Just something I wanted to let you know, from someone who has been in the bbc sherlock fandom until the very bitter end (me):
This sucks on a lot of levels. I get that and I don’t like certain aspects of it as well.
For a lot of people, this feels like losing a friend, comfort and a sense of belonging. Many feel betrayed, angry and sad.
And those feelings are VALID. Feel them, talk about them, express them, you have every right to do so. It‘s ok, you’re rightfully angry and let me give you a hug🫂
But please, please don’t let it consume you as a whole. I‘ve been there, done that and it was torture. It was stressful, took up way too much energy and made my comfort show into something that didn’t bring me joy any more.
But that’s what fandom is about. JOY is the sole purpose of it, loving characters and shows, seeing myself in my fave character, create little headcanons, write fanfics, create fanart. These are the things that MATTER. Also, all the friends you make along the way. The sense of community, love and belonging.
If that doesn’t apply to you any more, please take a breather. Take good care of yourself and occupy yourself with things that still bring you joy.
And maybe, just maybe you‘ll return and I‘m sure tons of fix it fics and art are just waiting for you♥️
Because those characters belong to everyone- not just the authors or prime. They’re ours as well and we will do with them whatever we damn want. And it‘s just as real and „valid“ as the sometimes overly glorified „canon“. Everything is canon if you want it to be, I mean who‘s gonna tell you what to do? No one has the right to do that.
I love you all, please take care of yourself and remember, there’s a life outside of fandom that can also be quite fulfilling. I‘ll be there if you decide to come back to our little, delusional but very happy bubble♥️
