Basically he had test driven the Merc for 2 years, including sim work.

Alex had done no such things before entering Toro Rosso, apparently he did 4 test drives in total.

So Alex has done 4 test drives and 12 races in a midfield team, before getting promoted to a top team. And he did fkn amazing, dropping off a bit in the 2020 season only. Bottomline is, guy is talented as hell, and this off-year might bring him some seriously needed time to practice free of pressure like he should've done before driving in F1 at all. He'll be back and so much stronger, I can't wait.

he also has a beautiful comeback story after a serious crash (in indy i think) which he broke both legs, used to have to crawl to get into places, got back to racing before he was fully healed, and with this, he impressed the shit out og gunther and gene. 

im trying this again so this is my favourite moment from abu dhabi 2020 because:

(1) George is out here leading his little Twitch Quartet and, as always, being the only one to wear the End Racism shirt without his fireproofs on underneath @ grid photogs where are you when he’s getting changed? (2) Charles apparently having so much to say to Alex that he needs to stop and enthusiastically gesture at Alex & continue to talk his ear off the entire time (i’m not saying that he’s talking about how much Seb loves him but that’s exactly what i’m saying) (3) Carlos????? did not leave Lando’s side for one (1) minute of the last race???? i’m not crying you’re crying
