Who else is listening to the soundtrack and score today? I'm only listening to the first 3 songs to not spoil the movie. So far "I Always Wanted A Brother" is my favorite.
I've seen a lot of hate from the upcoming new Lion King movie and I get it, it's the internet. I know a ton of die hard fans would have loved to see the new story done in the traditional 1994 movie. But that is not what we're getting. Personally, I loved the 2019 because it's different version of my favorite movie. More adult feeling and full of epic action! Seeing The Lion King on Broadway too helped with that.
So enjoy this nice digital fan art. Done in photoshop (my age is showing). I had fun looking at high res images from the original movie to color match even the line work. Yeah I got lazy and. copied the background or was I being efficient?
Can't wait see Mufasa! I'll probably be doing more art like this soon!
Finally some digital art. Here is a sneak peek.
🦁👑
🖤🧡
Mufasa trailer 2 has been out! 🎞️
Art planned to be done but not today. 👎
It's weird seeing Scar not scar. 👹
Also how ballsy is it of Disney to have a white lion with blue eyes say "there can be only one Lion King." ?! 🐾
That's an F you to Kimba if I've ever seen one. 🖕

Ever wonder what happened after they got on the ship? 😆
🔥💧🥰
Gahh!! Still not done but getting close. I want to at least post something each week even if it unfinished sketches.
So most of my Fridays will be Fan Art Fridays (furry art soon too). Here's a WIP of some more Elemental art coming soon. 😍🔥💧
Thank you to everyone who got me to 100 likes!
He's a good boy!
And there are a lot more straight lines in his design than I thought. ✍️✍️

Oops, it's been over a month since I've posted anything. 🫣 I'm still obsessed with these two that even though my story "The Months in Between" has ended I still end up sketching them from time to time. I'm planning a big Elemental illustration in the future and I'm itching to do another story! 😱 ❤️🔥🔥💧 but what?...
AND I got other fan art and fics in mind coming up. Like for fan fiction: The Lion King, Gargoyles, and a Digimon story.
As far as fan art, of course more Elemental, duhh. I've also being looking at some old Balto model sheet files I saved 🤔🐺? Other animal art in the anthropomorphic style if you will 😜.
Idk maybe I'll do a pull or something of a fandom that I like on what to draw/write next. Either way I'll be working on something each week but it will be quite a while before I post something nice and finished. Progress pics for sure though. I'm just having fun with this. OH and fancy full color digital art is coming soon too! 🎨 🤩

The Months in Between, Bonus story!
Takes place after Ember finishes up her internship. Her and Wade are moving back to Element City as home base before they start their traveling the world adventure. But something unexpected happens.
Wade is the first one to walk into the Fireplace after a long boat ride back to Element City.
"We're back everyone!"
"Wade! Yo yo yo!"
The usual suspects are there to greet Wade. Flarrietta and Flarry are behind the counter and Clod is stocking a shelf, he's cute little Fire girlfriend not too far behind him. Bernie comes out from the back of the Shop up the door to greet Wade.
"Welcome back! How was your trip?" Bernie then notices his daughter from behind Wade and his face grows concerned.
"Pretty rough actually." Wade takes a side step away from the door to let Ember in. Ember looks very seasick and exhaust from the boat ride over. It looks like she didn't get any sleep either. She covers her mouth, trying hard not to get sick inside the Shop in front of everyone.
Ember speaks weakly, "I think I ate a bad kol nut."
"We spent the majority of the time at the stern of the ship so Ember wouldn't melt the haul on accident." Wade gently rubs her back as Embers sleepily smiles up at him trying to ease his concern.
Bernie puts his arm around his daughter and offers her to go rest in her old room. "Come rest up. We'll make you some lava and twig soup to calm your stomach."
As Bernie and Ember come walking towards the staircase Cinder comes out from the hearth. "Sorry I was finishing up a read-" she pauses as she sees her sick daughter then runs up to her all concerned. "What happened?" Cinder notices an unusual smell and takes a soft sniff. Cinder's eyes grow wide and she quickly covers her month trying to hide in a gasp.
Bernie facing Ember doesn't see his wife's reaction as he explains, "She just ate a bad kol nut on the boat ride back. Sending her to bed to rest."
Ember notices her mother's reaction and looks confused. Her mother has never looked that concerned over a little cold.
Cinder frantically blinks and takes Ember in to her arm pushing her husband away trying to come up with an excuse."Why, uh? Don't you hang out with Wade while I take care of Ember. It doesn't take two of us to make some soup." She ends with a nervous chuckle. "Wade looks like he could use some company."
Bernie turns back to sees a depressed Wade standing by the door way about to go into a crying fit. He's worried about his Ember the most.
As Bernie looks at Wade, Cinder takes this opportunity to drag her daughter upstairs quickly. "Mom not so fast!"
Wade looks like he can burst at any moment as water is streaming down from his eyes. Bernie cautiously side steps over to Wade incase he needs to book it away from a watery explosion. With one arm Bernie cautiously reaches out to Wade and waves him over. "Come on let's go pray to the Blue Flame for Ember to feel better."
Wade sniffs and with a high pitched voice he barely says, "Okay."
As they walk over to the Blue Flame Wade says. "I know she's in good hands being home but I'm still really worried about her."
"Don't worry Wade. Her mother will take good care of her just like when she was little girl."
"SIT DOWN!" Cinder yells at her daughter.
Ember bounces a little to hard on her bed and has to get up to grab a cauldron before spewing her guts out. As she finishes throwing up Cinder tosses over a chain metal shawl, "Put this on, keep your flame hot, and stay put."
Cinder then stomps to the bathroom looking for something.
Ember is getting angry, "Geez mom what's with the attitude? Nice to see you too."
Ember carefully goes to lay down tiring to get any relief on her stomach only to be yelled at again.
"DON'T LAY ON YOUR BACK!"
"GAH!!" Ember sits up in a panic. This is not how she wanted her day to go.
Cinder still very angry stomps out of the bathroom with three of the same sticks in her hand. A scroll attached to the sticks. "Here take all three as the instructions say."
Before Ember can process what is going on Cinder forces the sticks into her hand and shoves her to the bathroom.
Ember is so confused and is angry. Turning weakly purple a bit. "Easy Mom! What is with you?"
"I warned you to be careful now take the sticks!"
Ember looks down at what those sticks are as she enters the bathroom, Her eyes grow wide. "Wait, is this a-?"
SLAM!
Cinder shuts the bathroom door on Ember. She crosses her arms with a, "Humph!" Cinder shakes her head in disappointment.
After quite a while the bathroom door slowly and quietly opens to a completely shocked Ember. At this time Cinder's attitude has completely changed from pissed off Mom to now a comforting and sympathetic one. As Cinder looks at her daughter she relaxes her body as a sign that her intuition was correct. She is sitting on Embers bed and pats her hand on it to invite her daughter to sit with her.
Ember slow walks over to the bed not making eye contact with her mother. As Ember sits down she stairs at the floor for a minute then finally whispers. "They all came back positive."
Cinder with some pride crosses her arms, "I thought so. I could easily smell it on you."
Ember starts panicking, "This, this can't be happening."
"Oh but it is."
"We're supposed to travel the world! And, and our careers! This is all happening way too fast. We're not even married yet."
Ember looks at her mom and Cinder nods at her in agreement. Ember then puts her head down on her lap and starts to cry.
Cinder hugs her daughter. "There, there. Your flame is going to be an emotional wreck for a while."
Ember through her tears, "I don't want Ashfa to boil Wade away."
Cinder chuckles, "Don't worry my daughter I would let him boil your true love."
Ember shoots her head up in a complete 180 now purple and mad, "Good because I'll be so angry at him if he does!"
Cinder looks impressed, "Oh you're my daughter alrighty I was this emotional when I found out I was going to have you."
Ember calms down looking exhausted. She hugs the caldron again just incase she needs it. "I'm not ready to tell Wade this yet. He's been going on for weeks how exciting he is to start traveling the world with me. This, this might be disappointing news."
Cinder pats her daughters arm then gets up pacing. A sad Ember watches her. Cinder thinks of an idea as she walks up to the door. "I'm going to call our doctor and get an appointment right away for you tomorrow morning. I'll tell Wade and your father that you are asleep and you are not to be disturb. So you can rest and think about what you are going to say to Wade tomorrow."
Ember is super grateful. "Oh, Thank you Ashka."
Cinder walks back over to her daughter smiles up at her taking a hold of her hands. "You and Wade are going to be great parents." Cinder then points to her nose and winks before walking back over to the door and closing it. Giving Ember time to rest and think.
Ember leans back on her log pillow looking up at the ceiling and soft dreamy smile forms on her face. Then a look of disgust as she throws up in the cauldron, again. It's going to be a long night.
Back downstairs in the Fireplace. Bernie and Wade are sitting at the table near the front of the Shop. Bernie looks calm as a candle knowing Ember is in good hands. Wade though has his arms crossed looking down at his drink. He is droopy and very worried. Bernie breaks up Wade's thoughts by striking up a conversation, "So Ember tells me you two are excited to start traveling soon?"
Wade slightly smiles at the distraction and relaxes his arms as he talks with Bernie. "Yeah my new job as a licensed therapist is remote for the most part. I'm part of a team and we get assigned different patients. Sometimes it's a group therapy session. And Ember can make glass anywhere and ship it anywhere. Plus the company is really excited to have her visit the other glass firm branches all over the world."
Bernie sarcastically and with a raised eyebrow, "Hmm, all that traveling around sounds like a lot of commitment for a couple just dating."
Wade grows a prideful smile but you can still tell he's worried because his eyebrows are frowning. He does a quick look around before he pulls out a small box. He slides the tiny box across the table to show Bernie. Bernie takes the box and opens it up. He seems unimpressed. "Hmm." Bernie closes the box and slides it back to Wade. Wade looks really worried about Bernies reaction as he takes back the box. Then Bernie finally looks up at Wade with a big smile and a two thumbs up.
Wade put his hand on his chest. "Oh Mr. Lumen, Please don't scare me like that."
Bernie laughs. "It's call a soft burn and please call me Bernie."
The both smile. Wade is loving that he is growing a better relationship with his future father in law. Bernie has no idea what that means to Wade. Not just about his love for Ember but the opportunity to have a dad again, someday.
Cinder has come down back to the Shop and walks over to the table. Wade spots her first and quickly gets up from his chair. "Hey! How's Ember doing? Can I see her?"
Cinder is trying to put on her best white. "No, she is finally asleep and shouldn't be disturbed. She looked so exhausted. I've never seen her flame so tired."
This wasn't helping Wade not to see her. Bernie looks a bit concerns too, he just thought it was a cold. Cinder takes a step closer to Wade. "We are taking her to the doctor first thing in the morning. Why don't you go see your mother you so can get a good night's rest too. I know she has missed you very much."
Wade sadly sighs and thinks that he won't get much sleep either. He also thinks he wouldn't be pushed away like this if he and Ember were married. Not that his future in-laws are being rude, they are just traditional. Still, not a great feeling to have your lover be at your side every morning for months on end only to have the harsh reality that back at home you got to be in separate rooms now. He's trying not to cry at the thought. But it does give him the confidence to get the ball rolling on this proposal. Wade tells Cinder, "Okay but I'll be back in the morning. Bernie, how about I treat you to breakfast while Ember's at the doctors?"
Cinder is surprised by this. First Wade's breakfast offer and he is calling Bernie by his first name? Bernie responses to Wade. "Uhh sure?"
Wade perks up a bit since he got there, "Great I'll see you in the morning but please if anything changes let me know. I want to be here for her."
"Of course." Cinder assures him.
Wade sadly waves goodbye as he steps out of the Shop.
Cinder eyes her husband, "What are you two hiding?"
Bernie turns toward his wife, "And what are you and Ember hiding?"
Cinder goes wide eyed for a split second then gets some composure, "I asked you first."
"AH YAHH! I'm too old for this! We'll just have to find out together eventually won't we?"
Cinder still suspicious crosses her arms and goes, "Sounds like a plan."
They both laugh then Bernie asks "Is Ember really okay?"
Cinder holds on to her husbands hand tight. You can tell by the smile on her face she really wants to tell her husband the joyous news. She knows very well that it's not her place and will leave that reveal for Ember. "We will know more after the doctor's visit tomorrow."
Exterior of Firetown. Wade walking up the stairs to the Wetro platform. He really doesn't feel like leaving her but respects her parents wishes. Ember is peaking out from the bottom of her bedroom window and she spots her Wade. Her shawl draped over her flame trying to hide herself. Wade takes a pause to look back at the Shop. As he does Ember ducks down to hide.
She then peak through the window to see Wade go to the top platform of the Wetro. Out of her site. She sits down on the floor with a heavy sigh and thinks this is so weird. She's never not been able to talk to Wade before. She feels like she has really screwed up. Just as she is starting to doubt herself she subconsciously rubs her belly. She looks down at her hand then gives her belly a hug. A flash back pops in her head.
Wade and Ember are back in their shared apartment they had at her internship. The pair are getting ready for bed as the snuggle with each other. Wade speaks first.
"You want to have six kids like Vinny's family did?"
"Geez that's a lot of kids. I don't think so maybe a family your size?"
"Pfft, you don't want to know the long list of crazy cousins I have."
Ember laughs. "You think it's possible for us to have kids?"
"We won't know till it's time to not take the bark anymore. If not we could adopt too."
Ember jokes, "You really want to be a Dad huh?"
Wade looks away at Ember deep in serious thought. "Wade?"
Wade smiles back at her. "It's getting late why don't we get some sleep?"
End of Ember's flashback. She opens her eyes still sitting on the floor by the window with her hand across her belly. "Sleep sounds like a good idea."
The next day Wade enters the Shop and Bernie is sitting at the same table by the window. "Good morning Wade. Ember and Cinder left a half hour ago for the doctors and Ember's flame looked better."
Wade smiles, "That's great. I got a text from Ember this morning saying she was feeling better." Wade then does a big yawn. Clearly he didn't sleep well at all worried about his Ember.
Bernie sees this and smiles. "Come, I know a cafe with stronger Lava Java then mine. Looks like you could use a pick me up."
Ember and Cinder are at the doctors. They are in an exam room waiting on test results. A worried Ember sitting on the exam table and her Mom in a chair next to her with her arms crossed.
The doctor finally comes in. She is fit looking Firish woman in her mid 40s. "Great news. Your results are back and you are 100% having a baby."
Cinder response, "Well duh. We knew that. We are more concerned on how Ember's health is doing?"
The Doctor looks surprised by Cinder and tells them. "Oh well you're about 8 weeks in and everything looks healthy and normal. Textbook perfect I might add. Your husband must so excited."
Ember shrinks. "Actually I'm not married yet."
Cinder grumpily adds, "And the father is Water."
The wide eyed doctor looks back and forth from Ember and Cinder. Then with a nervous smile says, "My receptionist has a contact for a good family councilor."
Both Cinder and Ember put there hands up, "Oh no we all get along, that is not necessary."
Ember then says softly "At least till my dad finds out." Ember and Cinder both nervously look up at the doctor.
The doctor's face softens, "Well then I feel like you are an open enough family to hear this." She rolls her chair over to sit over by Ember and puts her hand on hers. "Ember, You are in the perfect city to have your baby. We have seen an increase of mixed Elemental couples all trying for a family. Though admittedly you are my first Fire and Water couple. But like I said earlier everything is looking normal on my end. I'm going to refer you over to an Air doctor because your child will probably be Steam. I know Dr. Startus and she is wonderful to work with. She has done well with other Firish mothers and can handle the heat too."
Ember does a large exhale out. She is feeling so much better now that there seems to be a plan for the next year at least. But there is now so much to discuss with her Wade. Ember turns toward her mom. "I'm ready to tell Wade."
Cinder with a smile takes her daughters hand. "Then lets find your true love."
And before they leave Ember says "Thank you", to the doctor.
Wade and Bernie are in a Firish cafe. Bernie knows the owner and they are long time friends.
The owner ask, "Who's this?" Referring to Wade and jokes, "You aren't being kidnapped by Water are you?"
Bernie does a big laugh. Wade looks a bit nervous at the slight Elementalism but it's all in good fun as he is learning. Sometimes you can't take things so seriously with the Firish. Bernie then says something to his friend that surprises Wade. "He's my future son-in-law and please don't be offered if you see him water down your food. That's just how he like it."
The owner jokes, "Oh but he can handle your daughter just fine?"
Bernie and the owner laugh loudly again. The owner finishes his laughing fit and looks to Wade. "I get it, my Air daughter-in-law has to do the same thing."
Wade smiles and says, "Thank you."
The owner walks off by as he does a a friendly pat on Bernie's shoulder. Bernie looks down at his fire espresso and asks before taking a sip. "So Wade what did you want to talk to me about?"
Wade looks clearly nervous, "Well I wanted to ask you something big."
"If it about my blessing for you and Ember my answer is no." Bernie ends with a clever smile.
This throws Wade so far off. He is shocked, confuse and not sure how to respond to that. Especially since Bernie knows he wants to marry her, has shown him the ring, and say future son-in-law just a second ago. What gives? Bernie is having fun watching Wade's confusing trying to put the dots together but counting with his fingers. Wade clearly stunned blinking a few times to make sure he is not dreaming, and is slowing thinking about what is going to say. Wade takes a deep breath and says this quietly. "Okay is it because I'm Water?"
Bernie laughs again, slamming his hand on the table a couple of times, and finally tells Wade, "I'm sorry, Cinder's father did that to me I just had to keep the tradition going." Bernie ended with rubbing his eye from laughing so hard.
Wade nervously laughs and is still very confused, "Ha ha, What?"
"Now I will tell you what he said to me." Bernie clear his throat, "You will have my blessing as long as she says yes to your proposal." Bernie leans back and crosses his arm with a big smile on his face. It is too easy for him to mess with Wade.
Wade having just gone through this emotional roller coaster ride relaxes but then gets nervous again. Wade then rubs the back of his head, "So actually I thought I already had your blessing. Ha ha, ever since you were okay with us moving in together." Wade pauses with a smile but then slowly starts to look serious with a few blinks to adjust. "I invited you out to breakfast because I wanted to talk about something else."
Now it's Bernies turn to be surprised and confused as he watches Wade look more serious. "Okay well what is it?"
"I.. I haven't had a dad since I was 16 years old. Mean sure I have an older Brother who is married and I get advice from him sometimes." Wade takes a shaky deep breathe, "But it's not the same as getting, real fatherly advice. I. I really wish I listened to my dad more when I was younger and I really regret that." Wade takes a pause to put his finger to his brawl trying to keep his composure.
Bernie leans forward with his hands cupped in front of him. He is taking what Wade is saying seriously and it is also bringing back memories of him butting heads with his father. Especially about leaving Fire Land.
Emotional Wade continues "I really want to be a great husband and a father someday. I need to be and I'll take whatever advice you say. I really just want to have a dad in my life to go talk to about these things." By this time Wade has gone teary eyed and cries but these are serious tears.
Bernie takes a moment and compassionately speaks. "I never got along with my father. And I was always terrified that that would happen to me and my daughter."
Wade looks up with some guilt, thinking he could of been the divide causing that. Everything turned out well in the end but still. "I. I could never replace you Bernie. I of all people know that."
Bernie puts his hand up to stop Wade so he can continue. "I prayed and worked hard to make sure that never happened because I never got the support I needed from my father. And you coming in to her life has been quite the test for me."
Wade looks at Bernie and sniffs.
Bernie continues. "Wade, it okay for you to make your own decisions as a man that sometimes a father might not agree with. I had to figure that out on my own." Bernie takes a pause at remembering how then smiles up at him. "By having my heart in the right place. As long as your heart is in the right place you will also be fine. Your heart is with my daughter so I know it's in the best place it can be. But of course you can still ask me for anything. I am honored to help and I will alway be here for you and Ember."
Wade looks like he is about to explode with tears. Bernie adds to him as he takes out his umbrella, "You can go ahead and cry now." Wade whales loudly but Bernie just smiles with his umbrella up blocking Wade's tears from hitting him. Everyone at the cafe turns and looks concerned. Bernie just smiles and waves to everyone it's okay.
Exterior shot of the Fireplace in the afternoon. Back inside now Cinder and Ember walk into the Shop. Ember is looking much better but still isn't 100%. Bernie sitting at his table waves them over. As Ember and Cinder walk over to Bernie he get ups and holding both his hands out to his daughter. Ember takes his hands with a smile on her face. Bernie asks sincerely, "How are you feeling?"
"I'm doing better Ashfa. I'm sorry to have worried you."
Bernie waves one of his hands off like it's nothing. With his other hand still holding Ember's, he points her over to the basement as if to hand her off. "Wade is here and he wanted to show you something in the basement for some reason."
Ember glows bright, she lets go of her father's hand, and walks toward the basement. Cinder has a sneaking suspicion to what's going on as she goes to hug her husband. Bernie puts his arm around his wife as they both watch their daughter. Bernie then looks over at the hoard of Ripples who were hiding behind a shelf and waves them out. Cinder brightens up realizing that a proposal must be happening.
Down in the basement. Wade is looking up at the pipe he broke through nearly a year ago now. He reaches up and rubs his hand across the old crack. As Ember steps down the stairs she sees what he is doing and puts a hand on her chest smiling. Ember gets to the bottom and walks over to Wade. Wade recognizes the sound of her foot steps. Smiling he turns around to face her, "Can you believe this would ever happen to us? Meeting like this?"
Ember smiles and shrugs her shoulders. "Call it an act of God?" Ember walks up closer to Wade.
He reaches out to hug her being careful not to upset her stomach. He whispers to her, "How are you feeling?"
As she lays her head on his chest. "Better but not 100%." She pulls back a bit to look up at him. "I wanted to talk to you about traveling."
Wade pulls away letting go of Ember but still has a smile on his face. "Really because I wanted to talk to you about that too."
Ember watches Wade as he paces. She is confuse on how they are on the same subject. "Really?"
"See I'm not really interested in traveling anymore."
"Huhhh?" Ember thinking this might be too easy. But then has a slight panic thinking what if Wade isn't ready to be a dad? She has to tell him whether he is ready or not.
Wade stops pacing and is facing Ember looking her in the eye. "Yeah I'm not interest in traveling the world with my girlfriend."
A frighten and sad Ember holding her arms in close to the body says nearly in tears. "You're not?"
Wade smiles seeing he has her clearly off guard. He gets down on one knee. He looks up at her. "I'm more interest in traveling the world with my wife."
Ember gasps as Wade holds out the ring.
"Ember Lumen will you marry me?"
Ember pauses then responds, "I'm pregnant."
Wade was completely not expecting that and softly asks, "Wait? What?"
Right after he asks that, Uncle Harold has come partial down the stairs in a premature congratulations, and sees them in distress. They both look at Uncle Harold. Ember is shrinking in embarrassment and Wade has the same look on his face like the time he tried to hide from Bernie that he was an inspector.
Harold runs back up to the Shop and says in a panic. "Guys something is wrong. I think she said no."
They are all about to cry but then Cinder put her hands up and yells, "That is not what's going on."
Bernie steps forward "Well then what is going on?"
Brooke steps up too and suggests, "Let's give the kids their space." Then gives her brother a mad look and a stern voice, "Harold."
Bernie turns toward his wife. "Cinder what are you not telling us?"
Cinder takes her husbands hand and tells him. "You will know soon I promise." And she turns back to look over at the staircase with a worried look on her face.
Back down in the basement. Ember still looking at the stairs asks "Why is your Uncle here?"
"Are you really?"
Ember turns to look at Wade. He doesn't look happy or mad just serious. "Are you really pregnant?"
Ember being shy just nods her head at him yes. Wade stands up with a shocked look on his face. He drops the ring in his hand. You can see the wheels in his head turning as he is processing it all. Ember doesn't know what else to stay and just waits for his response. But after awhile she asks, "Wade?"
He finally response and looks at Ember with tears forming in his eyes. "I"m really going to be a dad?"
Ember still holding her arms in begins to smile and gets tears of her own too as she nods yes again and speaks "Yes."
Wade puts both his hands on his head in a panic. "Whoa! I! Uhh. This. This is. Wow."
Ember trying to guess his thoughts, "Unexpected?" She looks down embarrassed, "Unplanned."
Wade finally snaps back to reality, "Hold up, no not unplanned just early. Really early." Now releasing just how weird he has been, finally goes to comfort her holding her hands and then cupping her face too as she cries a bit. "Hey, hey I'm so sorry. I'm just in shock but I am really, REALLY happy about this."
Ember stops crying and smiles up at him. Wade starts to get excited hopping up and down and quietly cries, "I'm going to be a dad!" He goes to grab Ember but as he does he realizes he shouldn't be twirling her around with the morning sickness she is having. "WAHOO!- Oh wait I don't want to make you sick." Ending with his goofy smile as he gently puts her down.
That doesn't stop Ember from happily jumping into his arms though in a tight embrace. The couple both laugh. As they calm down they keep holding onto each other tight. Wade does a shaky exhale out and with tears whispering to her, "Thank you."
Ember then says, "it's a yes by the way."
Wade pulls back to look at her confused, "Yes?"
Ember gives him a wide eyed look like really? "Yes, to your proposal."
"Oh, right! Duhh." As he slaps his forehead with his palm. he turns around and crouches down looking for the ring he dropped. Ember is giggling at his silliness. "Found it!" As he slides the ring on her finger he says, "Here you go."
Ember then grabs his hand that just slide the ring on her finger and pulls it down to her belly. "And here you go."
Wade looks down at Ember's belly then back into Ember's eyes, "I love you so much."
"I love you too Wade."
The pair then share a kiss. Wade's hand is still on Ember's belly as she still has her ringed hand on top of his.
Wade and Ember finally come up the stairs to the Shop. Uncle Harold being premature again yells, "OH she has the ring on! She said YES!"
Everyone starts cheering loudly.
Wade and Ember are waving to get their families attention but they just think it's part of the celebration. Wade then with his hand cupping his jawline yells at the top of his lungs. "WE HAVE ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT!!!" That gets everyone to quiet down and look at the newly engaged couple.
Ember then turns and steps toward her father as she is speaking to him "But first, dad you have to promise me you won't hurt Wade."
Bernie shrugs at his daughter, "Relax your fiancé and I are good." Cinder has an unsure look on her face.
Wade steps up closer and says to Bernie. "Really because Ember's pregnant." Wade has a huge smile on his face with two thumbs up. All the Ripples gasp and start crying. Ember looks at her father's reaction.
Bernie glows big and yells at Wade, "WHAT!"
Cinder yells "WADE RUN!"
Clod sitting on a ladder takes a polaroid of the moment. Wade running for his life. Bernie chasing Wade. A purple Ember and Cinder chasing Bernie. In the end Bernie calmed down once he realized he couldn't catch Wade. Ember was very upset at her dad. Cinder was upset at Bernie because Ember shouldn't be getting worked up in her condition. The rest of the Ripples couldn't stop crying. It all worked out in the end.
Ember and Wade got married a month later and decided to have their baby in Element City before the three of them start traveling.
Wade had coffee with Bernie the next day to get new dad advice. It was a long talk.
The end.
Author's note: Got this idea from the original movie actually. Wade and Ember seen moving in together before a wedding and I thought what else can happen "traditional" out of order? That sparked the "Will you marry me? I'm pregnant." response. Not everything is an immediate joyous reaction and the unknown is full of anxiety. Love though is a very important foundation that can conquer any of life's challenges. <3
The Months in Between chapter 12
CHAPTER 12
Monday morning at Element City Hall. Wade in his shirt and tie strolls into the building. As he walks in the morning sun hit his watery body like as if he was with Ember's glowing light. He see this and smiles. You can tell his demeanor is calm and content as he sighs. Nothing can ruin his day because he had the best weekend of his life, so far. Wade says good morning at other workers passing by. He's on his way to a conference room just before a meeting with Gale. Wade enters into the room to see none other then River.
River sarcastically says to him, "Good morning bet you're so happy to see me."
Wade puts his bag on a chair and says this to her calmly, "Only if you are serious about doing a better job then me as an inspector." He then looks up at her with a sincere look, like he wants her to be better.
"Well you're in luck because I'm quitting."
"Really?" Wade is surprised.
River says from the heart, "Yep, I decided to move to the Ocean and be more in my element. The city is just too big for me." She then points to Wade. "And you Wade Ripple are the tall, handsome Water guy that always got away from me." She sighs.
Wade nervous laughs, "Ha ha. Wait what do you mean by that? I thought we hooked up at that party back in High School?
"I wish but instead you got drunk, cried, and passed out. Sure hope that Fire of yours knows what she is getting into." She crosses her arms and looks away. Sad she missed her chance with him.
Wade is just starring at her in shock. That means his first time was with Ember and not that his weekend wasn't any less amazing. It just means he actually got to do that with someone he loved first. A huge open month smile and tears form in his eyes. He's so happy that he picks River up in a bear hug as he cries and whales. "That is such great news!!" River is stunned and doesn't know what to say as Wade puts her down and backs up to leave. He is so distraught that he needs to get some air but he does manage to say this to her. "I wish you the best in the Ocean and I hope you find someone there. Everyone deserves to find their true love!" Next part he says in a high pitch voice. "Excuse me, I got to get some air." He then turns to leave, crying of course.
Out in the hall he runs into and through Gale literally. Knocks a bunch of paperwork out of her hands. It gets all wet too. "Agh! Really Ripple?" She says angrily.
Wade turns back around trying to get his composure, "Sorry, uh. I just found out that River is quitting." He says with his shoulders up and a few sniffs. He is trying to calm down a bit.
Gale and Wade grab the paperwork from off the floor as Gale speaks to him. "Agh I know I should of listened to you kid about the potential HR issues. She didn't take it well when I gave her the list of complaints from other Elements about her behavior. This doesn't effect your transfer out though. That approval already went through."
Wade is about to cry again as he hands some papers to Gale. "Really?"
"Hey calm down kid. Now if only we had a replacement for River?"
Wade takes a big sniff to stops his tears, "Actually, you know Jimmy in the mailing department? Well I've been teaching him somethings about inspecting and he is really eager to learn the job."
Gale all excited, "Excellent! You get on that right away."
Wade just as excited, "Already planned on it. We can start shoulder to shoulder on Wednesday."
"Why not tomorrow?" Then Gale quickly remembers, "Oh! That's right your personal day. Sorry kid."
Wade looks a bit uncomfortable, "It's okay.." then looks down all sad.
Tuesday morning. Allen is at the entrance of the job site Ember works at. Allen speaks to an Earth worker at the gate. Even though the site is almost done it's still dangerous to let anyone who is not a city employee in to just roam around. It's Ember's last week there. Helping out with the final touches. The Earth worker walks up to Ember, "There is some Water guy here to see you."
Ember thinking that it's her Wade happily goes up to the gate only to find Allen there. She is confused to see him and the immediately thinks something is wrong. "Hi Allen, how are you? Is everything okay."
"Well yeah, but no, It's complicated." He puts a hand on his head and sighs. Judging by Ember's confused look she doesn't have a clue what's going on today. He'll have to talk to his brother more about this one. "I'm here to ask a big favor. And I mean BIG. In fact I'm surprised Wade didn't already told you."
Ember still confused, "Okay, what's going on? Is Wade okay?"
Allen sighs again, "Today is the day our Dad passed. Wade's usually routine is he has the day to himself and we met at the beach at sunset to tell each other stories of our Dad. I'm guessing Wade didn't tell you because he sees how close you are with your dad and probably didn't want to burden you."
Ember says with passion as she flares up but not enough to harm Allen, "Yeah but I'm his girlfriend! I'm supposed to be there for him is bad times too." She shrinks a bit looking down at her hands together, "Do you think he doesn't trust me?"
Allen gives her a sympathetic look, "No Ember not at all. Our Dad's death was the hardest on Wade. If anything he is probably embarrassed because life has moved on with us as a family. My sons have a junior waveball game this evening and they wouldn't understand me missing it because they were not around when my Dad passed."
Ember gives an understanding smile. She then gently and carefully places her hand on his shoulder not to burn him and looks him in the eye to tell him. "Don't worry I promise to be there for Wade tonight."
Allen then jokes around with a big smile in his face, "Wow. My sons are right you are nice and warm."
Ember pulls back her hand to her side as they both laugh.
It's barely evening at the beach as the sun will begin to set soon. Wade looking sad is sitting on the ocean's edge with his feet in the water. It wasn't hard for Ember to find him. His water is refracting the sun's light so brightly that he sticks out like a sore thumb. She walks up to him from behind. He can feel her familiar warmth already and doesn't need to turn around to look at her. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath in, then speaks.
"My Dad was wrong about the ocean. He use to tell me nothing was bigger then it. That you can throw any emotion at it and it will take it." Ember sits next to him but just slightly farther back so her feet don't touch the water as she listens to his story. "We use to yell at the top of our lungs and listen to that sound dissipate into the calming sounds of the waves. But I found an emotion that I feel won't get lost, that it can go on forever and ever."
Ember puts her hand on his shoulder, "Yeah and what emotion is that?"
Wade just leans over from her touch, puts his head on top hers with a smile, and replies in almost a whisper. "My love for you."
Ember upon hearing this puts her arms around him and pulls him in tight in a hug. Wade has no idea what that means to her to hear him say what he just said. She wants to tell him but isn't sure this is the best time. Wade pulls back then admits. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you about today. I just didn't know how to tell you." Then he does a soft, sad, sarcastic chuckle resting his arms on his knees, "So much for not keeping secrets huh?"
Ember uses this as her chance. "Actually, I got a secret I've been keeping from you. Well sort of. We, or I, just haven't really said it out loud but I pretty sure you feel it too?" Curious Wade shifts his body in her direction and he lets her continue. Ember looks nervous but is dying to say what's been bottle up inside of her ever since Wade reconstituted in the hearth months ago. "Remember how I'm supposed to teach you about Firish traditions?"
Wade softly responds, "Yeah?"
Ember continues in a nervous ramble but she tires to slow down, "Well there is one about love. There is no word for it like Tìshók' and I've been kind of breaking some of these Firish tradition as of late but this one about Love is something I truly believe in." She looks up at him.
Wade can tell she is being serious and wants to help her calm her nerves. He shifts a bit closer so he is beside her and wraps his arm around her shoulder to comfort her. He whispers because they are so close, "Okay so what's the tradition?"
The physical contact helps Ember calm down a bit and sparks an idea to draw her point. "So you know how you didn't want to freak me out about telling me what your thought bubbles were?"
Wade rubs the back of his neck, "Ha, ha yeah but I'm glad that turned out very well for us." He wiggles his eyebrows flirtatiously. Not trying to be inappropriate but more of just to get his girlfriend to laugh off her nerves. It works.
Ember laughs and leans her head into his shoulder. Even though she is loving the closeness she has to say what she needs to say while looking him in the eye and pulls back to do so. "Well I meant what I said a few months ago back in the hearth." She nervously rambles again and eventually looks down away from his eyes in a yellow blush, "I. I don't know if you heard me over your tears raining off the ceiling."
Wade smiles, "That you want to explore the world with me and have me with you in your life forever?"
Ember smiles back and very nervously continues but tires to say her words more slowly, "And just like you were very nervous about getting physical with me, I am nervous about telling you how committed I am." Wade's eyes widen a bit. As she continues. "The Firish tradition is once you find your true love it's basically for life. I don't what's going to happen after my glass internship but one thing is for sure." She then leans into him and her beautiful light glows bright. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you Wade Ripple."
Wade is shocked and he pulls back to look Ember in the eye. He finds her smiling at him just like when they interlocked their hands for the first time. He then slowly starts form a big smile with a shaky exhale and his typical tears in his eyes too. He picks her up off the sand and twirls her around in a tight embrace. They are both laughing as Ember hugs him back as tightly as she can with tears in her eyes too. Knowing how he is feeling. He eventually puts her down but is still holding her tight. Through his tears he is able to tell her. "Oh Ember. I do feel the same way. I love you so much!"
Ember has her head firmly on his chest crying and says back, "I love you too."
Even with the bright sun setting behind them the light is no match to Ember's beautiful loving glow and with Wade so close, they case a prism of colors all around them.
Wade pulls back to tell her. "Thank you for making this day brighter for me. I'll never forget it."
Ember coyly then says to him, "So you want to mess around in the sand?"
Wade tilts his head like a confused puppy then gives a flirty smile at her in response.
Next scene they are a little farther back from the shoreline. Wade sitting up is right behind Ember in a spoon. His hands over on tops of hers as they both mess around with melted glass. Wade admits, "Not what I was thinking but still cool never the less."
Ember smiling with a roll of her eyes and a bit of sarcasm, "Oh sorry for disappointing you."
Wade laughs at her then gives her a soft kiss on the cheek from behind and rests his chin on her shoulder. "Nah you never disappoint."
He watches and feels her create another orb but instead of a vivisteria centered in it, it's the two of them dancing. Ember looks at him with a smile. "You're keeping this one."
"Technically in less then two weeks we get to keep both." He hears her laugh and then asks her, "What else do you want to make?"
Ember softly answers, "Our future together."
Wade with a smile puts his left arm out in front of her motions and says, "Check." Then closes his eyes and gives her a hug. Ember closes her eyes too and hugs him back.
It's the night before Wade and Ember leave for her glass internship. Ember and her parents invite Wade and his mom over for dinner. Allen is there too. Since the Lumen's kitchen is so small they makeshift a larger table in the living room. There is mix of Firish foods and these Water jelly treats that Brooke brought over, as well as some more champagne for her and Cinder to enjoy.
Bernie is relaxing and is the first to speak. "Ahh, it's so nice having most of the repairs finally done, even with the water flowing in Firetown." Ember wide eyed gives her father a quick kick of his chair and gives him a look back and forth to him and Wade's family. Bernie quietly asks, "Wha?" Then he realizing what Ember is trying to say. He brightly and loudly goes, "OH! SO! There won't be another flood again." He does a big smile like he did when he unbanned Wade from the store, hoping he didn't offend anyone.
Cinder helps out by saying, "I agree. It's nice having that Earth kid Clod get water from the Shop now. He's such a charming boy."
Wade and his family smile at this then Wade says, "And you'll be in good hands with Jimmy as your new city inspector. I'm glad that worked out along with my transfer." Wade takes a sip of his kol nut tea.
Ember tells Wade her surprise. "Speaking of work I got a surprise for you."
Wade lowers his mug, "Oh?"
Ember continues, "The welding job I did the past few months covered not only my travel expenses but yours and also our living expenses for the whole time I'm at my paid internship."
"WOW!" Wade goes, thinking that is an amazing opportunity to save for traveling the world... and maybe starting a family... He then looks around the room at everyone smiling at him. Trying to read the room he then says all confused. "Wait, I'm not going to quit my job. I may not like the work I'm doing but I, uhh, have something I'm saving up for."
"I'm not asking you to but it does give you options..."
Ember motions to Brooke, "You're enrolled at the local college there." Brooke then shrugs and leans back, "If that is something you might be interested in."
"There is also a therapist school in the area that can help you get certified." Allen leans back to continue, "If you want to connect with that option."
Bernie with his arms crossed and shrugging his shoulders as he says to Wade. "Either way you're going to be working hard at something." He ends with a smile.
Wade doesn't know what to say. He looks around at everyone in the room smiling at him. He is so humbled by this and finally speaks. "You guys... did all this... for me?"
Cinder points to her daughter, "Ember's idea."
Ember smiling takes a hold of Wade's hand on top of the table and shrugs her shoulder as she looks up at him. "I'd figure you helped me find my dream I want to help you find yours."
Wade emotionally exhales out, squeezing her hand back and softly tells her with a tear rolling down his cheek, "But you are my dream."
Ember brightly smiles back at him.
Bernie breaks the tender moment. He pushes away from the table and his chair loudly scraping across the floor. He gets up all excited bouncing up and down, waving his hands in the air to show Wade something. "OK! OK! One more surprise!" Bernie then takes Wade's mug from his hand and walks into the kitchen. Ember is confused and doesn't know what her dad is doing. Everyone can see Bernie walk over to the sink with his back to them. "I asked one of the city workers to help set this up for me." Bernie turns on the faucet and Wade's mug fills up with clean tap water.
Ember gasps and puts her hand on her mouth. Her eyes tear up too. This is such a big deal that her dad went through to trouble to make sure Wade can get some water from their home.
Bernie hands Wade back his mug, "Thank you for coming in to my daughter's life."
Brooke and Allen are barely holding it together. Wade too is about to burst then all the Ripples break out into an ugly crying fit.
Bernie backs away with his hands up asking, "Please don't cry on me."
It's later in the evening. Dinner is over. Ember and Wade are hanging out together on the rooftop above the Shop. It's yet another romantic scene with the city lights sparking and the warm fires from Firetown. A few fireworks are going off a few blocks over. Ember with an excited squeal goes, "Gah, I can't believe we are leaving tomorrow."
Wade right beside her, "I know! Start our lives. Work towards our dreams." He sighs with a slight melt, "What a bright future."
Ember leans into her boyfriend and shyly asks, "So. After the internship, classes, and potential jobs lined up. What do you think about marriage next?"
Wade acts surprise, "Oh! Wait?" He joking looks around and and even pats his hand on his pockets. Then with sarcasm he points to her, "Have I not proposed to you yet?"
Ember coyly jokes back with him motioning her hands like no ring is there, "Hmm, umm. no?"
Wade flirts with his hands up, "Well that's coming Lumen and when it happens it will be the brightest day of your life."
Ember laughs and puts her hands on his chest. "Sounds wonderful."
Wade leans in close and they share a kiss. In the background you can see more fireworks going off in Firetown. Ember puts her head on Wade's chest as they hug and she whispers to him, "I'm so lucky."
The next day they board the boat.
The End.
Author's Note: Guys, I wasn't planing on writing the line "But you are my dream" but when I did I was like GAHHH!!!!!! CIRCLING BACK AROUND!!! NORTH STAR!! WOOT!!! I hope you enjoyed this story. It was so much fun to do. I learned a lot about myself as a writer and how to be better at organizing my thoughts like a I would a rough sketch on paper. Possibilities for bonus stories in the future but for now this one is complete.

The Months in Between chapter 11
CHAPTER 11
The next morning Uncle Wade is making pancakes for the boys as they wait for Allen to pick them up. Ember is sipping at her lava java that Wade brewed perfectly for her. She is enjoying watching Wade interact with his nephews. With his cute, goofy smile cracking bad jokes at the kiddos because they are easily amused. She sighs and thinks he'd be a great dad one day. She then wonders what if Wade doesn't think that of way himself? Because of his dad passing and how he has regrets.
"Babe you okay?" Wade noticed her deep in thought.
His Nephews make fun of him, "Oooo Babeee, He he he."
Wade frowns at them slightly, "Drink your OJ."
Ember with the mug to her face goes, "Yes babe I'm fine." She then watches Wade as she sips her coffee.
Marco and Polo chuckle, "OoooOOOOoooooo."
Wade is getting annoyed that he and Ember are trying to have a moment but their are kids here. "Kids, eat your breakfast!"
"Yes Uncle Wade."
Ember hears a knock at the door, "That must be Allen. Want me to get it?"
Seeing as Wade is in the middle of cooking. "Yes please."
Ember answers the door to see Eddy.
"Hii" She says like the first time they met.
Ember moves out of the way to let her in, "Good morning. How was your date last night?"
"Oh wonderful and long over due. Allen told me we interrupted yours. I'm sorry."
"Don't be it was actually fun."
"Well then I'll never feel bad about you two babysitting."
"MOMMY!!" The kid yells and run up to her. "We had so much fun with Uncle Wade and Auntie Ember. Auntie Ember is so warm."
Eddy gives Wade and Ember a look like did you get hurt?
Wade assures her, "Have a special foil blanket that's water and fire proof."
Ember says bye to Marco and Polo then the boys along with Eddy leave.
Wade swings his arms back and forth and asks Ember, "So you ready to hit the town for our date?"
Ember smiles brightly at him. "You bet!"
New date montage! It's a beautiful sunny day in Element City. Wade is surprising Ember with a date at the art museum. Wade and Ember are dressed a bit nicer. Wade has a button down collar pink shirt. Ember is wearing a one piece bright green dress that flows a bit more then her usual skirt. Ember has no hoodie to cover her head. She doesn't need to. She feels no shame in who she is, especially with Wade at her side.
The couple are riding the Wetro to the museum. The train hits a bump and Ember falls into Wade's arms and chest. Not that he didn't have his hand on her back already. Wade smiles down at her and she smiles back at him. She lays her head on his chest. The PDA isn't too awkward for the other train goers but some do stare. Wade and Ember don't care though.
Inside the art museum. Ember is staring up at a giant painting of a vivisteria tree. Her face brightens up and she feels like she's five years old again in her excitement. She moves a little closer to the painting but has a respectful distance like any other art observer. Wade is right next to her but then looks over at an old hang of a Water women talking to two security guards pointing angrily right at them. The security guards, both Water, look at Ember and Wade. Ember doesn't have a clue this is going on as she marvels at the art in front of her. Wade with a worried look on his face, sees them, and puts his arm around her back. He then watches the security guards say something to the old hang and she Karen stomps away. The security guards shake their heads and one of them give a thumbs up to Wade. Ember looks to the opposite direction of the guards and grabs Wade's hand pulling him to gawk at the next art piece. Wade almost looses his footing and smiles as she drags him along the museum like a little kid.
It's early afternoon and the couple just finished their trip at the art museum. Wade points over to the familiar photo booth from one of their first dates and wiggles his eyebrows. Ember just shakes her head and points to her face as if to say my light will over expose the pictures again. Wade then pulls out a roll of black tape signifying that he'll cover up the flash. Next scene Wade pulls the curtain back. Ember steps out first with the photos in hand. She has a sly look on her face as she eyes Wade behind her. He looks like a drunkin' love struck sailor and almost loosing his footing again. Ember shows him the photos. She has a hand over her mouth giggling as he looks at the photos and fist pumps a YES!
Closer to late afternoon. The couple are at the open air cafe sitting on the steps this time. They are watching a band play. Wade takes a gulp of his pink drink. Ember has a fire drink in her hand and sees Wade leaning over. She does a quick kiss to his cheek near his lips. Wade looks over at her with an "oh?" expression on his face as he watches his girlfriend. Ember puckers then smacks her lips with a "yum!" and smiles at Wade. She finally got to taste the pink drink. Wade and Ember both laugh right as a bunch of Elements get up to dance at the band playing. Wade with a coy look on his face offers his hand to Ember. She playfully rolls her eyes but happily takes his hand. They dance with each other and not as dorky as last time too. Wade is splashing a bit and Ember is releasing some flares but not enough to make anyone around them uncomfortably. Wade is so happy he gets to hold Ember's hand this time a twirl her around as he beautiful light glows. The music slows down. Wade pulls Ember into his chest in an embrace similar to when they were stuck in the hearth but this time they are much happier. Together they cast a rainbow light that awes the other Elements in the area.
The sun is setting. We see Wade and Ember crossing the Mineral Lake bridge. The stop right above the spot where they first touched then they kiss each other against the rail.
It's night and back at Wade's place. The pair are in Wade's room. Other then Ember, the only other light source in the room is the oil lamp Wade got from her as a gift. They are sitting on the edge of the bed. Wade softly speaks first but isn't showing any nerves.
"I had a really wonderful time with you today." He says looking into her eyes.
"Me too." She sighs, "It's been a perfect day."
Wade still smiling with a dreamy expression looks away. He's so content even with his thoughts bubbling.
Ember seeing this and moves intimately closer to him. She moves her hand through his waves to the back of his head. Their chemistry in perfect sync the whole time and it causes soft steam to rise. Never in a million years did Ember think she would be able to touch water like this or find a loving soulmate as amazing as Wade. Her face just inches from his face she whispers. "What are you thinking about?"
Wade smiles and doesn't verbally answer her but gently takes his hands to her face and kisses her, well more like Firish kisses her, for a little bit. Wade eventually pulls away to for them to catch their breath. "That's what I'm thinking about." He whispers.
Wade is loving this effect he is having on his girlfriend. Ember just barely gets some composer to flirt back with him. "Really? That's all?"
Wade softly giggles and flirts back, "Oh I got like a tide wave emotions I'd like to show you." Ending with his dorky grin and half lid eyes.
Ember playfully rolls her eyes and slightly shakes her head at the pun then gives one back. "Well I got a burning desire to find out."
Wade pulls back looking a little serious. He then turns and reaches for something on the night stand. He grabs it and turns back around to look Ember in the eye with a soft smile. In the palm of his hand is the lasor bark. Ember places her hand on the bark. As she does Wade puts his other hand on top of hers. He whispers, "Wait... Before you take it. There is something I want you to know..."
Ember looks him in the eye a bit concerned but then when she sees his soft smile her concern melts away.
He continues, "If this should fail, I'm going to do whatever it takes to support you because I love you so much and I'm not going anywhere." He then moves his hand away from the bark to gentle hold her cheek.
Ember leans in to his touch. She already knew this about Wade but hear him say it out loud has brought more comfort to the both of them. "I love you too, thank you." She whispers. Then she takes the bark.
Much time has past and the steam finally starts to clear in Wade's room. It's pillow talk for the two young lovers. Ember lays naked comfortably on top of Wade's bare chest. His arm on her back while his other is behind his head as he looks up smiling at Ember's beautiful light laying across the ceiling. The foil blanket just discreetly covering their bottom half. They both take a deep breath in and dream sigh out.
Wade gentle asks, "How are you feeling?" As he gently rubs his finger tips across her shoulder.
Ember sighs and admits, "A little sore but wonderful." She snuggling in to his chest a bit more. He was fully aware first times are not very pleasant for women and is so humbled to have shared this with her. He was trying his best to make her feel comfortable despite how crazy it was driving him. It was well worth it and his girlfriend seem to enjoy it.
Wade thinks for a bit then says out loud, "I can't wait to do this everyday."
Ember laughs and lifts her head to look at him, "Hey, whoa now. I'm not sure about every day. There are a few days a month we can't."
Wade lifts his head up to look at her confused then realize what he said, "Hmm? Oh! Actually, that wasn't what I was talking about." He then hugs her close and flirtatious says, "Though that's a nice idea too."
Ember laughs and hugs him back as he continues. "I mean this. Laying in each other arms. You being the first thing I wake up to every day. I love this. I love you."
Ember just keeps hugging him tight in a agreement with a big smile across her face. "I love you too." She then asks him, "Yeah but am I too hot? Won't you loose too much of your water each night if we're this close?"
Wade in disagreement, "Pfft, Nah." As he says this though he lets his left leg hang over the bed to touch some water that's on the floor. He uses his foot to soak up some more water for himself.
Ember has her arm laying across his left ribcage and somehow feels the water he is soaking up. She then playfully starts to tickle his left hip. "Oh yeah what's this?"
Wade gets into a giggling fit with his low voice as he tries to roll away from her. It's one of the cutest things Ember as ever heard from him."Hey! No stop ha ha ha." He pleads.
Ember laughs as she sits up. "Oh you're ticklish now?"
"Oh yeah!" Wade thinks he can get her back and starts trying to tickle her stomach.
Not that Ember isn't ticklish herself she is just very good as hiding it. She gives him a sly look just like when he first tried to make her cry and failed. Wade droops down realizing he has failed then tries her cheeks. "Here?"
"Nope." She replies with a strait face.
"Here?" He tries behind her knees.
She smiles at his attempt but is not laughing, "Uh uh."
Wade then changes tactics and pulls her up close to his face inches away from her lips. It surprises her and she releases loud cute gasp as he hold herself up on his chest. He then softly tells her, "Oh I'm sure I can find it somewhere."
Ember flirtatious raises her eyebrows and whispers, "Somewhere." Then starts kissing him.
Both are enjoying this new level of intimacy they are sharing with each other and maybe an extra piece of bark or two.
The morning sun is just barely peaking through the curtains of Wade's room. Ember lays on her side of the bed and Wade snuggles up behind her in a spoon. His face nuzzled into her shoulder. They are both just barely waking up with their eyes still closed. Wade is trying to cuddle harder. Ember has a soft giggle to this and sleepily asks, "Wade, what are you doing?"
Wade just whispers into her shoulder with a smile, "Tìshók'"
Ember with her eyes still closed softly laughs as she partially turns towards him. His face is now in the nook of her neck right up against her cheek. She does a large and happy sigh out. Wade just continues to smiling with his eyes close. Both are starting to wake but neither of them want to get up and end this bliss. Even though they are two weeks away from waking up like this everyday, this right here is just too special to end. Ember is the first to open her eyes to look over at her lover. She puts her hand up to his check and strokes it with her thumb. Her other hand interlocked with his at her belly. Her eyebrows frown a bit, glows a blush yellow in her face, but she is casting her beautiful light. She is about to say something but then Wade's phone starts ringing. He groans as he rolls over to his side of the bed to reach for the phone on his nightstand.
"Hi Mom." He answers. "Agh, okay thank you for the heads up. Safe travels. Love you too." Wade hangs up the phone and dramatic lays back on the bed with a large groan. He looks like he is melting.
Ember is amused by his tantrum. She leans her head on his chest, "What's wrong? You're nephews coming over again?"
"No worse! My mom's flight got moved up. Her and Lake will be home just before noon. AGH!"
Ember laughs and snuggles into his chest. "So dramatic. It's not like we won't do this again or anything." Wade hugs her with tears forming in his eyes. She is right but still he's upset. "I'll go brew us some coffee." She tires to get up but Wade pulls her back onto the bed with him. She shrieks and lands back down into his arms. "WADE!" She screams laughing.
"Don't go! I'll get too cold and I'll miss you. Just a few more hours please?" Wade trying to make excuses to keep Ember in his arms. You can't blame him though.
It's late afternoon and Ember is on the wetro riding home to Firetown. She's holding onto a handle hanging from the ceiling the other arm holding her backpack over her shoulder. She is standing in one of the newly installed no splash zones with a dreamy look on her face thinking about how amazing her weekend was. She like Wade didn't want to go but she had already planned on getting back on Sunday to tidy up some errands before finishing her last week at the welding job. She also has the challenge of making her weekend not look too good in front of her parents. They probably missed her a lot.
Business at the Fireplace has been doing so well that Flarrietta and Flarry are able to have the Shop closed on Sundays. Ember enters and the door does it's usually chime. She thought it would be enough to get her parents attention upstairs but it didn't. She does hear the two of them giggling at each other. Confused Ember goes "Hello?"
"AY YAHHH!!" Bernie yells.
"Bernie! Quiet!" Cinder is the first to run down the stairs to greet her daughter, awkwardly. "Heyyy. My beautiful daughter is home.. early... Is everything fine? How was your weekend?"
A wide eyed Ember awkwardly answers, "It was great mom, ha ha. Did you forget I was stopping home to do laundry and get ready for work tomorrow?" She is putting two and two together thinking that she must of interrupted something.
Bernie comes down stairs next all overly excited like he was trying to hide something. "Oh! You're here! How was your weekend?" Bernie has a huge grin on his face and hands up in the air trying not to be suspicious. It isn't working.
Ember pauses looking back and forth between the two of them, "Great. Just awesome." With a raised eyebrow she then asks, "And how was yours?"
They both smile big with a thumbs up. "Great! Just a lovely, calming, relaxing weekend."
Ember laughs. "I'm glad to see you two enjoying your retirement."
Bernie says as he turns to Wife. "Me too and we are feeling much better about being empty nesters soon." Bernie then turn towards Ember and takes her hands. "My daughter, I am proud to see you follow you dreams and I know we will all be okay on your journey soon."
"Thank you Àshfá." Ember says with a smile and gives him a hug. "Well I better take care of this laundry." She turns and walks up the stairs. As she is far enough away she over hears her mom tell her dad.
"And I need to take care of this keymaster." Cinder tells her husband. Ember can hear her father give off a deep laugh. Oh they are going to be just fine when she moves out.
Author's Note: If you think that was romantic oh just you wait. Listen to the artist No Doubt song titled "Running" and tell me that would not make a great date montage song in Ember's perspective. Next and last chapter next week. :,(

The Months in Between chapter 10
Chapter 10
Early morning at the Shop before open. It's Friday, the start of the big weekend. Ember is sneaking around the hearth looking for something before her mother catches her. She is opening and closing drawers. Looking in sacks, vases, but can't seem to find it. She groans in frustration and gasps when she hears her mother's voice behind her.
"Looking for something?" Cinder asks leaning her back on the doorway with a raises eyebrow. It's not like her daughter hasn't gone through her stuff like this before but she isn't doing any deliveries so why the snooping around?
Ember nervously asks as she keeps looking through jars and cabinets hoping to find it on her own, "Yeah... where do you keep your bark again?"
Cinder tilts her head and asks suspiciously, "Which one?"
Ember stops what she is doing in frustration and defeat then slowly asks without looking at her mother asks, "The... lasor.. bark..."
Cinder gasps and yells, "EMBER!"
A panicked Ember runs up to her and pleads, "Keep your voice down! I don't want Dad hearing this."
Cinder is stern with her daughter, "You need to be careful."
Ember rolls her eyes thinking she is getting the talk, "Yeah yeah he's Water, I'm Fire."
Cinder takes her daughter's hands "That not what I'm talking about." She pulls Ember more into the back of the hearth and the two of them crouch down. Cinder then whispers to Ember. "I've never met a perfect match that did NOT get pregnant on their hunny moon." Cinder lets go of her hands and the two of them stay still, letting those words sink in.
Ember starts to look hopeful, "You really think Wade and I can have children one day?"
Cinder exhales out and says with compassion. "I don't know, but based on your smoke reading yes, and I've been praying to the Blue Flame that it will happen." She then switches back to stern mom mode and points to her. "When you're married!"
Ember steps up. "That's why I'm looking for the bark mom. And let me clear this isn't his idea or that he's pushing or I'm pushing it's just..." Ember takes a deep breath out then continues. "We really love each other and I feel it wouldn't be fair to not have it especially with us moving in together soon. I want to take the responsibility of making sure we feel comfortable together."
Cinder is surprise by her daughter being very mature with this. This isn't for an irresponsible one night stand but two loving adults planning as best they can for a future together. Cinder sighs, "This normally isn't Firish tradition."
Ember then finishes, "and just like I pointed out to Dad we're not in Fire Land. We make our own traditions now." Ember bravely asks her mom dead in the eye. "Am I wrong for wanting this?"
Cinder smiles, "No. And this will be our little secret between us women. Also is in the third drawer down to the left." Ember immediately grabs several barks from the drawer. "Hey not too much!" Cinder yells.
"Sorry."
Cinder laughs at her daughter, "You need anything else I am here for you always."
"Thank you Àshká. I do need to grab some logs to make kol nuts. Wade wants to try out a new recipe for dinner tonight."
Cinder then adds, "Let's grab some extra spices too just incase you need them."
Ember knocks at the door to Wade's place and he almost too enthusiastically opens the door right after she knocks. "Ember. Hi. How was work?"
"It was fine and I'm glad it's starting to slow down too." Ember is in her one piece work suit and steps in. Carrying a large backpack for the weekend over her shoulder and a grocery bag of Firish food in the other arm.
Wade grabs the grocery bag, "Oh, here let me take that for you. You can drop off your stuff in my room if you want and I'll meet you in the kitchen."
Ember can tell, as best as he's trying to hiding it, he's a bit nervous for this weekend too. Ember though feels calm as a candle for the most part, especially now after finding that bark. They both needed this. As exciting and nerve wreaking as it is, they want to be together, and this weekend is going to be the best trail run of that.
Ember puts her stuff down in Wade's room. She has a date night outfit packed but after seeing how nervous he is she decides on her usual shirt and skirt outfit. Keeping it small. She enters the kitchen to see Wade in an apron humming as he wraps something green around the logs she brought with her.
"What's that you're wrapping on the logs?" She asks as she walks over next to him putting her hand on his back.
"It's dried seaweed with coral mineral sprinkled in. Ever since my first kol nut I've been curious about trying this out."
"Cool, I've never had anything from the sea before."
"Well it definitely has a different taste then land food." Wade hands her two prepped logs. "Work your magic."
Ember jokes, "Oh I'm cooking now?"
Wade laughs and assures her, "I'm in charge the prep and clean up. I could use the oven but let's be real your fire is way faster and more authentic." He ends with a smile.
Ember rolls eyes takes the logs and presses them into kol nuts. She notices the grittiness on her hands from the mineral power with a pleasant smell of the ocean. She places one nut in a bowl and the other in a mug for Wade. Wade adds his water to cool it down for him to handle.
"Okay you first." Wade says.
"How about together?"
"Fine on the count of three."
Together they go, "One, two, three." And pop the food in their mouths. Well, Wade sips his like a hot cup of tea. Smacking his lips together deep in thought. It's a delayed reaction and both are unsure how they feel about the taste. It's very different from they've eaten before but it's not bad. Ember speaks first not wanted to be rude but gives an honest critique.
"It's not bad. In a weird way it works."
Wade is being more critical about it, "Yeah but I feel like it's missing something?"
"I brought some Firish spices." Ember grabs one of the jars of spices her mom helped her pack and takes the lid off for Wade to take a smell. "How about we try this?"
Wade closes his eyes and takes a sniff. He the opens them back up in surprise, "Oh I like that, that will pair well with the dry seaweed."
Ember smiles, "Okay. I know you said you're doing the prep but can you teach me what you are doing?"
"Of course."
Ember can tell this is calming down whatever nerves he's been holding onto. This right here has honestly been one of the best dates they've ever had because it's just them doing normal couple stuff. In the kitchen... Alone... All weekend... A thought creeps up on Ember and it makes her flame flicker. What if she's expecting something that Wade doesn't want to do or isn't ready or vise-versa? Now it seems like her nerves are creeping up on her. Wade is starting to notice.
"Hello? World to Ember?" Wade asks as he waves his hand in front of her face.
It surprises Ember, "Huh. What?"
Wade feels a little unsure of himself, "You okay? You looked deep in thought just now." He turns to take the platter of prepare logs over to the kitchen island so Ember has more room for her flame to cook the kol nuts. He's watching her patiently waiting to hear what she has to say.
Ember does a large exhale out and smiles picking up a log. "We can talk about it at dinner."
Wade watches her as she cooks the logs in to kol nuts with her hands and a thought pops into his head. "Hold up, let me try something." He walks over to right behind her and places his hands on top of hers holding a log. His hands are bubbling on her hands but is not boiling off.
Ember blushes a bright yellow at how close and intimate he is being but then she realizes what he wants to try. "Wade, I don't want to burn you."
Wade assures with a whisper since they are so close to each other. "If you do burn me then it's on me for being too curious. Please?"
A nervous Ember fires up her hands and slowly pushes the log inward. Wade's hand on top of hers follows. His hands are boiling with more steam being released but he isn't pulling away in pain. In fact Ember hears him take a quick breath in. Ember lets go of the now kol nut and it drops onto the plate in front of her. Wade pulls back his hands and steps back away from Ember. He bumps into the counter he forgot was behind him. He looks embarrassed. His eyes are wide as he stairs at the kol nut in front of them. Ember partially turns around to look at him trying to read if he's hurt. She can't tell. "Wade?"
Wade still staring at the kol nut bashfully rubs his hands to his side and sticks them in his watery pockets. He is tense, blushing, sweating a bit, and of course the thought bubbles. He voice squeaks and he has to clears his throat. "Yeah, ahem, I'm.. I'm fine."
Ember then states the obvious, "Then why do you seem so nervous?"
Wade knows he can't lie to her but this one is hard to say. He rubs the back of his head. Not making eye contact with Ember, looks down embarrassed, "Because that... felt good... like really good."
Ember is understanding what he means. Meaning if things get "heated" between the two of them later it's going to be a lot harder for them to stop. It's time to clear the air and ask the big question that's been on Ember's mind and obviously Wade's too. She doesn't want him to feel ashamed by her question so she gives him a reassuring smile and takes his hand. "Wade, were you expecting us to have sex this weekend?"
Wade looks her in the eye trying to find anything negativity in her look and finds none. He then says pointing back and forth between the two of them, "I expect US to do whatever WE feel comfortable with." He pauses to look down at their hands together and then back to into Ember's eyes. "I... at least want to talk about it."
Ember smiles, laughing off the nerves, "Well what a perfect dinner conversation." And motions him to sit with her.
Wade smiles at her lovely. She really knows how to break the ice. Must be a Firish thing. He starts to talk as he walks over to sit. "Like for one, if it's a no before marriage I'm perfectly fine with that. So please I don't you to feel any pressure this weekend or us moving in together, like ever." He takes a sip of his kol nut tea to calm his nerves. It's working because it tastes really good. He blinks and stares down at his mug in surprise at the taste.
Ember is smiling at him starting to relax. She takes a bite of a kol nut, is surprise by how good it tastes, and she then tells him. "It is in traditional Firish culture but it's not a no for me."
Wade looks a little surprise at her as he lowers his mug on the table. He flutters his fingers around his mug and admits to her. "I haven't been able to find fireproof protection for myself and I really want to make sure you feel comfortable."
"I've honestly never heard of protect for men but I brought some for me. I want to make sure you feel comfortable too."
Wade perks up with a big smile on his face and flirts, "Some? Like plural?"
Ember laughs getting the reference. Wade laughs with her too and reaches over to hold her hand. He looks her in the eye. "We don't have to do anything but it's nice to know that the option is there if we want to take it together. Also this tastes fantastic!" Pointing at his mug.
"I know right? We really make a great team."
Next scene they are relaxing on the couch after dinner. Wade's been getting into these old Firish soap operas. Ember though has seen them all and is just enjoying the time with her boyfriend. They are cuddling so hard it looks like they are fused together. Ember is snuggled up on Wade's side with her legs tucked underneath her. Wade has his arm wrapped around her and is resting his head on top of hers. His other hand is on top of hers which is on his knee. Wade can feel her flame on her head wisp over his cheek to the back his neck and head. Wade take a deep breath in and a dreamy sigh out. Enjoying the feeling of being so close.
Ember hears this and decides to try something. Not really thinking about the consequences of her actions, she glows a bright yellow, and let's her whole body heat up. To say this catches Wade off guard is a complete understatement. His hands on top of Ember's heating up felt really good like a pleasurable electrical current passing through him. Now nearly half his body just got hit with it hard. Especially where Ember has her hand on his knee. A moan escape his lips. Ember stares up at him in shock immediately feeling bad for what she just did. Wade shifts back and pulls his knees to his chest hiding whatever arousal he has. He looks at her with his brows in a frown and says sternly with a small hint of anger, "Not cool."
Ember immediately feels guilty and tells him. "I'm so sorry I didn't realize it was that much."
Wade can tell he has calm down a bit and stretches his legs out. He tells her quietly and less mad. "It's that much."
Ember puts her head down on to her hands. "Agh, I knew I would be the one to screw this up."
Wade feels a little guilt about getting mad and decides to joke around with her. "If you wanted to get physical you could of just said so."
Ember lifts her head up to Wade inches away from her face. He looks determined like he did the first time they played the crying game together. Ember's face glows very bright yellow. Wade then backs off and crosses his arms in front of his chest. "See? Not so much fun is it? Being caught off guar-WAHH!"
Ember has pulled him down on top of her in a kiss. Wade relaxes into the kiss and puts his arms around her holding her tight. They make out a bit and Wade finds his hands moving to places he hasn't gone before. A little but loud voice can be heard in the next room.
"HI UNCLE WADE!!"
Wade in a panic jumps high off the couch. "AHH!" He yells. Then splashes into the water.
Ember quickly sits up on the couch adjusting her shirt, skirt, flame, whatever she feels is out of place. Then takes a few quick breaths trying to calm her yellow glow down.
In the next room which is also the front door. Allen is standing by the door's entrance while his son's Marco and Polo are looking for their Uncle.
Wade pops out of the water to scare his nephews with a "ROAR!"
The boys scream in delight.
"Come here you little sea monsters!" and grabs them both in a hug. Wade laughs with kiddos.
Allen raises an eye brow because this isn't normally how his brother greets them. He feels like he is hiding something.
"AUNTIE EMBER, YOU'RE HERE TOO?!" The boys cry out. Now Allen gets it.
Ember nervously, "Hey kids!"
Marco asks Ember, "Are you sleeping over too?"
Ember just smiles not knowing what to say.
Wade walks up to his Allen. Allen can tell his brother is throw off by their arrival. "Hey sorry I forgot I was watching them and I have Ember over too."
Allen looking a bit awkward asks, "Need me to cancel my date at the last minute?" You can tell by his voice that he really doesn't want to. His wife Eddy won't be happy.
Wade tells his brother, "No, no I don't want you to do that. It's my fault I didn't tell you about this weekend." Wade puts his hands on his face and slowly rubs them down groaning in frustration.
Allen with a smug look on his face whispers to his brother, "I interrupted something didn't I?"
Wade looks like he's melting from sadness and groans, "Yess.."
By this time Ember has walked up in earshot of the two brothers. Allen tiring to be upbeat opens his arms wide, "Surprise, you got some kiddos you're watching tonight because Wadey over here forgot to tell ya." Allen takes his fist to Wade shoulder and nudges him. Rubbing Wade's mistake into his pride. Wade rolls his eyes and sighs looking all droopy and sad.
Ember being a good sport smiles, "It's fine, you and Eddy enjoy your date."
Allen gives Wade a playful double punch in the arm and laughs, "Ha! Haaa!" Knowing he is getting some action tonight and Wade isn't. Wade is total unamused and annoyed.
As Allen struts out the door in happiness Wade leans in and whispers so only his brother can hear. "Don't get her pregnant again." Then shuts the door on Allen loosing his good mood. Got to give it to brotherly love. Wade turns toward Ember with a nervous smile on his face, "Sorry."
Ember laughs at Wade. Then says this to help him think he didn't ruin tonight, adding a flirtatious look and her hands on his chest. "It's fine and actually I think it's really sweet you watching them for your Brother."
Wade flirts back as he reaches up to her hands, "Yeah? How sweet?"
Before Ember can answer Polo yells, "AUNTIE EMBER! CAN YOU MELT SOME GLASS AGAIN?!"
Ember tells Wade, "We better do what the sea monsters say."
Wade laughs, "Good idea."
The four of them are snuggle up on the couch together watching some sort of kids movie. Polo is cuddles up with Ember over the space foil looking blanket from Wade's room. It's between them so their different chemistries don't hurt each other. Polo leans into her, "You're sooo warm."
Ember giggles and Wade smiles at Polo but the Marco peaks around Uncle Wade all angry, "HEY I WANNA TURN!!"
Polo points out, "We both can if Uncle Wade moves."
Wade chimes in, "Uncle Wade doesn't like that idea."
Ember laughs at the all the jealousy unfolding in front of her while Marco gives his Uncle Wade the sad puppy eyes.
Wade rolls his eyes and groans, "Fiiiine." He reluctantly gets off the couch and feels like he is going to cry not having Ember's warmth all to himself. Ember holds the blanket out for Marco as he scoots over to her. Wade tells him, "Be careful."
"I will. I don't want to put Auntie Ember out."
The boys snuggle on either side of Ember and they fall asleep from her warmth.
Wade then smiles at the scene thinking Ember would make a great mom one day. He catches a tear falling from his cheek with his finger and sniffs.
Ember looks up at Wade smiling. She then thinks just moments ago they could of been doing an act that could of turned whats happening now on the couch into a reality. Wade some how is thinking the same thing. Not quite sure if they are ready for that but it's does paint a nice picture for the future.
Author's Note: I know. I know. I am evil but this has been too much fun to write. Darn kids and Uncle Wade is not happy! XD Update next week... maybe... ;) The next chapter does get a bit steamy. Like really steamy. XD
The Months in Between chapter 9
CHAPTER 9
It's the night of the charity event for the Firetown flood. It's being held uptown at the Argentum Aurum Hotel. The fanciest hotel in all of Element City. Everyone who's anybody is going to be there. The Mayor even prepared a speech. Brooke wanted to spare no expense and rented out a limousine for the Ripple family to pick up the Lumens. It's black tie event and Wade is in a black tux with a bowtie (like the Oscar art). He steps out of the limo to the Shop, it's closed early for the event. He looks a bit nervous because last time he was here he got into a huge shouting match with Bernie. He takes a big gulp and walks into the Shop.
Upstairs Cinder is helping her daughter with the final touches in her dress. It's like a cross between her familiar black dress and ceremonial gem robe. It's backless and long flowing. She is wearing long gloves, a surprise for Brooke, with matching dangling earrings. Cinder is beaming at her daughter. "Oh it's like I'm getting you ready for your wedding day."
Ember looking nervous, "Àshká! It's just a fancy party. Think of it as a big celebration for you and dad retiring!"
Cinder agrees, "Oh yes, I am very much looking forward to it."
Ember gets up to go look at herself in the mirror. She smiles brightly and then turns to her mom to ask. "You think Wade will like the dress?"
Cinder having done hundreds of matches tells her daughter, "He may be Water but he's still a guy." She puts her arm around her and says with a smile. "I think he has the hots for you."
Ember laughs.
From downstairs in the Shop. Wade walks in to the closed store. The only light source is coming from the Blue Flame in the back and Bernie sitting up front at the table by the window. Bernie clears his throat and waves at Wade.
Wade nervously adjusts his tie and walks over to the table. Wade doesn't know where to start but with a greeting. "Hello, you look great."
Bernie nervously, "Thank you, you look good too."
Both men look down but Wade pokes his head back up first. "Hey I'm sorry about the other day. I meant no disrespect."
Bernie nods his head, "Hmm, I apologize for my outburst too." He pauses then tells Wade, "Actually I'm impressed you stood up to me. You need do exactly that for Ember when I'm not around."
Wade smiles, "Yes sir. Anything for her." He takes a seat across the table and asks. "They're not ready yet huh?"
"Nope." Not knowing what else to stay Bernie asks "So how's work going? I hear good things about you all the time from our customers."
Wade smiles at this but then says, "Honestly I hate it. My job is finding mistakes, give the bad news, and don't do a thing about it. If it wasn't for my mom's architect knowledge helping me come up with good news to give people, I wouldn't know how much longer I could do this. It's tons of added work but the result has been faster repairs and more importantly happier people. Making that connection is what's worth it to me. That and I'm saving up for something special."
"Connecting with people is why I wanted the Fireplace. Though the work is hard and with long hours. Not always fun but I had a responsibility to take care of my wife and Ember."
Wade gets real with Bernie as he leans forward to stare at the Blue Flame from across the room. "Having Ember in my life has given me such drive and focus. It's made working so much easier." Wade takes a pause then decides to tell Bernie something big. "I want to ask her to marry me one day."
Bernie looks at Wade giving him a straight face with slightly widen eyes and raised eyebrows. Wade turns to look at Bernie. You can tell Wade is very serious and sincere about what he has just said. Saying what he feels in his heart.
At the same time this is happening Cinder has come down the stairs and sings "We're ready!" She is excited the most for this party. Both men stand up for their ladies. From behind Cinder comes Ember.
You thought Wade was excited to see Ember at the movies this is ten times that only without the water works. He almost forgets how to breath as he stares at her beauty.
As Ember walks up to Wade they both can't keep their eyes off each other, smiling too. Ember's beautiful light is showing.
Cinder gets to her husband first and takes ahold of his arm. Bernie smiles softly at her then the both smile up at Ember.
Ember gets to Wade. He softly, almost in a whisper says. "You look so beautiful." Never looking away from her eyes they both reach for each other's hands. It's only when they touch does Wade realizes. "You're wearing gloves?"
Ember tells him. "It's a surprise for your mom. She seems like she always wants to give me a hug for some reason."
Cinder being nosy asks, "So what did you two talk about while we were getting ready?"
Wade has a slightly nervous look on his face. He is hoping Bernie doesn't give away his huge secret but he wanted him to know how serious he loves Ember.
Bernie calmly, "Oh nothing big. Just work and guy stuff." Cinder looks a little suspicious but then shrugs it off.
Wade smiles and takes the opportunity to get going. "Come on. My mom is in the limo waiting for us." Bernie and Cinder arm and arm step out first. Ember takes Wade's arm and he places his hand on top of hers as they walk out too.
In the limo ride over. Cinder and Brooke are enjoying their time together. Chatting it up like they are old time girlfriends with glasses of Champaign in their hands. Wade and Ember stair at them like they just caught two Earth elements pruning.
Wade whispers to Ember "Is this weirding you out too because we didn't introduce them to each other?"
"Yep."
Bernie is sitting cross armed next to Uncle Harold, "I got to say your vest is just so colorful."
Bernie thinking it's a weird complement, "Uhhh, thank you?"
Uncle Harold continues, "I just love working with colors."
Bernie doesn't know where he is going with this and feels uncomfortable that he scoots away from him just a bit.
Curious Ember asks, "So how did you two meet?"
It's a flash back. Brooke starts the story. "I went to the Fireplace the morning you started the welding job." Brooke walks into the Shop with her head held high and sees Cinder. "I knew who Cinder was the moment I saw her, the family resemblance is undeniable."
Cinder stops and stares up at the water women with an untrusting squint in her eyes. Cinder knew who she was too but still asks, "Mrs. Ripple?"
Brooke goes, "Mrs. Lumen?" It's like a stand off as they pause.
Then Cinder speaks. "Would you care for some tea?"
"I'd love some!" Brooke proclaims. And they been good friends ever since.
Bernie leans over to Wade and Ember, "It's weirding me out too."
Wade tells Bernie, "I wonder what stories they know?"
Cinder points to Wade, "I know about the sponge!"
"AH!" Wade goes and backs away. Ember looks horrified with him.
Brooke follows up with, "So treat Ember right, not that you wouldn't dear." She says with a smile on her face.
Bernie asks, "What's a sponge?"
Ember whispers near Wade's face, "Don't worry, if she ever has one, I'll just burn it."
Wade smiles and relaxes putting his arm around Ember, "My hero."
The limo pulls up to the hotel lobby entrance. The place is huge like a convention center with a massive staircase. Lake with Ghibli and Allen with his family are on the steps waiting for the rest of the Ripples. On the same steps are Flarrietta and Flarry waiting for Bernie and Cinder.
Wade and Ember are the last to step out of the limo. Wade then notices Ember's dress is backless. Wade gets a silly nervous look on his face, blushes, and rubs the back of his head trying to quite down the popping thought bubbles. Ember doesn't catch his nervousness but his siblings do.
Allen see's Wade's face first and jokes around with him, "Hey what's wrong Bro?"
Lake adds on, "Yeah, you nervous about something?"
Brooke chimes in, "Oh you two stop it." As Wade smiles nervously.
Flarrietta waves over to the Lumens, "Oy, we saved you a table."
Bernie and Cinder turn to their daughter. Cinder tells Ember, "You go stay with Wade's family." Bernies says with a smile, "We'll mingle with you all after we catch up with the other Firish."
Wade goes, "Hey we can stop by too."
Flarry steps forward, "We got enough room for your family too."
Ember smiles at this and glows bright.
Inside the hotel's grand hall. It really is a melting pot of all Elements including Firish guests, workers, food, and art on display. Vinny, Gale, and other Construction leads in their best dress are in a circle chatting and laughing. The Firish welders are sitting with other construction men of different Elements with their wives and families all chatting. Their kids are even playing with each other. A Earth boy is chasing around a Firish boy laughing. A Water and Air kid pops in to play too. Jimmy and Wendy are lovingly dancing with each other. This charity ball doesn't feel like a depressing event but a grand celebration of the whole City coming together.
Wade looks around with Ember. "Wow, this is even cooler then I thought."
Cinder and Bernie are sitting down at a fancy table. They've gotten their familiar Firish food and drinks. Cinder tells her husband. "Now this is how to start off a retirement." Bernie smiles at her and they chime their glasses together in a toast.
There's a dance floor with music. Wade and Ember are dancing together. It just feels like the perfect celebration for the two of them.
Wade says to her. "Can this be an unofficial redo of my high school prom?"
Ember with her head on his chest laughs, "Only if it's redo of mine too." She pulls back to look at him. "I'm really looking forward to our weekend together."
Wade looks into her eyes and nearly a whisper. "Me too." He slides his hand a little lower on her bare back and rubs his thumb across.
His touch sends electric like waves through Ember's body but she is very good at hiding it. She then places a hand on his cheek. He closes his eyes expecting a kiss on other cheek but it ends up being more of a kiss on his jaw closer to his neck. He pulls back to look at her. Trying to read her face like he did when they first touched. Ember is giving him the half lidded, droopy, bedroom eyes. Wade softens and gives the same look back. He is one lucky Water guy. The music stops and an announcer asks everyone to take their seat. Wade says something to Ember about meeting her back at the seat. As Ember sits down she motions to Brooke and Allen to come closer since the event is a bit loud.
"I know what I want to give Wade but till need you're help with it later."
Brooke smiles and Allen goes, "You got it Ember."
Wade sits back down next to Ember and takes ahold of her hand as the Mayor of Element City begins his speech. He's an older Water man.
"My fellow Elements. When this City was founded four hundred years ago, Water had a vision. They took their first steps out of the sea and looked to sky. They felt the earth on their feet, the warmth from the sun on their bodes, and took a breath of fresh air. The Water of that time knew that this City would be the perfect place for all Elements to call home. Though throughout the years we have struggle to find common ground with each other. One thing has remained the spirit of our City and that is helping those in need in times of hardship. Our Firish community has been hurt. Out of all the disasters this City has face I have never seen such resilience and openness come from such Elements as we have from the Firish. From the new Welders on the upper banks."
The Firish men cheer. Vinny and the other construction crew clap too.
"And the shops in Firetown." Firish business owners cheer but Bernie stays humbly silent and smiles.
The Mayor continues. "One shop in particular has been at the heart of our rebuild. Opening it's doors to all Elements helping to rebuild the community. And I hear their food is really good too."
The crowd laughs. Bernie and Cinder look at each other and shrug. What business are they talking about?
"Which is why I am proud to award the key to the City to Bernie and Cinder Lumen of the Fireplace!"
Bernie and Cinder are in shock. They were not expecting this kind of recognition. Neither was Ember as she brings her hand up to her face in shock and happy tears. She turns towards her parents and motions them to go up there. Flarrietta and Flarry tell them to go there too as they clap. Wade and the Ripples are surprised and they start crying happy tears. Wade puts his hands on Ember's shoulder for support. Which in turn, she puts one of her hands on top of his as she watches her parents go up on stage.
As the Mayor hands Bernie the key he says. "The Fireplace is now officially marked forever as a historical site in all of Element City." He whispers to Bernie, "Which means all code violations are grandfathered in." And winks.
Bernie looks surprised at Ember and Wade then smiles.
Ember is clapping and Wade gives a goofy grin with a shrug as he claps. Ember is in tears of joy and thinks so herself what a perfect way for her parents to retire to.
Author's Note: this wasn't supposed to be the end of this chapter but the next few chapters I wrote were so much fun! They ended up being long then I thought. XDD!!
