oh, what a way to start off pride month :"-)

i genuinely cried tears of joy when i saw the post of killer in a trans jacket; even more so when i saw superyoumna's drawings of these two in pride outfits.

when the posts about recognizing the trans allegory with cross were made, i was so estatic for one of the most popular and influential sanses to be at least trans-coded & drawn to show support, if not actually canonly trans. then those posts were deleted, erased after a little while, with no further outward word or support towards the community from jakei. it was a hurtful disappointment that made the support seem insincere.

to see killer confirmed to be trans and with a gay man, without any cowardice or shame — no backpedaling, or hesitation — makes me so happy and seen, as i'm sure many other trans UTMV fans feel too because of this. in a time where hatred and fear towards transgender people is at an a terrifying high, all of us around the world are going through horrible hardships. representation of us in media is becoming less and less common, because it's not "trendy" to support us anymore. so as a trans person, thank you. 💛

There's a bed but one of them usually opts to sleep in the front seat cus of privacy. They take turns sleeping in the Comfy Bed every few nights. The King ends up decorating the van's exterior at the tail end of his redemption arc and so they're legit just hopping from state to state in a knockoff scooby van

I wonder if after a while Avery would get tired of juggling both evading the DMS and helping people with their supernatural problems. And he'd start to push back more for the sake of Derek's health and their own stress levels. Cus maybe the DMS starts catching on and starts tracking their clients to see where they'll turn up next. Derek wants to keep pushing for the people that reach out to them, even though DMS is breathing down their neck.

Maybe they get nicked. Who knows. But methinks there would be a breaking point where the van breaks down and they're getting actively hunted by government officials and Derek and Avery argue the shit out of what their next plan should be.

"We need to find a way to get to them (person who reached out) we can find a way around the DMS"

Every time Avery uploads, his fans play a game of trying to figure out in which state he is rn, because (for obvious reasons) Avery never mentions where they are now. It's a more complicated version of GeoGuessr because it's a video, so you have to either zoom in on different backgrounds or try to decipher the hidden meaning behind Avery and Derek's conversations

ALSO YESSSS they customize the van, which is not that great for blending in, but hey, if you are on the run from the government, you might as well have fun with it. Do it in a style. King repaints it every now and then to keep it fresh and interesting. Avery would be the one often sleeping in the front seat, cuz Derek still feels like shit most of the time and Avery is usually the one driving (one bed trope can save them, ONE BED TROPE CAN FIX THEM)

Also, a hilarious thought that King had some knowledge of how to help Avery and Derek, but never did anything because it was funnier to watch UNTIL the threat became real. After this, he is like, "okay little squad pack it up," and actively helps them get out of the jam and get to their client in time to help them.

We're twenny minutes in and Derek cant sleep, he's worried about Avery and doesn't like the idea of him freezing his ass off all night and not getting any rest. The bed has lots of blankets..... and its warm..... and he doesn't particularly mind........

So he invites him to come sleep in the bed with him. And its silly and awkward and initially Avery is like "uhm. What. But you're in there?"

"You're gunna freeze to death just get in here please" <- def hyperbole but cmon can you blame a guy

So he slips into bed with him and yeah its a heck ton warmer than the front seat. Anywhere on the sheets Derek hasn't been curled up is frigid cold but his body heat and the thick blankets are.... cozy, in all honesty. And maybe Derek would say something ridiculously nonsubtle and nervous like "well err so this is more beneficial because now we've got double the body warmth which meaaanss this night isnt gunna be as trecherously cold as we thought it would be. Efficiency! I wont get sick and you can actually get some sleep."

Evil thought but what if they ended up chatting and then Avery falls asleep mid conversation and then they wake up and as it turns out they'd been cuddling the whooolleee night without realizing. Cus Avery wiggles around in his sleep in that clingy way and at some point latches onto Derek because he's warm. Spooning him like a favorite stuffed animal. Nervous silliness ensues.

They certainly had to keep sharing that bed for a few more nights.

Maybe they decide on a compromise to keep sharing a bed until they save enough money to buy heated blanket (I imagine whatever they had saved before going on the run+Avery’s income from youtube channel+Derek’s morally ambiguous usage of infinite knowledge to win lottery tickets is not really enough to pay for van’s service and King’s increasing demands)

And when they finally managed to buy one, you can see just how they both not really happy about not sharing a bed anymore, so the next excuse is that its still cold and hey, they can keep sharing a bed until the end of winter.

The next excuse is that Avery naturally runs hot and Derek is always cold, sooooo…..They keep finding excuses to share a bed and the King is so sick of them, he just astroprojects and drives for the rest of the night, just to not deal with those two

Actually, the idea of King being a mechanic man(thing?entity?) He got attached to the van and takes care of it, like it is his baby. Also the image of King driving and Avery and Derek lying down together, listening to other’s breathing and the hum of the engine. Marvelling at how weird their life becomes for something like this to be considered normal. Welcomed even.

Also also the additional idea of King knowing where his cultists based on and driving to their location. Avery and Derek has no idea if it a last ditch attempt to get a vessel or King just likes torturing them (its kind of both. The first time King got the wheel he is absolutely driving to the closest compound with his cultists. Later on ge just like visiting them (also also additional conflict of cultists misunderstanding King and not doing what he wants them to do??)

The King gets to witness all these sweet moments between Derek and Avery (who have no idea how gay they're being at all. Not even remotely) and it aids in him growing to care for them as friends. Seeing how much humanity and care these two 20-somethings have for each other shows the King what being human and alive and mortal is all about, it aids his arc along with him discovering the awesomeness of art and cars heheh.

Okok the King in Yellow is described as an art god cus he only reaches his cultists and victims THROUGH artistic means, like in the play and the minecraft world yk? So maybe he's always had a deep understanding of what art means bc... well he IS art basically. But he's never really gotten down and actually felt the animalistic joy of creating something with his own hands, sicne usually he could just snap it into being before he got trapped in Derek's head. So he gets to experience this brand new faucet of art and he LOVES it

There is a difference between the final product of art and the process of creating. The flow that carries you when you do stuff, the way you made mistake and then fix them or implement them. The process of you becoming better bit by bit, of figuring out the rules and feeling proud of yourself next time you get it right immediately. It is addictive to get his own hands dirty with paint and oil and then feel with his own fingers the final result of his actions. The King understands now how was it for his followers when his play swallow their mind or their art impacting them more than they thought.

Also yesss King witnessing such care and devotion from people who don’t even know each other. Or well, do know each other, but only from one side. And to such extent, that if not the circumstances of their meeting, their relationship would be considered…simply too weird. Not rational. Even toxic to some extent. Yet, they choose to stay with each other and learn and even out the differences in their understanding of each other. Its a tedious process, with many ups and downs. Some things are easier to change and adjust, while others are not negotiable. There is a line between staying true to yourself and changing everything about yourself to accommodate the other.

And it’s an entirely different issue of staying close to each other when on the run from the government. Is it the convenience? Smart decisions on not letting DMS take the other and allow a chance to spill valuable information? Or simply, out of childish pity to not let DMS win anything?

It’s unusual for King. No matter how he observes them, he doesn’t get it. The fragments dont align with each other, like a text that was put through two different cyphers and then stacked on top of each other.

He settles on the explanation that it is simple biological response. The fox and the rabbit may spend a cold winter storm together, for they are both stuck. They may get along with each other, even come to some understanding between one another.

But humans are cruel. And cruelty is their biological instinct. Whether because of love or despair, sooner or later things will snap. The fox hunger is bigger than its love for the rabbit.

That’s what he thinks. Until they are stuck in the middle of the nowhere. Until their van is broken and until DMS is on their tail. Until there is a person somewhere out there about to fall into the clutches of unknown.

Until Avery and Derek are arguing and they seem on the verge of breaking whatever relationship was built between them.

One sentence full of cruelty and fuelled by despair is enough to separate the two.

Only for this to not happen.

The same way waves separate before coming together, Avery and Derek don’t cross the line. They are angry and desperate, yet never cruel. It would have been so easy to finally let frustrations out and blame it then on the emotions and yet they never do.

They come together, the way waves do. Under the force stronger than anything else in the world.

Thats when the King gets it.

Thats when he puts his book down and decides to help.

And before anyone will say that the fact that even we, the audience, someone who has a little bit more omnipresence in the narrative than characters in the story, STILL don't know much about Derek - get wrecked sucker, I said it first

Anyway, back to Derek's character. What facts do we know about him that we got directly from sftwtde and dawtde

He is extremely intelligent and, in a similar vein, pretty self-arrogant. He thinks he is smarter than whatever is playing with him. He mines through the door despite solving the riddle. He makes traps for whatever is following him. He plays the game and plays it to win

He doesn't like showing his weaknesses. Doesn't like the idea of admitting that he is scared. Fake it till you make it vibe

He doesn't negotiate with people. He found a way to destroy the King, and instead of discussing it with Avery, he sends him on a fool's errand. He deliberately goes behind Avery's back, thinking that it will protect him, without asking Avery's opinion on the matter

He likes to have the last word.

It paints a certain picture of Derek, as someone who is confident in himself and his abilities. Who can go toe to toe with eldritch horror. Someone who, even when he is afraid, still manages to get the upper hand.

The stoic knight. A warrior of the mind. Mysterious and unknown.

But...At the same time

Upon learning everything about the universe, with past, present, and future, the first thing he did was warn Avery. He didn't try making a deal with King or using the knowledge for his own benefit. Instead, he ran back all the way from the gates to the mine, and he wrote a book, hoping against hope, that it would be enough to save Avery. A random person from billions of people.

He puts signs in the church because he knows that if Avery walks through the door, he also would be compelled to go investigate. He writes, "You are real. You are special. Remember who you are."

He doesn't expect Avery to know everything. He can go at the same pace as Avery, in order to help him understand. He jokes and makes light of the situation.

He is extremely alone

He doesn't like writing final letters

He was ready to sacrifice himself and not Avery, because from his words, "Avery has so much to live for." completely ignoring that he does too.

His way of convincing Avery is saying that maybe Avery wouldn't even remember him, despite his worst fear being forgotten.

The last thing he does before he dies is write a letter to Avery. Thanking him. Reassuring him. Asking him to keep moving forward.

Kind of goes against what we saw before, right? How can someone who is so mysterious and secretive make time to joke around? How can someone who likes having the last word not like to write a final letter? How could someone who does not negotiate with people choose to sacrifice himself for the other?

He is a college dropout. He was raised by a single mother. He used to play piano.

I think Derek is someone who is ready to do everything for people he loves, yet thinks he doesn't deserve love in return. Only if he earns it. Only if he does something that makes the love worth it. I think he would be someone who would have a hard time opening up to people, but would be absolutely devoted to them. I think he would hate himself for doing things for other people, knowing that it would guarantee him nothing, yet doing it anyway because it is the right choice.

TheMostMayo sounds like something a child would make and then use it until adulthood. d3rlord3 sounds too deliberate, like someone spent time creating a gametag that not only has an actual meaning behind it, but also sounds cool.
