For real though i am saying this as someone who does like Lindy and was disappointed we didnt even hear her name in the MCU: she is a complex character. She has done bad things to Bob. That is why their relationship is interesting in the first place!! I don't want her (or their relationship) watered down. Let female characters do morally complex and bad things

okay. sure. i'll waste my time further to try to explain to you why this kind of response is complete bullshit, but i get the impression you already know it is because you're hiding behind the anon feature.

can you provide examples from the text, with their exact series name and issues, that support your claims of lindy "doing bad things to bob"? can you provide examples from the text that actually show her as being "a complex character" and not a cardboard cut-out stock wife lois lane pastiche that only exists to add texture, interest, motivation, and drama to bob's life and narrative, and never her own?

if your only two examples are things you've gleamed from reading lindy or bob's pages on the marvel wikia including the time she was implied to be having at the very least an emotional affair with her personal fitness trainer and the time she asked tony stark to kill bob if he got too powerful and out of hand, then, i'm sorry, but those aren't going to cut it.

the superhero genre has been using cheating and love triangle plots since the very beginning with superman's introduction. stories need conflict to exist, and yes, sometimes that can include cheating and love triangles. furthermore, don't you think its worth it to interrogate why the male writers of sentry's stories often frame lindy as being an ungrateful bitch who doesn't realize she's married to the sentry and how important that's supposed to be? characters exist in narratives as tools to further the themes of the stories they're in - and the stories are always, always, always about bob.

second, the entire concept of the sentry is 'what if superman/captain marvel/miracle man was even more powerful, was mentally unstable, and was easily manipulated?' he is at times closer to dr. manhattan from watchmen than to superman, and when you have a character like that there's always the an easy story avenue to depict them turning and being used for evil purposes. and that is what the entirety of dark avengers volume 1 is about with norman osborn manipulating bob for his own purposes, which then culminates into bob begging to be killed to atone for what he's done by thor during the siege event.

lindy during the events of mighty avengers volume 1 and dark avengers volume 1 is trapped in the watchtower not only when she was surrounded by norman oborn's band of actual murderous supervillains, but trapped with bob himself who could be able to rewrite reality and make her stay with him. and she knows this. for essentially that entire run she's paralyzed with fear because she is a civilian woman with no powers and nothing to use against her god of a husband until she is killed by bullseye. for bob's development of course.

i didn't say this in my state of the union address to the sentryagent tag, but i'll ask it here: why are people dead set on portraying john walker as a good guy and redeemable over a 29 appearance woman who committed the crime of existing and playing into some misogynistic tropes? john walker has said a homophobic slur on panel, said he doesn't believe in evolution, been racist to various minorities, helped his buddies beat up immigrants, murdered people with his bare hands, and was introduced as the super-patriot among many, many other things. i understand that real people are capable of being deradicalized, but john walker is not a real person, and like i mentioned earlier, is a tool in a narrative to explore the idea of the flag suit hero that the captain america brand is. he will not change because he represents a very real and very scary kind of person that exists in the real world, and still exists despite being created in the 1980's.

secondly, i think it's a very gross misrepresentation of 'the situation' and your actions that sparked this to claim that i am not in the fandom and have no similar interests, implying that i am going out of my way to put you down over something i have no actual investment in, when this is specifically my sentryagent and thunderbolts movie sideblog. if you scrolled for a bit, that would be made clear even with my url being in reference to sentry's comics.

what's also a gross misrepresentation is not explaining properly what you said in your posts about lindy and jumping straight to playing the victim. in my first and only reply to one of the posts you made about her, i did not even say the word misogynist or misogyny, only calling the content of your post weird and asking why you chose to include her, a comic character who hasn't appeared in the mcu or was even mentioned in bob's file in the movie, into a deeply misogynistic caricature that exists to further the development and prop up the men in your story.

lindy lee-reynolds has 29 appearances and in those 29 appearances, she is barely given any interiority or agency before she is murdered by bullseye to further bob's development in dark avengers, leading him down the path to the siege event, where bob himself is killed (for the first time). prior to her death, she lived in the watchtower surrounded by supervillains and her immensely powerful, reality warping husband was slowly losing his mind and being manipulated by norman osborn aka the green goblin. during this time, she has no friends and is entirely trapped in this situation until bullseye kills her.

on the flip side, john walker as he exists in the comics and the mcu is meant to be the answer to the question 'what if captain america was conservative and blindly followed every order the government gave him?' that is the point of his character, acting as a comparison of what steve rogers, sam wilson, and bucky barnes are pointedly not like. i genuinely do not care if you, or anyone else for that matter, like john walker as a character. two of my aforementioned friends have read every single comic appearance of john. this is not my problem.

in one of your posts on lindy, you admitted to not reading many comics, while not a problem either, comes with then not being familiar with and understanding the tropes of the superhero genre as they've existed for the last 85 years. sentry is superman, yes, but lindy is his lois lane or lana lang in addition to being based off the other silver age women of marvel such as susan storm-richards or betty ross-banner or even carol danvers before she became ms. marvel.

there is definitely something to be said about the comics themselves treating lindy in a misogynistic way while at the same time being ableist towards bob for his mental illness and past addiction issues, but that is not what your posts were about.

where my problem lies in all of this, and to make this abundantly clear to you or anyone else, is creating an au for the thunderbolts movie where lindy exists solely to be bob's homophobic, emotionally and sexually abusive ex-girlfriend who get's bob hooked back on drugs to then make it clear to the reader that john is bob's true love who will treat him right.

this is misogynistic. full stop. i don't know how else to explain this. and continuously having a meltdown over someone pointing this out to you, to the point of saying the entire movie is now ruined, is so immensely childish behaviour, that i almost couldn't believe your reaction.

it is not "drama" as you put it in your own words to point out misogyny in fandom spaces. it is not "drama" to give someone criticism over the fan works they create.
