What helped me write trauma better is remembering that the nervous system learns predictions. If danger used to come after quiet, calm can feel threatening. If kindness used to come with a price, kindness can feel suspicious. So healing is not just “they know they’re safe now.” Healing is the slow, annoying, deeply unfair process of teaching the body that the old prediction is not always the present truth.

Satyr/Centaur/Faun Whumpee having their hooves neglected. They grow abnormally long, twisting around causing extreme difficulty walking and pain from the unnatural positions of the feet. If left too long without bathing, they may get an invasion of bacteria and fungi that destroys the hoof-wall tissue, resulting in white line disease. Another fun possibility is Thrush, in which dark, sometimes black, ooze shows on the underside of the hooves, severe infection makes it excruciating to walk, and a rotting odor emanates from the hooves.

CHARACTER DEATHS IDEAS!!

.⋆♱ She kept saying his name like it would do something. Like if she said it enough times the universe would get tired of hearing it and give him back.

.⋆♱ "Stay awake," he told her, and she laughed, actually laughed, which was somehow worse than anything else. "You're going to have to give me a better reason than that," she said. He couldn't think of one fast enough. He's never forgiven himself for that.

.⋆♱ The machines made a sound and everyone in the room knew what it meant and nobody moved for a long time. His mother was the first one to reach him. She smoothed his hair back the way she used to when he was small and said, very quietly, there you go, baby. There you go.

.⋆♱ "Does it hurt?" she asked. He thought about lying. He'd been lying to her for months, what was one more. "No," he said. She looked at him for a long moment. "You were always terrible at that," she said softly, and held his hand tighter, and didn't let go.

.⋆♱ Nobody tells you that death smells like something. That it has a texture, a sound, a particular quality of light. She'd read about it in books and none of them got it right. None of them mentioned that the hardest part is the moment the room goes quiet and you realize you've been waiting for them to say something and they're not going to.

But when it came to it she was so small in that bed and she looked at him with so much love and everything he'd planned dissolved. "Hi," he said. "Hi," she said back.

.⋆♱ "Tell me something good," she said. Her voice was going thin, stretched out at the edges. He looked around the room—the bad lighting, the cold floor, the blood that was both of theirs now. "Remember that summer," he started, "the one where the car broke down and we had to sleep in that terrible motel—" "The one with the broken fan," she said, and almost smiled. "Yeah," he said. "Yeah, that one." He kept talking until she stopped hearing him.

.⋆♱ "You're going to forget me," she said. "You're going to forget what I sound like and then what I smell like and then it'll be little things, the small stuff —" "Stop," he said. "I won't." But he has. Pieces of her. And he hates himself every time he reaches for something and finds it gone.

.⋆♱ They found him with his book still open. Page 247. She bought the same edition, read to 246, put it down. She doesn't know why. She thinks she's waiting for something. Permission, maybe. She doesn't know who she's waiting to get it from.

.⋆♱ "It's not supposed to go like this," he said, mostly to himself, kneeling on the ground with hands that couldn't do anything useful anymore. "I know," she said. "I know." She was talking to him but she was also talking to the sky, to whatever was up there, to anything that might be listening.

.⋆♱ She was fine and then she found his handwriting on a grocery list stuck to the back of a drawer and she sat on the kitchen floor for a very long time.

When it creeps: • Foreboding — the air feels wrong before anything actually happens. • Ominousness — silence that feels almost... purposeful. • Misgiving — your instincts tugging at your sleeve, whispering, "Don't."

When it hits fast: • Shock — your brain blanks • Startled— your heart slams, you inhale • Panic — thoughts fracture; your instincts beg for escape

When it lingers: • Tension — jaw locked, shoulders up near your ears. • Anxiety — background noise that lingers in every thought • Dread — knowing something bad is coming and having to wait for it.

When it turns physical: • Shivers — cold crawling up the spine. • Sweat, dilated pupils, skin gone pale — your own body betrays you. • Weakness — knees like jelly, grip unreliable.

When it overwhelms: • Terror — too big to think around. • Horror — something has gone wrong. • Paralysis — body refusing orders.

lesser known PTSD things in whump

note; these are my personal experiences. i am clinically diagnosed with complex post traumatic stress disorder and also study psychology, and PTSD in general shows up very differently in all people. please be mindful of this information. --- anywho! many a times i see PTSD in whump and in general being represented as flashbacks, nightmares, avoidant behaviour, and so on which isn't wrong or exaggerated, just coming on here with some more symptoms or issues i don't see often, mainly physical manifestations. feel free to give your whumpees an even harder time <3 1. Trauma literally rewires the brain and its no joke. The amygdala is in overdrive constantly. Whumpee's always on edge. The hippocampus reduces in size, and boom, eventually you're losing your mind and your memories of what happened. Now whumpee has little to make sense of why they are the way they are, and whatever they recall is so blurred it's driving them insane. 2. Getting triggered by a smell, sound, even a sensation on the body, like the wind on the skin 'rubbing off' the wrong way and Whumpee's suddenly spiraling. What's worse is the moment itself is so distressing they disassociate before they can help it. It takes hours to come back to their own body and realize that they can't remember anything except feeling lost and terrified that they can't even calm down. And they don't even know or remember why. 3. Following up on the previous prompt, outsiders will have a hard time telling if Whumpee is upset, sleep-deprived or tired (could be!) or simply out of it. Eyes glazed over, expression slack. Maybe their eyebrows are furrowed slightly. They stare into the distance and only hum back responses or a few syllables. Later into the day, somebody asks them what they're angry about. Whumpee stops, and thinks. What are they even upset about? They don't know. 4. Just fucked up hormones in general :/ Effective for female whumpees, intense stress levels interfere with hormone production and can infact halt your menstrual cycle. I struggled with this & when my cycle actually resumed the cramps were like 10x worse than what they were before lol. Additionally, some studies also report that PTSD symptoms worsen during the menstrual phases. Not fun. 5. The immune system of a Victorian child. Falling sick way too often. Headaches that don't go away. Digestive issues that give a Whumpee stomach cramps every time they even try to eat (this varies a lot). AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES OF ANY SORT!! Alot more things that can wrong. LOTS of potential for non-whumper whump. --- all from me for now. based on some unfortunate experiences i've had in the past year :'). hope this helps someone or so

little to none. i do this for the love of the game and vibes

i know a little bit— basics and movie tropes, but dont pay much attention

i know a lot of basic stuff but i research specifics when necessary

i have researched thoroughly and honestly could maybe administer first aid

i hyperfixate on whump. i research often and have a great grasp in the concepts

i work in healthcare.
