Casa Marcella, an open door for a safe shelter. 

“If we find ourselves at the edges, forced in a corner, it’s not our fault. It’s the fault of a civil society that denies us a space to live in”- Marcella di Folco 

Casa Marcella is an open door for a safe shelter. A temporary welcoming place for trans and nonbinary people who don’t have a home or are running away from violence. Casa Marcella is situated in a safe place of Tuscany, but it needs to be renovated and furnished to accomplish its mission and open the door of a serene life to who had it denied to them. 

Turn on the lights of Casa Marcella. 

Casa Marcella is the project of the associations Consultorio Transgenere and Nelumbo for the creation of a shelter house dedicated to the memory of Marcella Di Folco, trans activist and politicist, historic president of the MIT (Movimento Identità Trans), disappeared in 2010. A temporary welcoming place for trans and nonbinary people that for this reason are victim of discrimination and violence. 

Casa Marcella is a service of assistance in emergency, dedicaed to people who live in a condition of rejection and isolation from their family, friends and society. 

Most of trans people in Italy face great difficulties coming out because of the fear of feeling rejected and finding themselves alone, with no place to live in. Very often teens find their belongings packed outside of their homes, the doors’ locks changed. Adult trans people don’t start transiction in fear of losing their job, home and family just as often. 

We’re talking about people who need a safe home where they can find protection and regain strenght, in a comfortable and serene enviroment where they can freely express their identity. 

Inside of Casa Marcella there will be specific programs and individual psychological support designed to ensure economic autonomy and social inclusion for users. From accompanying them to the territorial services looking for a job, to career guidance at the access of social services, inside of Casa Marcella they can make an important step towards a life free from fear. 

Objective 

The apartment will accomodate up to six people, plus two more in case of emergency. We need: 

NEW IMPLANTS: light, water and heating to make the house livable. 

KITCHEN: let’s bring the smell of coffee and the chance of a meal to anyone who is a guest. 

BATHROOM: let’s create the right condition to benefit from the structure’s services. 

To open the doors of Casa Marcella we must replace the hydraulic system and the kitchen’s tiles, renovate the bathroom from sanitaries to the boiler. In general, we need a restoration of the electrical system and heating system, painting and cleaning. To make it a Home, we also need: a kitchen and a welcoming dining room, bedrooms, home appliances and linen. 

Together we’ll build a dignified and comfortable apartment, a safe landing to start over from.

“Islam is not a simple religion where everything is calm, tolerance is pushed, and people just want to live in peace.

Islam is like spending your life in a dystopian future where a system inside of you watches your every thought and every step.

That system does not only torture you, it also tortures everything that gets close to it, and once it is significantly present in a land, it won’t leave unaffected, unrelated people alone either.

It is a dangerous ideology, not even a religion. It is an oppressive system and I can’t even find enough words to express that.

No one should believe in it, no one should condone it, no one should downplay it, and no one should invite it.

Most importantly, no one should treat it like just another harmless religion.

It is not.
