.
LTV = Margin r/[1+i-r (1+g)] â ACQ
Margin Product contribution margin r Retention rate i Discount rate (if any) g Growth rate of a client ACQ Cost of acquisition
Or for rough estimate and to keep it simple:
LTV = Net Profit / Number of clients over a period of time (usually 1 year)
Balancing Cost Of Customer Acquisition and LTV
At this point, comparing the two numbers will let you know how well your business is doing. If the cost of acquisition is $100 dollars to acquire a customer, an LTV of $1000 would be a good tradeoff. This is obviously a business destined to fail if each customer is only generating $25 in profit.
There are two ways to keep this relationship balanced favorably. First, increasing LTV will make each customer more valuable. Customer retention efforts can help create repeat customers through better support and marketing. The second way to change the balance would be to lower the CAC.
Lowering the CAC can happen in a number of ways. The most obvious would be to decrease the sales and marketing budget. While this might seem the easiest or most expeditious way to change the balance, it might not be effective. If you cut your marketing budget in half, and as a result you only get half the number of new customers, you havenât changed the CAC at all, for example:
$25,000 á 250 customers = $100 to acquire each customer
(Very common mistake)
A better approach would be to redirect the marketing dollars into areas where they are more effective. For example, if web advertising is highly productive, whereas print ads arenât generating much business, shifting the dollars may mean more new customers, and a lower acquisition cost:
$50,000 á 1000 customers = $50 to acquire each customer
(The shift many businesses are doing to improve CAC)
For a purely web based business, these numbers may gradually shift over time naturally. The same marketing budget may begin to reach more people, and thus result in many new customers, as the business grows and gains traction. The head count will need to grow along with the new customer base if a human touch is needed for each customer. In that case, the cost of customer acquisition might remain nearly stagnant.
So, how CAC is being calculated before you even accumulated data?
In most cases, CAC will be an important factor when you have an investor inquiring about your startup. Way before you are even accepting clients, they want to know your CAC, LTV and revenue, and the whole nine yards of the business projections. Even possible. Thatâs how?
First, letâs understand why they are asking for these numbers and why you as the business owners should be even more curious about this important information. The owner, the investor, and anybody else involved are all sharing at least one objective. They all want the business to succeed. SEO takes time to build and grow, but once that happens, increases in cost are minimal.
