He’s just never expected… well, this. “Don’t think that this changes anything between us,” he warns, voice stern and eyes narrowed at the blonde in front of him. “You will only disappoint yourself.” Not that he cares if the little fairy is disappointed or not. Of course he doesn’t! Serissa simply confuses him, that’s where this is coming from. She’s like a complicated puzzle that he just cannot crack and it’s as frustrating as it is intriguing. There’s no predicting what she’s going to do next, what she’s going to ask of him and there’s too much at stake for Solo to allow himself to feel endeared.

Another exceptionally generous offer for Serissa, to the point both France and her father would be shocked she was being this nice to someone outside of her inner circle — even if they’d disapprove of her behavior. “If it factors into your decision, I treat those who’ve successfully repaid a debt to me much more favorably. But the choice is yours.”

“Thanks for coming with me, dude.” His flashlight cuts through the night, illuminating the path they’re taking. Normally, Brooks wouldn’t been caught dead at the forest this late night but he’d been sent to investigate the “ghostly thing” near the lake that had freaked out a couple of younger pack members last night. Brooks had said they were probably high. Mary had told him to go check it out anyway. Thank fuck he’d at least been allowed to bring Collen along. His heightened hearing picks up on every miniscule sound, the rustling of leaves in the trees, the not-so-distant snapping of twigs, and each and every one of them sending his heart beating faster and faster. “What are we even supposed to do if we see a spirt? Won’t our claws and teeth just go straight through them? This is bullshit. They should have had a witch or Quinn or something else check this out.”

He sweeps his flashlight across the tree line again, freezing when he hears a stick break awfully close to him. A soft growl forms in his throat, but before he can shift a rabbit darts across their path. Okay, so maybe Collen was on edge with all this ghost talk tonight too. “Fuck! What the fuck was that?”

“This was a really stupid idea.” Though she’s not even hungry and she’s pinching her nose to avoid the delicious smell of fresh blood permeating the air, Harlowe’s fangs are out, practically begging for her to sink them into the other. She’s doing a shit job at playing nurse, barely looking as she half-heartedly cleans up their wound so she can avoid further temptation. “You couldn’t have found anyone else to do this for you?”

“Seri would have asked for my soul or something equally as horrible, and Ches would absolutely flip shit about this if I went to her. I’d rather take my chances with you.” Plus, if anything would make up for the fact he’d gotten his ass kicked any better, it would be Harlowe sinking her teeth into him and using him as a snack. Sure, he appreciated her attempts to resist the urge to drink from him, the way she pinched her nose and turned away from the sight and smell, but she really didn’t have to. “You’re doing a great job, I clearly went to the right person.”

The thing about living for over two centuries is that you get to see a lot of shit, each stranger than the next. Clemencia’s involuntarily vanishing acts wouldn’t even make his top ten right now. Maybe they could have, a hundred or more years ago when he was still fairly green, but certainly not at present and not after knowing her for a while. The only thing he feels when he notices it happen is concern but he manages to rein it in now, force his face into something neutral; she’s clearly already stressed enough without hearing about that. “Clem,” he cuts in, voice serious but not unkind, eyebrows arched ever so slightly. “It’s okay, you’re okay. And I don’t think it’s unfair to me, at all. I’ve got literally the rest of eternity and I wouldn’t mind spending it all waiting for you.” And though he fully and truly means it, Wesley moves on from the last comment quickly, before the weight of it can settle over them. He softens it, too, with a small, friendly smile sent her way and a tentative sip of his drink so he can actually answer Clem’s question. “It’s… pretty good, actually. You know, for a coffee. Could do with some more milk maybe but it’s fine. I think I’d like something sweet with it… what about you?”

It’s okay, you’re okay. Clem forces her lungs to take another breath following Wesley’s words, the air sharp as she inhales. It didn’t feel okay at the moment, but she supposed nothing usually did when she was in this state. How could it when her hand was flickering in and out of limbo, like a bulb moments from blowing? But despite how wrong her entire body feels, the unease coursing throughout every atom of her being, her expression softens immediately the moment she processes the tail end of his words. “I’d rather spend eternity with you though." The whisper is soft, barely spoken as she reaches for her own cup of coffee, warmth radiating through it into her fingertips as she finally takes a sip. How long was she going to be able to enjoy this moment before— she sets her drink down moments before her hand vanishes again. For a brief moment she stares at it, eyes watering as she takes another deep breath. Wesley was right here, she was safe, and here she was, yet again, overthinking herself right into the situation she feared the most. “I could go for something sweet, actually. It’s not often I let myself indulge like this, and I think we both deserve something nice.” A small smile forms on her lips as she glances back up at him, reaching for her coffee again and taking another sip. “Is there something in particular you want though? We could bake, if you want to.”
