I dont subscribe to the theory that azula would turn on ozai if he actually had zuko killed/if zuko died carrying out his dad's wishes. like this is the girl who smiled and clenched her fist in victory as she saw her brother's face being burned off. I do think she'd steadily descend into insanity though, propelled by the notion that even being the firelord's son isn't enough to save one from his rage. the thing is, azula has always had the security blanket of zuko's existence. his weakness made her look stronger, his cowardice made her look brave. now that he's dead, all the attention of the firelord, all his hopes are focused on her, and her only. she'd try even harder to be the perfect soldier, ozai's perfect little warrior, and go a little mad with it.

basically the point of this is to set up the pre-agni kai scene, except this time azula doesn't hallucinate her mother, she hallucinates zuko. zuko who keeps asking her why she let him die, didn't she know he loved her? azula telling him no, you hated me, how could you not hate me, I was better than you in every way! how could you be so pathetic as to love me! and zuko replying, haven't you lied to yourself long enough, azula? you know I loved you. I was the only one who ever did.

you know that one scene from supernatural? where dean's dream self tells him all those things he never could admit to himself. "dad knew who you really were, good soldier and nothing else. daddy's blunt little instrument." azula hallucinating zuko telling her that.
