What citizens of Malmö do on weekends. 

Feeling the distance from the city while I am in it. Lovin it!

Boxes of fruits, vegetables, eggs and flowers, the market stalls rises. People in loud and lively debates, laughing and arguing. It is early in the morning but the market is awake. As I approaches the square I hear a sellsman screaming out his best prices on fresh mango. It is crowded of people with different origins and cultures. I just stand there for a second, watching. Trying to taking it all in. I close my eyes and I am not sure if I am still in Malmö or in the Middle East. I did my research and Möllevångstorget is not that old. About one hundred years ago when Malmö was surrounded of cropland, this was the place where the windmills were placed. Lots of factorys were located near the square and some of those building are still here. Today the square is surrounded by shops, food stores, restaurants and bars. Today Möllan is a great beer garden in the summer and has a lively nightlife all year around. It was also in this area the movement of working people started. The statue on the square “Arbetets ära” shows a group of people holding up a stone. The symbolic is that common work keeps the society alive. From a working class area Möllan has become an area of subcultures. It is lively, warm and colorful. If any spot should be called the heart of Malmö, this is it.

Me and a friend made a visit to Nimis in march this year. We followed the hidden signs which along the way changed to warning signs of how Nimis is climbed at our own risk. I remember thinking of how this construction or art? was Lars Vilks revenge on the sea after almost drowning. I am not sure on how he revenged the sea with his creation but it is fascinating to look at and exciting to climb. I like the idea of it being an answer to the trend in art in the 80´s where nothing were considered constantly. The history of Nimis is a long legal process and the future is unclear. Will it be constantly?

Emporias green roof is hugh with its 27 000 square meters and more of those would be to prefer. For instance the roof of our new school Niagara. But I would also like to see more green roofs in all sizes and places to visually aware people of a part of the goal for the sustainable city. More green roofs for Malmö.
