Typography

Overall I found this project to be challenging as we had to come up with many diffrent ideas and felt like there was mini projects within this project.

What I enjoyed the most was the experiments I did this really helped me get s good idea of what I wanted but I did also struggle to find what could work together with typography. My favourite would have to be the laser cut though I wish I had more time I think I would of gone down that route for a final peice but the lino print was still a good choice I feel, though it's hard to get a neat stenical it was easy and good to use I loved the texture I got from the out come.

Steven Heller is a very graphic typographer but he gave me inspiration for my laser cut ink prints especally my layerd print wich looked like 3D glases. His work is very block like with alot of transparency. He likes to work with alot of blues and reds and yellow.

These are my almost finished final peices that u developed using my lino print I ended up really likeing just the simplistic out like wochbi will now fill with my quote and fonts I created from the start of my book.

My first lay out idea I started of simple as I wanted to see how long my quote would look on the page I wanted somthing that worked from top to bottom I like the idea of haveing diffrent sizes.

Next I tried to develop my illusion idea but stoped as I realised it would be to complicated and time consuming also the font would be to hard to see .

I started also working with diffrentbcolourd paper to see what would work well.

One Idea I had was to angle my quote at diffrent angles and sizes with diffrent sizes but I felt like I could develop this idea further which I them moved on to somthing a bit more illustrated and visual by drawing a ribbon and wood plank wich was inspired by my laser print at the bottom I drew a tube of paint witch I developed into a combination of to of my ideas.

This artist is a very expressive typographer and fine artist I found his work to be one of the key inspirations to my work as he uses alot of colour and paint.

I like some of her sketched work with diffrent shades of pencil. His work though is a bit hard to read staringt away but gets your brain thinking. His work is almost like an illusion as you look and see hidden diffrent fonts and numbers.

Is a type designer and caligrapher i wanted to look at some hand drawn artists as i like to work alot with hand drawn work than computer work.

He's typography has alot of flow to his work and layers he typically works with black and gold. Somthing I found with typographer is they always use a set amount of colour.

What I like alot about his work is the patterns he uses and alot of cymetry.

What I feel the client is asking is for a poster and instagram size poster that will motivate and inspire people 16 and up around the creative area in the college and social media.

Typographer and graphic designer nerville Brody has a very unique style he sticks to a simplistic but detailed typography art I found he also uses alot of reds and yellows wich gave me inspiration in my work to stick to certain colours.

Alot of his work are in capitals and bold he uses alot of curves or sharp edges in his work.

Stefan sagmeister is a graphic designer and typographer he uses a wide range of diffrent media's from digital to an actual human as a canvas alot of his typography looks band writen in diffrent matters.

To get some ideas for what I could use for my final peice I created some fonts by getting traceing paper and using the word "Design" wich was in "san-serif" font and we had to create the tried fonts I'm "serif" and then do it again but switching the font types. I found this to help me get some great ideas and I a final choosen font but I still need to do more development to see if this is definetly the font I want to use. While doing this I tried to be veried and do some very textured and some very simple desighns.

I started in pencil and then for the final font done pen.

Firstly we choose a font we created and then we put it in illustrator to clean it up and make it so it can be put into the laser cutter. My choose font was a bit to detailed for the laser cutter as the lines where to close together as my font to begin with was made to look 3D but so I could experiment with the laser cutter I made it 2D but I still liked how it looked. Once it was uploaded to the laser cutter and cut out I had to collect all the prices and then start working on the print press wich we started of with embossing wich leaves indents In paper we first start by putting water clour paper in a tray of water this helps the indent to be more prominent, next you get your laser cut put it on top and roll it througj the press makeing sure it doesnt move. I feel this workrd well but not for a poster. After this we moved on to using ink now this was very difficult as too much ink on your laser cut peice smudges and bleeds all over the paper but I really liked the out come especally with a colour over black as it looks like 3D glases.

Typography has been around for longer than you expect and started of more as illustrations than words itself for example the first type of communication was cave paintings dateing back to the 20,000 b.c wich then moved to Egyptians who are still very visual, they developed hieroglyphics which where used for dyscriptions.

Phoenicians are peopke who created the very first alphabet and by 1600 B.C. Phoenicians developed phonograms, or symbols used to represent spoken words. The same alphabet used was also used by the Greeks and the word Alphabet is a combination of the first two Greek letters, Alpha and Beta.

Around the time of the middle ages many new writing styles had been created which then moved to caligrphy being strongly studied as people would travel to share there knowledge and to gain new styles. Typography was also used for manuscripts wich also help development with placement and layouts.

As anouthrr experimentation we done lino printing where we drew some small typography on some paper then used a light box to flip the image by drawing it on the back and then using that as a stencil but placing it on top of a sheet of polostoren once are desgin was done we then choose a colour of paint and pressed the desighn on some paper since the desighn on the sheet is backwards when printed it goes back the right way.

Next we then choose a final desighn and printed a A4 size font letter. I choose a font I desgind from a previous experimentation and it came out really well as I used layers of printing to help with a 3D look the overall look looked space like and spray paint.

I have started to experiment using bits of strips of magazines to create a font I feel this is a great way of using a graphic looking texter but not on a computer it's self.

The next experimental fonts I used was using tissue paper and overlaying it to get diffrent depth of colours I also cut them in diffrent shapes for an abstract look. I feel this was great look for a poster but more for a younger age group so not best for my poster.

I then moved on to using a scalpel to cut letters out of paper and make flaps to give a bit of 3d to a 2d page. I didn't like this as much it was a bit boring and bit too simplistic for me personally and for my poster.

Typography in 2019 gets used every day and without it the world would be a bit lost.

Alot of typography gets used for advertising and is always in our face you walk down a road and it's on busses, in shop fronts, on phones and computers.
