By Great Division is meant the day when about the half of ex-mushroom smurfs left the village but the beginning of the event was about 30 years ago, when one teensmurf first unleashed the natural magic in public. He was a timid, absent-minded smurfling (~120 y. by that occur), called Philosopher, that was digging into elfish philosophy as well as smurfish. Elves always had natural magic, and in their peculiar world view Smurf found a key to magic possession. From idle curiosity he redesigned this with smurfish cultural values. And the result of his research had discovered magic abilities in Smurf. With a light trepidation he keep investigating it, untill the moment he unleashed it to save his friend.
Leader didn't punish the smurfling as it was used for good but forbade his research and magic practice since that moment. Gladly or not, Orator Smurf saw the potential in his discovery. And after getting details, he invented the concept of "every Smurf has magic" and popularized the new philosophical tendency. Orator got his name for a great eloquence, the ability to pluck up smurfs' spirits and even change minds, which made already him a political threat to Leader but before he'd been loyal. So, Philosopher, before claimed as useless, got the meaning of life — teaching the magic and researching it further; Orator had been realising his leading traits, gathering around himself cobfederates and debating with current Leader. The village became a battlefield for several decades. Main arguments of Leader's side were traditions and the danger of uncontrolled wild magic. But the more debats were lasting, the more control of their powers and the confidence rioters got. And, of course, their number increased, as the number of fighting between smurfs. It couldn't go on like that, so, Leader and Orator came to the agreement: hex smurfs leave on Spring, when the ice is melted and factions stop fighting.
Smurf natural magic in a nutshell:
★ In contrast to alchemistry Mushroom smurfs Leader possess, doesn't require ingredients, runes, words and so. It fuels from Smurf's energy and is controlled by their mind. After spelling Smurf can recover by taking a snack and/or a sleep
★ Only sinless smurfs can do magic. Any black band and they loses their powers untill they fixed it
★ There are magic all smurfs have — waterbending (comes from their Moon connection) and basic mental connection. The water, they bend, starts glowing blue. And at the moment it is holy water with all abilities of holy water in fantasy. Basic mental connection includes finding the path to the village in the unknown terrain, feeling other smurfs in 7-10 km, sharing magic energy, a common water spells. Also, some great-hex smurfs can write spells available to any other with the certain preparation, so, the list can be extended.
★ Every smurf has their special natural magic — fire (devils aren't immune to holy fire), speeding plant growth, reading thoughts and etc.
Last 5 years before leaving, hex smurfs came to several theories that ran through their culture.
REdiscover of magic theory. Very-very ancient smurfs had magic to, but the right on it was privatised by Leaders as a power instrument (Yk, those conspiracy theories, uh-huh). It spawned a trend on olden times, and they changed their clothes to "before the small ice age" style. As their powers reflects elements of Mother Nature, hex smurfs changed their names with natural objects, that illustrates their special magic (f. e. Philosopher→Smurf Poppy) or character (Orator→ Smurf Absinth).
Reincarnation theory. If you know what is poppy flowers to EU culture, you understand Poppy could speak with the deads. They told souls reincarnate in their family. And deja-vù is nothing as a blurry flashback from previous lives. Those "memories" can also influence on the character. Hex smurfs recorded their family tree with a small characteristic of every family member, and later found out that the soul is born with the same special natural magic every life.
She/her pronoun. Not a theory but the funny fact: non-magical races connected witchery with feminine energy, and mistake hex smurfs for girls (for their long tunics) or wingless MotherNature's fairies, so, they actually changed their pronoun.
Unfourtantely, after Great Division Mushroom smurfs survived through demographic crisis as most of young generation left rather stayed. The population fell from 429 to 198 in next 4 centuries.
Hex smurfs, in opposite, live in Magic Euphoria next 400-500 years in Middle East. They stored magical data at exponential rates and introduced into life:
★ As all smurfs bend water, in their common holiday dances they build a pattern by with waterbending. A common spell gives a strong unity feeling. And other smurfs can detect if someone don't participate, so, there's no need to check for black bands and punish Smurf for sins: he is already punished by being separated of the company.
★ In their philosophy everything in the world is connected, hence, the research of magic comes faster when it leads by company, hence, hex smurfs renounced of the concept "one proffesion = one Smurf" and came to the concept of institutes — Medical group research smurf bodies and heal them, Fundamental group — fundamental aspects of magic and physical laws (in Science Rise is divided on Artefacts, Physical and Electrical groups). With institutes hex smurfs can let themselves live without a leader for several decades if they don't go anywhere
★ Most common spells are non-practical in private life (like, how many times will every single smurf need call spirits for a sign how to name a baby?), take weeks or months to master and hand to leaders
★ They use petrifying plants for their houses
★ 1st vers. of school appears to teach smurflings magic, reading and writing (education takes ~40 years, usually starts at 40-70 years)
The electricity was discovered in the second generation by SmurfFlint (Handy in present life), observing his mom's lighting magic but it was ignored in Magic Euphoria untill the next epoch — Science Rise, when smurfs realised they can make their life on each other magic abilities. Simply, if there's no alive healer smurf it doesn't mean there shouldn't be a doctor. Common spells aren't very helpful. So, Hexs cope with a problem with building techs and artefacts (artefacts aka items that can complish certain 1-2 spells and charge with magic energy). Though, Hexs started to use the electricity, they have a big problem: they invert it from lightings and their own magic powers only. Well, untill the time they meets Mushroom smurfs again and they invent many other way to get the energy. Relucantly, Hex smurfs accept their ideas and share some their non-magical techs.
Humans evolve, start building their own civilization but still acts like barbarians (especially, if we talk about non-farmers, future kings and knights that just rob peaceful human farmers for now). Middle East stopped being a peaceful place to live, Hex smurfs migrated farther to East-South, and since then, their camps stay less than a smurf life.
Meeting rational human individuals gave Nomads an idea to "tame" them. Smurfs saved them from several monsters, like, dragons, shared their knowledges, which led to progress boom in China (80's series, "The Traveler" episode). They also taught the chosens with magic, raising the first druids in humankind. Present Father Time was one of those druids, that's why he forgives smurfs playing with time. At first, humans actually helped smurfs with fighting evil, but after that inspired archedevils taught the jealous unchosens with black magic amd alchemistry by War III.
The human project failed. It was changed with Moonrise project that led them to migrate by the ocean, and which divided them later, but in hearts ex-Nomads still see each other as one nation.
★ Main battle power at Smurf-elfish War II&III against Devils due to smurf natural magic = white magic
★ It happened that before some Dessert smurfs married to Nomads and immigrate in their nation there were no artistic smurfs. No poetry, no fiction, no dance technics (just moving body parts randomly), no painting. Surprisely, their clothes looked nice, because the best portraits look like this:
★ At the start, there was only one smurf with purple hair. At the end, the mutation spread on 45% of population.
★ At the end, the school education took 85-90 years, contenting of reading, writing, math basics, magic, History, Music (music helps concentrate on magic), survival and battle skills. If a smurfling went to school at her 30-40's, acquisition of profession (doctor/mechanic/artefact-maker...) usually starts at 100's (before finishing the school). The period depends on the profession itself, how good optimised the edu programme and how much knowledges are collected in the area
★ Such leaders as Absinth and her reincarnation Pepper lied so strong nationalistic feelings that it could led smurfs to vanity. For example, the "black boom of vanity' happened after the liхne of victories in War III, which turned into the line of defeats as Nomads relied on magic much.
Even those smurfs, who didn't fall for vanity, still act very proud, claiming themselves as the most progressive smurfs, tho, adding that all smurfs can be like that, it depends on the upbringing only and they always "are here to help". (No wonder, Mushroom smurfs detest them, lol)
