The PokƩmon Holiday Cards
Okay so to catch this blog up with the holiday card lore, back in 2022 I got fired from this job but it was because of some very dumb not my fault reasons. I'm petty and wanted everyone to feel bad about this info so I made holiday cards to send them off because it was the holidays, and I had a week left. Kill them with kindness or something. Anyway I realized that template could be reused for this PokƩmon mystery dungeon dnd group that formed that year, so I did.
This is basically the entire group, minus me. Arceus is, ofc, the GM.
Anyway so cut to next year and I'm having a realll bad Christmas. Not gonna get into it but it sucked. And I was reminded of the PokƩmon holiday cards and so, with a need to escape, I threw myself into making them last minute. Literally all i did for two days straight, the file says 24 hours on it, I went crazy hard.
The speedpaint is here and the version with narration is here. I think I recorded the narration in the hotel bathroom at like, midnight, on my phone, as a normal person does lmao. Idk it has general lore about the gang if you want that.
This time I included me with Lutris, the Dewott. This is because between this and the previous year, we started dating, and this will stay a trend as we are still, in fact, together. Love him <3. Nonetheless, I do not know what madness I pulled but this is still one of my favorite works I've ever done. Straight up so proud of it, even the continuous card idea was so fun. The sketching and drawing process was fun. I even solidified a new art style accidentally, a pseudo watercolor style, as I constantly search for the high that was me drawing this. I think going from horrible week to the best artwork I have pulled in forever and also a corner stone of my artstyle, really helped solidify this as a personal favorite. But, we continue.
Into 2024 where I was trying to get that high but knowing I would likely fall and also knowing I had 2 more cards I had to plan because the group expanded.... I decided to not try and copy the past but pave a new future, instead of continuous cards in space, it's a series of 6 cards, each set one after another in time.
Honestly, I like this one, kind of. It has some level of art improvement and is defo more clean, but I still feel like 2023 was better somehow. Idk maybe I'm biased. But I still had fun with this, especially on the Mareep and making crystal Onix.
And so we move on to this year, a version I am uploading the same time everywhere bc I finally got around to editing the video lmao.
The music is Pikachu's Winter Vacation Unreleased BGM - Route 1 (Music Box) and Route 1 (Christmas Arrangement) and I do not know why the narration sounds so crunchy I have a good mic, I think. Idk all my tech is hand-me-downs from my brother.
This time I decided on just one card, because I was working full time and did not have the time to make 6 cards again. This is the first time me and my boyfriend's characters weren't together, but this is because they had to cause chaos separately, builds more character for our poor team babysitter skldfjlsdfjsdkl. Do I think it's better than 2023? No, I don't know if I can ever top that again, but is it still pretty cool? Yeah. I had fun remembering that most of the B-team is 1 foot tall, except the suicuine who is an alpha and 10 feet ksdflkdsj. Made composition hard tbh but I made it work.
