It was a great Saturday morning. Not-that great, but it was different from another Saturdays. A biggest art exhibition was our destination. My friends were busy to take some photos in front of those showpieces. Meanwhile me, got lost alone in crowd while enjoyed a huge acrylic painting. I was captivated by it.
I took a long minutes to scan the whole canvas. I couldn’t stop to say ‘it’s awesome’ inside my head.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Suddenly, a guy in the same age as me- i thought- appeared beside me.
I was surprised, then I looked up to that guy. He observed the painting too and I saw that he tried to hold his smile.
Who is that guy? I thought.
I just simply responded him, “Yes…, it’s beautiful.” Then I smiled a little.
“It’s nice to hear those words,” he said randomly.
“Sorry?”
He chuckled then continued his sentence, “It was my dream since kindergarten to hear something like that. I have a close friend, we both like art. She always mocked me that my painting was ugly and she said she never want to see my paintings. She didn’t know that it motivated me, a lot. Thus, I dreamed and promised to myself.” He shrugged a while. “Sometimes she behaved like that and sometimes she behaved the opposite, I always rolled my eyes and laughed it off when I faced her unique behaviors.”
At first, I just gigled as a response, but I realized something. “Err… that’s mean… this painting is yours?” I scrunched my forehead while looked at him who was busy enjoyed the painting.
In a second, he turned his head toward me. “What do you think?” He smiled.
I was totally lost by this conversation. I ended up observed that guy from his not-so wavy hair to his shoes. But, he wear a committee identity t-shirt?! A committee who paint too?! I thought like that. Then, I remembered that the committee worn a name tag so I could check his name on his name tag with the painter’s name.
A name tag circled on his neck with his name written on it. Then I read the painter’s name beside the painting frame. And… I thought I could answer his last question.
